Where's the Platinum Games love?

There is no love when W101 is looking to bomb hard and Bayonetta 2 might struggle to break even.

So, you are telling me that if a game doesn't sell gazillions copies there is no reason to love it? Hmmm... Interesting.

On topic: Bayonetta 2 is my favourite game of this E3, hands down. Will buy TW101 day one next August. But, yeah... With games media would show them some more love...

Is this still a thing, that people blame p* that no one beside Nintendo ask them to make games for them? Also 400€? Wii U premium is around 250€ here. If it was PS4 exclusive would you have said the same?

Sure I wouldn't have complained, and it would have been logical since Bayo1 sold the most on PS3. But that didn't happen and it can't be helped. In French retailers WiiU is still at 349€.

Well then they have a simple decision to make: is Bayo 2, for them, worth the cost of the game + the brick?

Yes, it essentially comes to this. I'd love to play Bayonetta 2 and X at launch, but the maximum consumer value I put into the whole package is around 250€ (so approximately 150€ for the brick). I bought a Wii just for Xenoblade but the brick cost me only 70€ back then.

in a few years the Wii U will be available for cheaper and there will probably be some other titles that are worth picking up along side bayo2. Not everything needs to be played first week of release.

It's interesting when people say Bayonetta won't find an audience on the Wii U because if there was a satisfactory audience on the other consoles it wouldn't be where it is now. Maybe it'll fare better this time around. Fingers crossed.

Halo 5, 60fps, dedicated servers

They gon get me eventually

Man dem "megatons" they were droppin at E3 had me feeling like a sinner in church.

Killer Instinct
TitanFall
Dead Rising 3 (yes DR3)
If they regain exclusivity for Lost Planet and Capcom drops an in-house Lost Planet 4......
They can have the money. ALL OF IT.

I like the way you think.

I honestly doubt that Bayo 2 and W101 will stay exclusive forever.
One is funded by Nintendo and would not exist otherwise, the other is a Nintendo IP. I don't know how many times this needs to be said.

Platinum's games also have a relatively small audience, thus have a hard time competing for shelf space, which increases the importance of digital sales, where Nintendo has always been way behind.

Nintendo is much more likely to promote and advertise this game than Sega ever would or could. And Nintendo has been doing just fine with digital sales. See the recent news about Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing and how well they're performing digitally. This game will be available on the eShop the same day it hits stores.

I cant get excited for games on a platform ill never own. So as much as I love PG Im not very interested in what their showing right now. Same as Capy, and Insomniac.

Probably will be launched midnight on the eShop like all the recent big titles. :D

I know GAF loves Platinum in general. Wondering where the love is now that they showed off two gloriously awesome Wii U games at E3 that totally outshone the efforts from Nintendo. Have not seen nearly enough praise for these games yet out of E3...
They're on wii u. I mean I'm super happy they're getting work, but... they're on wii u.

Well that one is a Nintendo IP pretty much guarantees that. I didn't feel like I had to say that specifically :p

Ah yeah, I re-read your post, of course. I was a bit confused about who owns TW101, since the copyright says "Nintendo/Platinum Games", anyway I'm sleepy...

Bayonetta sold over a million copies, but that wasnt good enough for Sega to fund a sequel. Those are solid numbers for a new ip in the action genre. If Sega analysis thought it was going to sell 4 or 5 million copies, they need to be fired. Even an established franchise like Devil May Cry sold less than 3 million with Devil May Cry 4. I wish nothing but the best for PG, they deserve it.

I have serious doubts Bayonetta 2 is going to sell over a million unless it goes multi platform, it will have legs though as the price of the WiiU crashes. As much as I love action hack and slash games, they have a very niche market and the genre doesnt produce the sales numbers as other genres like fps. I dont think Bayonetta 2 is going to cost anywhere near what it costs to make a triple a game, but it will be tough for them to make a lot of money on the game until their install base gets much higher or it goes multi platform and I have doubts that it ever will.

The Wonderful 101 is my most anticipated game. The gameplay looks fantastic. Graphics are nice but I want to see evolutions in gameplay too, which is where Kamiya is going with the gameplay and multiplayer features. 5 player is going to be so much fun.

How can you love a studio that asks you 400€ to play a sequel?

I don't blame them. I just have mixed feelings towards them at seeing this game go away from me, not to mention the fact they haven't announced anything for PS4/X1.

BAYO 2 WOULD NOT EXIST without Nintendo. You have NO REASON to like Platinum Games ANY LESS because this game is being put on Wii U.

The game would never have gone to you in the first place! Stop talking about how this changes your feelings towards P*. They announce games when they get hired for work. Nintendo hired them first. Hate Nintendo!

The thing with Bayonetta 2 is that it's exclusive to a platform that few care about, when the first game was multiplatform. If it was multiplatform on PS3/360/Wii U then there would have been no backlash. I can't see Bayonetta 2 selling more than the first one, that's insane. The blame should fall squarely with SEGA, a company that its best days are firmly behind it.

I like the games I've played from Platinum; Bayonetta, Vanquish and MGR. I only paid £5 for Bayonetta (PS3 version so it deserves no more), got Vanquish with PS+ and got MGR for free.

So the blame should lie with Sega(who paid for 3 games from P*) as opposed to someone who has only paid £5 to play 3 games(& people wonder why some companies have a low regard for gamers).

Xenoblade was top notch, but that is a rare 3rd party iirc and one out of hundred of games on the Wii. If I dont like playing first party Nintendo games, it is a bad decision to buy a Nintendo console imo.

Xenoblade is a Nintendo game. As Nintendo as they get. People are confused about what a Nintendo game is.

If you have a problem with the output of certain types of games, then simply wait until you see enough games on the platform until that number makes your console investment worthwhile. Many people already do this without crying so much.

Though the tears are delicious.

Blame SEGA, lol, okay. Sega has publsihed many P* games. Now you expect them to start making all games willy nilly for you without regard to their own business decisions? Or are you saying you'd rather Sega refuse Nintendo their current financial arrange for make Bayonetta 2 AT ALL?

PlatinumGames is not $60 loved and appreciated. :(

I have seen plenty of people on GAF think that Fire Emblem is a third party game, so believe me this is nothing. To many people, Nintendo are nothing more than Hyrule and Mushroom Kingdom.

.

Well we now have Sonic on every system under the sun, Resident Evil 4 ended up everywhere and I'm sure there's plenty other examples of games that once seemed to be set in stone as exclusives popping up everywhere.

I personally don't give a shit. I got my Wii U, I'm gonna get these games and enjoy them. But I won't be surprised when ports (especially of Bayo 2) get announced.

Almost a year after of the Bayonetta 2 announcement and we still have to make this statement bold in hope people will finally understand.

Life is such a beautiful place when you don't have to stick with only one console manufacturer. Specially when this decision is not related to money or lack of it.

I don't think exclusive deals are the same as funding the entire project and owning the IP in TW101's case.

Sonic is a Sega's IP so they can put them on whatever console/device they want.

Some people at CAPCOM were actually unhappy that the investors forced them to port over the Capcom 5 games. IIRC, some of those people are at P* right now. Even still, CAPCOM still LIKES Nintendo and tries to do business without whenever possible.

Funny you should mention Sonic...

This thread really illustrates a lot of the challenges Nintendo faces.

Speaking of business I would've loved that Zack and Wiki 2 announcement. It's the only quality game Capcom has for me now.

That was one big mess lol. Annoucing a exclusive GC game for the PS2 was fucked up already, but they had to announce it BEFORE the GC version was released. They sure like to sabotage their own sales and fuckup their deal with Nintendo.

Not sure what you're saying. I don't understand your point about Sonic. Who was Sonic exclusive to? Sega?

And Resident Evil 4 wasn't a Nintendo funded game so again, not sure what your point was there either.

As Kamiya himself has said, the only people who can make the decision of whether Bayonetta 2 goes to other platforms are the people at Nintendo. Not going to happen.

It's generating something alright.

But what if Nintendo becomes a charitable institution and decides to give away IPs and exclusives and stuff? It might happen. Think about it.

Nintendo might love Bayonetta and you know... If you love something, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were.

rite?

Yeah, totally right. If Nintendo really loved their IP they would make them available to a wider audience instead of holding them hostage. At the very minimum, they should put Pokemon on iOS where we know the real handheld market is.

Believe me I do hate Nintendo from the bottom of my soul. But think about it : Bayo 2 not existing makes me just a little sad, but Bayo 2 existing and out of reach is some giant frustration.

Well blame Nintendo for that frustration instead of dumping it on P*. Seriously, WTF... Stop hating on P*.

My lord.

People whine when a console doesn't have any games they want. People whine when a console has games they want.

People whine when it's hot. People whine when it's cold. People just like to whine, especially gamers. The best game of its kind is, against all odds, getting a sequel, and gamers are complaining about it. It's absolutely pathetic.

If the laughing emoticon was still on gaf I would have been banned for spamming it in this thread. Some of the replies in here......
