Where's the Platinum Games love?

Platinum is loved around here. Problem is they are throwing their weight at a machine most here don't have or want to.

Platinum goes where the work pays. I don't see Sony or Microsoft commissioning them for exclusives and Sega is in no shape to publish new ips nowadays.

Or they may not be interesting to me? I don't know, this doesn't seem like a huge revelation to me or anything.

It isn't, although there are plenty of different kinds of games for the system. You might find one or two you like but don't know about yet. I'm sure you would find more than these 2.

I'm one of the average guys on GAF hyped over X and the new Smash though, so don't take my word for it.

Typically games should make people want a machine that plays games.

I wasn't criticizing them. But it is one of the reasons why they fly under the radar as of right now, since not so long ago they were being praised for Metal Gear Rising.

If there is any reason to buy a new system for new games, Platinum would be the reason.

Sure/kinda, platinum doesn't have that much weight. It would take them some real big games for most to consider buying a console just for their games.

I mean I certainly don't consider their two games for the Wii U system sellers at all.

I'm actually hoping Nintendo just outright buys P*, because of this thread. Then I won't have to buy an Xbone or PS4 (if MGSV comes out on PC), and I can bear witness to the flood of salty tears :)

P* don't want to be bought, independence is a good thing.
That said, Nintendo should constantly work with them to the point of a second party developer.

Definitely get it! Especially if you like Zelda at all. The beginning's real slow, but it's a great game. I didn't play the Wii version, but it's supposedly missing a filter and the credits+epilogue scene IIRC, still worth playing though. Did you play God Hand since that was a PS2 exclusive as well?

Damn I totally forgot about God Hand! I got the chance to play it once, I got turned off at first because it was hella unexpected, but I want to give it a try again. It kinda reminds me of a Treasure game, controls first seem overly complex, but when you get used to them, it becomes perfection.

Hence why Treasure and Platinum are my two most loved studios, that imagination and unique approach when it comes to game design.

They got X and Monster Hunter. Those are two good ass reasons to invest, along with the two Platinum titles + Smash 4 which would result in 5, of course the Mario Kart and both 3D and 2D Mario's are necessities so that's 8. If you like Sonic that's 9 if you one of those not since the MegaDrive days guys, then that's 8.

I didn't catch your edit in my first reply:

Not sure what X is. Never a big fan of Monster Hunter or Sonic, though I haven't played a lot of the former. Smash 4 is, admittedly, a good one, but like I mentioned with Nintendo 1st party game, I've waned on it a lot like most of their franchises.

Oh yeah, I'm always willing to keep my ear to ground for stuff that may interest me. I did end up buying a Wii even when I doubted I would, when the price got low enough.

Not sure what X is.

Xenoblade is a Nintendo game. As Nintendo as they get. People are confused about what a Nintendo game is.

If you have a problem with the output of certain types of games, then simply wait until you see enough games on the platform until that number makes your console investment worthwhile. Many people already do this without crying so much.

Though the tears are delicious.
I know it was made by Monolith Soft and wasnt sure if Nintendo own them or not. They were not always owned by Nintendo and my memory is rubbish hence iirc. If you bothered to read the post instead of skimming it, I said I dont buy consoles for 1 or 2 games. I buy them based on past games released, games coming out soon and for future titles. I wait to see the kinds of games coming out on a console and if I like them, before buying the console. Im not confused about what a Nintendo games is, I just dont know every studio owned by them nor do I know every studio owned by Sony either for that matter. The only studio I know for sure is Nintendo first party is EAD. Not sure how you get crying from being mistaken about 1 studio and not liking any game on the Wii save Xenoblade, guess you are just looking to upset people.

P* flies under the radar since the Capcom games, platform won't change this. Even after several praises for Bayonetta 1 (10/10 edge) not many bought their games on PS360. I'd say you had your chance.

I may sound like a Wii U zealot but I'm a p* one ;)

This is, unfortunately, probably true.

So long as Platinum games gets work, I'm happy. Nintendo is supporting them, and hopefully they continue to do so. The partnership could be very lucrative for both parties. Platinum gets to make what they want, and Nintendo gets killer exclusives.

Sega didn't exactly market those games well. I picked up both Bayonetta and Vanquish for $20 each on a whim after lots of praise online. If i didn't frequent sites like GAF or GameFAQs, I would have had no idea what these games were about or if they even existed.

MGR sold well not just due to the brand name but because Konami actually advertised it.

Has any Platinum Games title ever been a system seller though? As much GAF loves them, their games aren't as universally loved by the mainstream.

I think they're at best mediocre considering what they delivered under "platinum games". Madworld was decent, bayo was allright, vanquish pretty good and anarchy reigns a joke.
It's a shame rising could lift on the mgs legacy because it was quite disappointing too.

I really can't be excited for their upcoming games, although I am quite a big mikami fan.
Kamiya was also involved in several of my favourite games.

I just don't get that special feeling playing those platinum games compared to many many other developers out there.

And I really want to enjoy them but it's just not happening at the moment despite their heritage in the gaming industry. :(

Platinum games lost me when they decided to go corporate and take a handout from Nintendo and go WiiU.

The need to put themselves in better position when it comes to publishers. The mistake of letting Sega handle the Ps3 port, and now this. . I guess when you are a small studio, you do what it takes to pay the bills. I will forgive all the previous mistakes though if Bayo 2 ends up on PC/PS4. As for PG not getting any love. I love Bayo 2 so much it hurts everytime I think about it being a Wii U exclusive. Every screenshot, every video, just adds to the pain.

you realize that the ONLY reason Bayonetta 2 is happening is because Nintendo financed it when Sega was going to let it die right?

but of course, they should have just not done it right! I do that all the time, people come around and offer me money for work and I'm like, "NAH, I don't want to 'go corporate.'"

for fuck's sake...

I like 'em. Quirky dev. I'm interested to see what their next Nintendo project will be after Bayo 2 and TW101, which are both highly anticipated by myself.

LOL. Nintendo is helping to finance the game.

So get a Wii U. Or just get over it. Either one.

Right now, I'm not interested in getting a Wii U. However, if Nintendo keeps supporting Platinum like this and Platinum continues releasing their games on the Wii U, I'm interested. I'm just reluctant at the moment, since the Wii U library isn't as attractive to me, so I'll have a lot of time to wait between now and 2014. Bayo 2 and W101 look sick as well, good job, P*.

EA did the same when they showed they didn't like competition, because it would cause them to work, I guess? It's why I haven't purchased an NFL game since ESPN NFL 2K5.

The difference I see between that, and this, is that EA was actively trying to stop competition so they could take the lazy road.

I haven't played the original Bayonetta, don't plan on picking this one up either, but I do think there is a difference and not sure that Platinum is really at blame here.

Didn't Sega publish the first one (don't know), and if so, Nintendo's current relationship with Sega makes me think that Sega is perhaps going to Nintendo with their franchises/games they have published first, and seeing if Nintendo is interested?
