When should we expect the next GTA (V?) announcement?

New GTA should be based in Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, post soviet atmosphere, fucked up cars and some super crazy violence....

this sounds like a cool setting...or maybe an asian setting done blade runner style

the next gta might not even be on current gen consoles...maybe it will be a launch title for next gen consoles...announced 2010 and ships 2011

You won't hear a thing about a new GTA until the DLC comes to the PS3 and is milked for all it's worth. Then Agent. Then the new GTA.

In my younger years... playing 3 with my mouth agape at the amazing .. then Vice City cock-punching me into the awesomesphere only to crash land on planet-win San Andreas... i always imagined that they would repeat the cycle and simply step up their game in every sense of the word.. so ..

Liberty City becomes a new york perfection. Sprawl, tons of land all over, more serious tone, engine refined to high brilliance ... gunfighting refined (i thought) .. all the basics made new.

Vice City (or wherever they decide to go next) will be where they get their storytelling up to next gen standards (as i will admit GTA4 had a somewhat weak one) ... Turn up the effects... show us what happens when you take this new beautiful engine and apply it to a city that isn't all grey and urban .. but neon and and gorgeous... i'm thinking Miami (natch..), New Orleans.. . maybe atlantic city?

Then the SA final masterpiece ..(if it makes it this gen)... a true entire state. Possibly more than 3 cities... with many many more small towns... dense wood areas.. open star filled skies ... 10 minute plane flights from one end of the map to the other ... streaming tech to make this all possible... blue ray filled... ect. ect. ...

of course i'm sure it's just gonna be dlc until 2012 and thats that. In which case i'm hoping that Agent truly is something special .. and actually blows my mind open again like GTA3 did all those years ago.

Last gen, we got 4 Final Fantasy games - what's your point? Is their DLC failing to deliver for them? Seems to work just fine and doesn't require the same level of commitment, allowing them to potentially work on other things while cashing in for a while.

I predict you're right. At the very most though, we'll see another GTA - and that will not be anytime soon.

So...we have 4 Final Fantasy games announced this gen, but only one GTA announced. So it's a little surprising that we haven't heard anything about another one.

What I've always wanted Rockstar to do is, as I'm sure they're following the LC -> VC -> SA pattern again, do whatever they want with the next Vice City game (GTAV?), but make sure they put out the next San Andreas one (GTAVI?) on the next generation of consoles. Blu-ray + huge hard drives guaranteed, better graphics, better technology overall, with the entire state of San Andreas fully fleshed out as it was meant to be. I don't want them to do it on the 360 and PS3.

I think there's a good chance we'll hear about it next E3, for release that either late '10 or early '11. I hope they go back to Vice City for the next one, I really loved the atmosphere they gave it.

Well, then you'll probably be waiting a good 5 years for that.

It doesn't make sense for a series as popular as GTA to release near the launch of a console, as it has much more to gain from releasing after there's a large install base to buy it.

I think we'll still see 2 more full GTA's come out during this hardware cycle -- hopefully starting next fall.

I don't see it happening this generation. More episodic content in the city they created. Its the most economical way to spend there time while another team is working on future tech and ideas.

I'd like to see them abandon GTA. They've milked the franchise to death. Vice City and SA were great, but they were mainly great in story and atmosphere. The actual gameplay is just the same crap over and over again--SA had some cool features, but the core gameplay was just the same stuff.

I'd like to see them devote all their resources to Agent. GTA should take a rest.
