Which Games Have Just BORED You to DEATH?

There are a lot of games that I have played at least a little bit of and not liked. Metroid Prime. Far Cry 2. Freespace 2. Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury. Dead Space. Lost Odyssey. Retro Game Challenge. Assassin's Creed 2. Fallout 3. Secret of Mana. Many, many others.

Radiant Historia. Every battle was long and drawn out. Story was uninspiring. Blah blah blah...

Damn you just reminded me of this one. Maybe I was playing it wrong or something, but having to endure the same dialogue scenes over and over again wasn't my idea of fun. Got tired of it really quickly.

Really, after 3 or 4 hours of gameplay, something grabbed me. I honestly wanted to see what happened next, since the story wasn't to predictable.
I honestly went through the intro and up to Mislato River (ch 3) three times. :lol

I bought Tierkreis, and sat down with it for a few hours. I was waiting until I got into the mindset that I had to keep playing like other Suikoden games have done for me. It didn't happen. I played a few more hours to see if I'd like it more, but it didn't really happen. I put it down for a few weeks until after my finals, picked it up again, and couldn't remember what I was doing.

So I started over. Same issues, though I got up to El-Qaral (ch 3) this time. I said to myself, perhaps I'll play it when my expectations and hype decreases a bit.

I started over around August of the same year after it came out, and I still ran into the same problems, but I stuck with it. I'm a person who finishes games even though I don't really feel attached to them. I've played through and beaten Beyond the Beyond twice, even though I didn't like it much. So I guess the act of forcing myself through it ended up making the game a little boring for me (at times).

I should give it another try sometime. Maybe when I do a full Suikoden series runthrough when I have the time to do it, I'll make sure to enjoy Tierkreis for what it is. Its gameplay isn't bad at all. :)

Did you try pressing Start or holding X during those scenes, out of curiosity?
You can skip those dialogue scenes by doing so! :P But it's cool if you didn't like the game. I have no issues with that.

I could never get into Super Mario Galaxy 2. I enjoyed the first one but even with the Yoshi sections, SMG2 feels like more of the same and I can't be fucked to continue it. I'll probably do so someday. I had a lot more fun with DKC Returns.

Couldn't get through Killzone 2's campaign either. Ended up trading it in because I didn't have anyone to play MP with. The campaign just felt like moving from kill box to kill box and I hated it.

Dead Rising 1 and 2: Not my cup of tea I guess. The novelty wore off rather quickly.

Assassin's Creed 1: Peaked early and then just got incredibly boring. Assassin's Creed 2, on the other hand, I absolutely loved.

Bioshock: This game started off well and then just lost its magic towards the end game. I had zero desire to replay it to get the alternate ending and ended up trading it in.

If you're giving up after 30 minutes, then you aren't really getting to see what's really special about them, unfortunately.

A game that is so slow to interest you even after 30 minutes is a terribly designed game. I'm not saying they should make it ADHD style, but you get what I mean.

Wow @ the Suikoden replies. :lol

As for the Suikoden IV reply...

I didn't think it was as bad as a lot of people made it out to be. Sure, it's a weak Suikoden entry, but it isn't terrible. Just mediocre in comparison to the other games. But I will concede that world map travel was boring. Of course, I might be positively biased towards the series in general! [insert avatar quote here].

i agree with this post. i could start IV today and continue with suiko tactics for the full experience, no problem. but if you asked me to replay tierkreis, i'd politely decline. especially tactics......that game is pretty good actually.

the rest of the suikoden games are on the same level for me. flawless masterpieces.

Probably did, but don't remember haha. I hear nothing but good things about the game and am a huge RPG fan, so I'll probably give it another chance one of these days. Right now I'm working on my massive PS1/PS2 backlog consisting of BoFIII, Xenogears, Persona 4, DDS 1/2 and a few others that I highly doubt I'll complete before the summer is over.

I tried to play Xenogears...

I did...

I saw the in-game clock when I finally left the starting village, and it had been 45 minutes.

I stopped. Just... so fucking bored out of my mind.

Definitely Xenosaga. I pop it in once a year to give it another chance and every single time without fail, I can't make it past the first few minutes. It just makes me... tired.

Final Fantasy XIII
FEAR
Baldur's Gate II
Gears of War 2
Dead Space (Kinda sorta, I haven't really decided on this one yet)

Can't think of anymore right now.

The most boring game I have. Started it three times but can't force myself to play it.
Definitely this. I did beat it but it's the first game i ever sold back to Amazon. Game was just dreadful, I really wanted to like it because I love westerns and Sergio Leone stuff but Rockstar's GTA4-like formula ruins this games potential imo. I actually liked GTA4 as well but at least GTA4 had some good characters, a nice world to explore and great car physics. Red Dead is like GTA4 but without any of that. At least Red Dead's visuals and atmosphere are great though, i'd buy a cheap PC version on Steam to see the game maxed out.

Within the last three months, I would have to name God of War 1, which I had played before but only recently set my mind to finishing. Fighting neverending waves of the same half-dozen respawning enemies is no fun, and neither were the braindead yet tedious puzzles. Some nice art design, though. I'll also say Tales of Vesperia. Quite enjoyable through the first 1/3 of the game until the narrative lost its focus and t game settled into a rote routine of dungeon-town-dungon-town repeated ad nauseum. The battle system also lost its luster very quickly.

Most RPGs have pretty boring intros. You shouldn't go into an RPG expecting to see the best of what it has to offer in 30 minutes.

This is actually a pretty good answer. I like the game, but I've never finished it. That might have more to do with the fact that you have to take notes and such to progress much without using a guide, but I still appreciate Myst (as well as at least Riven) for its place in gaming history.

And...

This does apply to many RPGs, but I just want to re-emphasize it for the people who mentioned WoW (also applies to other MMOs). I can get why it wouldn't draw people in during the leveling experience, but the endgame is different and if you haven't gotten there then you can't know what a large portion of the game is like. (And leveling becomes a relatively small portion of time played if you do hit the level cap and get drawn into the endgame.) Raiding has been my favorite part of WoW when I have played and it can really only be experienced at level cap.

Speaking of Suikoden III, I wouldn't say it's bad but I do have major annoyances:

-
Every character with a portrait except for Leknaat and Lulu becomes a part of the 108 Stars of Destiny. Personally, I though they ran out of ideas and forced every character to be part of the 108 stars, including the villains.
- No world map and not enough locations. I can get past with the no world map but it could have been better if there were more locations.
- Each time you choose the next story (Geddoe, Hugo, Chris, probably Thomas), you have to retread the story in their point of view. Kinda like FFIV: After Years. It's not bad but it gets tiresome. This probably made the entire game long (assuming 10 hours per character, that makes it 40 hours). If you actually do it in one point of view, you can complete the game in around 25-35 hours, with the 108 Stars.

But still, Suikoden IV's world map bored that shit out of me. I'd give Suikoden III a tinge higher than Suikoden IV, but GS 1, 2, and 5 leave them to dust.

Some recent ones that come to mind:

Resistance: Fall of Man
Homefront
Star Wars The Force Unleashed II
Socom 4

The original Force Unleashed was really good, and I had high expectations for the second one, but it let me down in the storyline and pacing department.

Socom 4's single player story was boring for me, I just found myself trying to finish the level as fast as I could. Maybe it was because of the stupid A.I. squad, or not feeling any connection to the main characters. The Co-Op is fun though, so I am at least enjoying that.

As for Homefront and Resistance, I just couldn't get into the game. I plan on giving Resistance 2 a try soon to see if I can get into this series before part 3 comes out.

At this point I know my tastes pretty well, so I usually end up liking the games I choose to play. The two most recent exceptions to that I can think of would be Metroid Prime 2 and Gran Turismo 4.

GT4 was a gift. It was my first game of that type and I quickly realized that driving simulators just weren't my thing. I don't especially like driving in real life, so the idea of realistically simulating that experience didn't excite me, and I don't care about cars so the car porn aspect didn't do anything for me. I do enjoy arcade style racers like Wipeout or F-zero, but GT just isn't made for me. No biggie and more power to the people who love it. At the very least, I could appreciate the sheer amount of work that went into it even though I wasn't having fun.

I managed to finish MP2 but I doubt I'll ever work up the desire to play it again. It just didn't feel anywhere near as engaging to me as the other two games in the series. The puzzles were quite good and I liked the creative use of the morph ball, but the art direction felt uninspired (you spend the first 2/3 of the game in a bland desert and a murky swamp) and the difficulty seemed cheap (like the occasional enemies that can turn either invisible or invincible, and especially the space pirates who can turn both invisible AND invincible at the same time- ugh).

The main problem with Suikoden 3 is the dungeons are really poor (Most of them are just walking in a single direction though 5 rooms), their is only 3 bosses that aren't just you fighting characters that later join your party, and the battle system is utterly boring.

Also, the dialog has no audio cue to it, which really bugs me.

Metal Gear Solid 4
The bad cutscenes just never stopped. I liked the 3-armed roll-y ball robots.

FF13
I only played a few hours before realizing I had no idea what was going and the combat was so mind numbing I just couldn't take it anymore. Very pretty, though.

Suikoden III hasn't aged well, and also, there are too many low points in the pacing (though this has been the case with all the Suikoden's I've played). The first Hugo chapter is paaaaainful. I love retreading the storylines, however. Seeing the end of the first Hugo chapter in both his perspective and Chris's perspective is great. I need get back to the game sometime...I started playing a Thomas chapter at one point and got stuck...not going to be doing that again.

As for my answer:

Zelda: Twilight Princess
Resident Evil 4
Xenosaga
The Witcher
Borderlands
Red Dead Redemption
L.A. Noire
Grand Theft Auto IV
Fallout 3
EVE Online

Most of the games above are boring thanks to shitty pacing. EVE is boring simply because it requires too much commitment on my part to be enjoyed, and I don't have enough motivation to put that much into the game.

It's the most uneventful, boring, unmemorable, bland, dead silent, generic, poorly paced RPG I have ever played. I find myself racking my memory for bits and pieces of this game, only to find very little if anything left. That's a hallmark of a bad game.. You just forget it.

Excuse me for preferring a good tactical shooter or a good CRPG rather than a series that does both poorly in an uninspired setting.

Don't get me wrong. I love me a slow churner that pays out in dividends. As proof of this, I will state I loved Ogre Battle 64. Takes forever to really reap the meat out of that bastard.

But game design is game design. You should be able to hook a player in within the first hour, regardless of genre.

Spirit tracks
Mass effect
oblivion
dragon quest 9
phantom hourglass
assassins creed
prince of Persia 08
klonoa
super paper mario

haha please. plenty of great games that are at the complete spectrum of what mass effect offers. mass effect focuses a lot on story, characters, dialogue. I prefer great pure gameplay. I'll take a good platformer, a solid SRPG, or even a fun sandbox game over Mass effect.

Honestly...that one is hard to explain. I've never been able to get much more than a few hours into it. I think a lot of it has to do with the scenery, poor controls, and the need to be so meticulous when going into an area. Too much going around needing to find all the hidden ammo, and the jewelry you can sell. The scenery is just dull and lifeless and ugly (graphically, not from an artistic standpoint). It fits the game perfectly, of course. But overall, I find the game fairly tedious.

I think I liked RE5 a lot more just because of the coop aspect. Even boring games can be quite fun when playing with a friend.

Game got dull halfway through that big castle. That's where I dropped it.

For me the game never got boring because it was so much fun to shoot enemies in different places. One of the first, if not the first game to have specific body shot damage I think. It also had some great action set pieces/boss fights.

There was a point in the game where I realized enemies could no longer hurt me because I had such awesome guns I was basically a badass but it was still pretty tense/scary in some places.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Did you play RE 4 when it first came out or some time after like once hd games were already around?

Edit: I ask because the graphics were amazing at the time, and the game had several innovations/marked changes from past RE titles.

For example the body specific damage, the behind the back view and tight aiming controls. The quick time events, and a few others. The controls are poor by modern standards but at the time they were pretty great.

Double Edit: I see.

It's definitely not the first. Soldier of Fortune, at the very least, did it long before RE4.

Not long after the Wii launch. I'm sure I would have liked it a lot more had I played it upon the Gamecube release.

I don't think anyone here can accurately say that they've been bored to death, or they wouldn't be alive here to talk about it! Ha! :)

Anyway, the first game that would come to mind for me would have to be Persona 3 sadly...I had first tried playing this game when it came out, and I had been told it was great, but I could not get into it at all! When Persona 4 came out, I had little to no interest in it, because of how much I didn't care for Persona 3...fortunately I did give P4 a try, and it is easily one of my favorite games ever made.

I went back to play Persona 3 though, and I actually did play it to completion, but I never once felt satisfied or engrossed in the story at all. The characters aren't nearly as likeable, the story doesn't make as much sense to me, and the combat pissed me off because you couldn't control your party. I just didn't enjoy playing the game at all. It truly was an endurance test, because I felt like there had to be something that would appeal to me since I loved Persona 4 so much. Even the ending disappointed me.

Another vote for Metroid Prime. I usually love games like that but for some reason I just couldn't get into it at all.

I also just beat the first Crysis the other day. Talk about a snoozefest. Game looked fantastic but damn it was just...boring the entire way through.

As much as I like Suikoden (especially what I've played of II), the series is very poorly paced.

I think EVE Online is a fantastic game, but it's just so boring for me to play. I can realize a game to be great while not enjoying it myself. I could throw in other examples, like Europa Universalis or Hearts of Iron.

I don't see the love for Red Steel 2. It was great to prove the tech worked but I really hated the way the game progresses. Go to base, travel to destination, do objective, travel back to base, etc. I would be fine with this if the in between wasn't so boring. The world was so empty.
