the only advantage sonic has
I think this is the key for me. Mario music always sounds like "Mario music" -- at least until very recently. Sonic music goes all over the place. Both series have consistently great music, but Sonic has a much wider variety than Mario. Chances are that, with knowledge of all that both series have to offer, one would find Sonic's offerings more interesting, ambitious, and catering to a certain genre or sound one prefers. That being said, it's been nice seeing the Mario series stretch its legs a bit with Galaxy, 3D World, and Mario Kart 8.
For me though, it's Sonic all day. Sega's sound team (and its collaborators) has always been such a ridiculous musical force. Even when things look grim on the game development end, it's hard to catch em slouching.
Does Bob-Omb Battlefield tell you you can't do anything
so don't even try
and to get some help
and not to do what Sonic does
S-S-SONIC D-D-D-EAD OR A-A-ALIVE IS M-M-MINE
No Sonic Riders love?
Dive into Gravity
Aquatic Time
Gadget Round
Hell, even the main menu!
Edit: I forgot Un-Gravitify
Man, I love Zero Gravity's soundtrack. Its main theme is my favorite Sonic theme.
They're memorable because they're repeated and remixed in every Mario-related game.Übermatik;212501106 said:Mario. Obviously. So many more MEMORABLE tunes, and with the help of Galaxy, some genuine orchestral mastery too.
I'm a Nintendo kid, but shit, the music from the first 4 Sonic games dominates over the entire Mario library.

Can't hold on much longer.
BUT I WILL NEVER LET GO
2D games? Sonic.
3D games? Mario.
Free Riders was completely forgettable as a game, but it at least had Metropolis Speedway going for it.
I tried giving that game 3 shots. Fucking Kinect ruined that spin off series.
I don't care if the shit technically isn't even out yet, I fuck with Studiopolis Zone
Kinect ruined a lot of things.
Kinect was a mistake, nothing but trash
You should listen to Sonic Rush's soundtrack of you haven't, very catchy. By the same person who did Jet Set Radio's music.Holy shit, how have I never heard this before. This is dope.
Depends on the game. Sonic 3 had amazing music, but nothing I've heard in a Sonic game since has been any good, or just outright terrible like the buttrock in the first two Wii games.
Mario has its low points like the NSMB series, but then there's Super Mario Galaxy..
Sonic Mania might break the decades long trend of awful Sonic music though.
All of Sonic's lyrical songs are garbage, I don't know what people see in them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55rtX4wCJPMMichael Jackson's involvement tips the scales on this one.
Off the catchy music, I just remembered Sonic 3d Blast's Saturn OST, on mobile so I'll only post one song, but that soundtrack Is great.
