Where are the Street Fighter spin-offs?

That's not an evolution of the genre. Guardian Heroes did it in 1996. There hasn't been any advancement since then. Really, GH made pretty much every other beat 'em up look like a joke.

It didn't scroll on a psuedo 3D plane, though.

It used multiple 2D planes.

That's not really the same as a Beat 'em Up.

The spacial dynamic is a major thing.

You can make a solid argument for defining a beat 'em up like that, but I think GH still falls within the genre.

The only reason they're iconic is because SF2 happens to be one of the best games ever made with one of the largest leaps in art design in gaming. Just look at other 1991 games. The quality of the art, animation, and style were a solid 2 years ahead of the competition. Look at how long it took SNK to catch up (their early fighting games were complete dog shit). Doesn't hurt that SF2 also has some of the best music ever put in a video game. It's as simple as that.

I would argue that Fatal Fury Special is better than any version of SF2 and it came in 1993.

I agree to disagree. GH has nothing on Capcom's AvP. Then there is Return of Double Dragon, Golden Axe III and Bare Knuckle III in terms of gameplay system.

I agree.

Except with Bare Knuckle 3.

I really disliked the stages.

Streets of Rage 2 with 3s mechanics, though? Beautiful.

That exists and it's glorious.

I know.

I referenced it earlier.

It would almost be perfect (5.0a at any rate), except for the Third Path option being required for the True Ending, and its being clogged with absolute bollocks loads of stage hazards.

The First Path is an absolute blast, and tied with SNES TMNT Turtles in Time for my GoAT Beat 'em Up.

Cannon Spike was a shmup of sorts that featured Cammy and Nash IIRC, but yeah, no SF Mythologies really is there.

Imagine, if you will:

A Street Fighter Beat 'em Up, done proper-like, on a psuedo 3D plane, with GG Xrd 3D sprites, to facilitate 3D hit detection nuance on said psuedo 3D plane, with an MVC1 layout of the four face buttons for attacks, and the R and L buttons being interchangeable for wherever one wants to set Jump, Special, etc.

It would be... glorious.
