How did that change your life?

MacBook Air and iPhone. Both have made me so much more productive, it's insane.

Zojirushi rice cooker, my first foray into cooking, ever. A gateway drug, if you will.

CHI_Air_Expert_Slim_Tourmaline_Ceramic_Flat_Iron_Onyx_Black.jpg

CHI Flat Iron, a stylist's best friend. Heat protectant is a must!

dove-antiperspirant-sensitive-en.jpg

No joke. This is the only deodorant that hasn't made me feel itchy and gross, plus it's an amazing antiperspirant to boot. My world ends the day this is discontinued.

I'll be living on my own soon, but I'll try to hold back on the fancy purchases until I've settled into a place for a couple years. I'll need help suppressing the interior decorator in me :-p

iPhone 3GS. Revolutionized my productivity and life overall really. It's pretty dramatic how much a smartphone can change the way you live your life.

Xbox 360. Great investment that has rewarded me time and time again with what it has to offer. Even though it RRoD'd once.

Flexible ruler. Long gone are the days of wooden planks used to measure things.

My 22" monitor. Old, power consuming, can double as a personal heater, but so good.

Schimmel 120 upright piano. $14,000 USD, worth every red cent. It's worth more than my car and if I sold it I would double my bank account, but that will never happen.

If you get a duvet and duvet cover, you can ditch the top sheet if you want and only use the fitted sheet that covers your mattress. Unless I am mistaken, this style of bedding is more popular in European nations.

I have always thought that everyone in the western world was already doing this. Mind you, I have never been outside norhern or central Europe, so what do I know...

I used to think my old Roomba 560 was pretty nifty, but after getting a iClebo with a decent Li-ion battery I realized how shitty it was :) Of course my iClebo is far from perfect, but at least it is powerful enough to do some real cleaning. I also have an Samsung navibot doing upstairs cleaning, but it's not very good either. Maybe the new models are better, mine doesn't have a Li-ion battery yet.

It feels silly to say, but my iPod and iPhone have really improved my quality of life. They've actually made a big difference for me socially, recreationally, creatively, academically, professionally, even medically.

My newest car. It feels great to finally drive something I don't have to be scared will fall apart within the year. I'd also say my first (and current) smartphone and my new PC.

And while this isn't a single purchase, the 1000$ I spent on my birthday trip to Vegas (paid for myself and the girlfriend) really made me realize how nice it is to not have to worry about every dollar spent. It was the first time I didn't have to sit and worry over if getting the chicken or steak would make the difference in whether I could pay for the movie and if so whether that'd leave me enough for a late night snack or would I have to wait till tomorrow's lunch etc etc. If she said she was hungry, we'd grab a bite. If I wanted a souvenir, I'd buy it. If we were tired from walking the strip, we'd taxi back to the hotel. And all the while without me worrying about the money and just having a good time. Really made me want to push myself to find better job opportunities and leave my comfort zone in search of the good life.

50" Pioneer Kuro plasma. Bought it 4 years ago and it still blows away every TV I've ever seen, outside of the Elite. I absolutely love it. I've spent so much time/money on shitty TVs that I finally did some research and decided to spend the money on something I'm going to enjoy.

The day it dies is when I do, a little inside at least.

Wow. Almost word for word exactly what I was gonna say.

My Linhof Technika III. I literally could not live without this, so satisfying.

My Thorens TD-135MkII

The warmth and timber is irreplicable and I can't listen to music any other way.

And finally, my Gillette 195 Adjustable Fatboy

You don't know how earth shattering a shave can be till you buy this.

Can't really think of anything that I've bought that has really changed my life per se, but I've gotten immense enjoyment out of buying:

-Honda Prelude '94 VTiR, my previous car. Sold it because I moved to a different country. Looking forward to picking up an Accord Type-R soon.

-Kawasaki KLX650 '95. Loved to ride this one, and really miss it. Had to sell it due to moving to another country...again. Will be picking up a Honda FMX650 for a playbike and a SuperDuke or a TDM for larger distances.

-Demons Souls and Dark Souls. Only games that have truly justified being a gamer since Metroid Prime for me.

-LG 42" LCD TV. It's not even Full-HD, and I love it. Even after 2 years, I still marvel at how large and enjoyable it is. (was the first TV I bought for myself, and had been using my laptop screen for movies for around 4 years before that).

Also, honest question: could the people who claim that smartphones/laptops changed their lives elaborate a bit? I recently upgraded from my ghetto Motorola M3 to a Samsung S2, and aside from a couple of kinda-cool features it hasn't really changed my life or brought me any real happiness. Just genuinely curious how it has improved your life and productivity :)

If you get a duvet and duvet cover, you can ditch the top sheet if you want and only use the fitted sheet that covers your mattress. Unless I am mistaken, this style of bedding is more popular in European nations.

I switched over to this style after staying in some fancy hotels which did the same. In my opinion, it blows away the American style of using a top sheet, blanket (temperature permitting), and comforter.

Mind blown. American people do not sleep under a duvet? I sometimes come across the top sheet + blanket configuration in hotels but I thought that's just something hotels do because a sheet is easier to wash than a duvet cover...

Iphone

Xbox 360 (i made so many friends, real life friends and internet friends thanks to xbox live)

PC and years of buying parts - I'm addicted to the internet so i need my PC to live.

My iPod classic
Even if my jack connector has died, my time with it was so worthwile. Being able to put in my music collection and just use the shuffle option ? Priceless. I'm saving money to buy another one (it's kind of sad there's not other mp3 player that has high capacity except for the iPod classic and Cowon X7).

My two netbooks, a eeePC 701 and a HP bought respectively in my first and third year at university
I was able to become so much better at taking notes. It's really awesome to read notes that are clean, organized, and not a scribbly mess.

My galaxy S2
Being able to go on internet anywhere, read emails, access facebook and twitter, watch HD videos without conversion...awesome.

My HP Touchpad
With the new android release, being hardware-accelerated, it it now a cheap and really decent alternative to your everyday laptop. I can't wait to get and OTG cable and a bluetooth keyboard.

My electrical toothbrush
It's so much better, and you feel so clean.

My Kindle
Being able to have loads of books in such a tiny device for a really low price. It's really worth it.

My DS and PSP
I can't count the number of hours I've played them.

A dish-washing machine
Saving so much time now.

A traditionnal oven
I can now cook a lot more varied things.

Buying this when I was a student:

And then updating to this:

and now this:

Something really clicked when I got that first tablet.

1. Smartphone, I simply love having internet access everywhere. Having the ability to access Facebook, Twitter, news, bus times etc. everywhere is simply amazing and such a good time killer.
2. My DSLR camera. I simply love shooting video with it.

Nothing really. All the important things I have in life don't cost much at all.

I actually have a hard time coming up with stuff to buy with my money... I'll just keep saving until I figure something out :)

Eames chair
Supergun and cave pcbs
KAWS dissected milo set
Neo geo aes

These things made me very happy to own after wanting them for so long

iPhone 4 definitely. I spent a long time hesitating as I didn't use my old dumb phone much beyond texting so couldnÂ’t see the appeal of an expensive phone but it was so much more than I expected.

It allowed me to get WhatsApp which is where the relationship with my soul mate started and flourished.

I owe so much to my iPhone and WhatsApp :)

My projector.

I've been a huge movie fan for 30+ years but nothing at home could replicate the experience, a TV is just a TV, there's no cinematic look or feel to it.

Waited for what seems like forever for projectors to become affordable, then another wait for digital to mature and now for around a grand it's here.

How did that change your life?

When I was still young and poor, one of my goals in life was being able to purchase that particular Rolex (a Sea-Dweller) from self-owned money before I turned 40.

When I actually / finally was able to do so a few years ago, it gave me the comforting change of mind from "have to achieve it" to "check. what's next?"

Dedicated theater room. I put my blood and sweat into it though; the money only got me the equipment.

Painting the room, painting the huge ass screen (176"), running velvet trim to eliminate light bleed, putting acoustic fabric on the ceiling and walls. Building a custom sub system...

...then calibrating it all. No regrets whatsoever (being a movie buff, having something on this level was like a childhood dream come true).

Smartphone
going from a dumbphone to a smartphone costs quite a bit more, but it's really paid for itself several times over I find

Running shoes
Every time I buy a new pair of running shoes I feel reinvigorated to keep running and living a healthy lifestyle. Just

My absolute favorite purchases are my amp:

And my headphones:
cd900st.jpg

Anyone that loves music owes it to themselves to own a nice pair of headphones. Every time I put on my headphones to listen to music it's an absolute thrill, and can turn a bad day into a great one. Being able to hear more in a track puts you so much closer to the music, and the musician.

My projector.

I've been a huge movie fan for 30+ years but nothing at home could replicate the experience, a TV is just a TV, there's no cinematic look or feel to it.

Agreed. The experience is so much more immersive with a projector. I have a great plasma, but i only watch movies and tv shows (like breaking bad, sopranos, wire) on the projector. Also great for gaming and even watching photographs.

I don't usually buy a lot of stuff. I can do without just fine. But a couple of things I've realley enjoyed:

Flannel lined jeans. So awesome if you live in a cold place. It's all I wear now in the winter time.

Four Wheeler.
I enjoy going for rides up in the mountain.

Toyota Tacoma. Awesome. Growing up I used to say I wanted a car that could cross rivers. My dad had an old landcruiser and we used to go places where we had to cross little rivers and streams. Now I can do a little offroading with my truck though there aren't many rivers you can cross around here.

A few things that I'm purchasing in the near future that I hope will make me happy:

A house. It's about time I get a place of my own. I have an offer on a 45 year old house, needs a little work but it's just what I want and in a great location. Fingers crossed!

Bed. Getting a king size bed for my house. I've been sleeping on a twin size bed for 7 years now. Not good for 6'4" guy.

Flat screen HD TV. It will my first HD TV. I'm thinking Panasonic Plasma. It should be great.

$500 plane ticket so a friend I met online could come see me, letting her know that I had no intentions of ever having an "online girlfriend" and that I thought it was pathetic and that our relationship was going to be purely platonic.

Which led to 5 days of sex. Then a year of long distance relationships. Then an unplanned pregnancy. Now a three year old who's screaming at me to "stop pushing computer buttons and play Bloos Kwoos" and me wishing that online friend (aka my wife now) would wake up and come out here so I can fucking type on NeoGAF...
