I know this isn't quite what you are asking, but I'm going to say Australia.
Australia's migrant population has led to a huge range of cuisines that are all to a large extent better than the places from where they came, primarily because of the quality of the ingredients. It is not even a matter of my Western palate, as this is something said by my friends who come from these places.
The Turkish food in Auburn is better than Turkish food in Turkey.
Viet food in Cabra is better than that in Vietnam etc.
Only thing letting Australia down is bad barbecue and a smaller range of fast food venues, apart from that, the food here is the best in the world.
If we are talking cuisine, then I'd have to say Uighar food is the best, though not what people eat in Uighuristan unfortunately (meat is too bad quality). The spices and diversity of the food is amazing.

I think we (the Turks) have claimed it, it's called Turkish pizza in the west afterall. But Sarma is certainly Turkish... means wrapped in Turkish. Never knew the Armenians were claiming it, they could have atleast change the name. Oh well whatever... it all orginates from the Ottoman Empire anyway.

There is just so much back and forth culinary sharing between Turkey and the Arab world, that is is pretty much a wash as to who did what first.

I'm aware of the origin, but I'd argue not only has the US has taken ownership of the burger, but it does it significantly better than Germany.
I'm sure some people make that argument for pizza as well, but I'm not in a position to comment on that having not been to Italy.
Da fuq? Korean food is awesome and apparently vastly underappreciated. Not big myself on pickled vegetables but everything else is great.

Man, everywhere has great food. Gotta list the favorites!
1. Indian - curry meat and naan is a nearly unbeatable combo.
2. Japanese - ODEN, hitsumabushi (eel), misosaba, kaisendon... the list goes on.
3. West Indian/Caribbean - pigeon pea soup, salt fish and dumplings, goat or chicken roti, the best fruit in the world =p forget strawberries, apples, peaches, etc.
4. Thai - coconut or peanut flavored goodness =o

i ate so much of that when I was in Thailand, so good but so greasy. it was usually like $1.50 to $2 at the street stands, or $2 to $3 in the cheaper restaurants.

There is this Thai place near my house that has just the most amazing Pad See Ew. Mouth watering right now.
No love for Persian food? So many great dishes.
Love Middle Eastern/Persian/Turkish food. Some of the best grills you can get. One of my fave dishes is Incik, lamb shank slow cooked and served with a sauce, rice/mash and salad.
man, that blows my mind. i wish there were places in london like that; i'm sick of having to choose between pie & mash or jellied eels every night.

Probably a tie between Thai, Korean and Spanish.

And it's damn hard to beat well made tapas.

Im actually not from there, but a good friend of the family is and she learnt how to do all these awesome dishes. There's also a chain of Armenian restaurants with Armenian chefs that sell all kinds of goodies. Ive been eating Lehmeyun since I was a kid and I always loved it.
