Which Games Have Just BORED You to DEATH?

The entire Halo series - I've beat all of them but I can't say I was ever excited while doing so.
Resistance 2 - Lost all the charm of the first one
Oblivion
God of War series - Boring trite with easy puzzles. I've given every single one of them a chance and it's all the same.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
LoZ: Twilight Princess
InFamous
Silent Hill series
Sly Cooper series

Some more I just remembered

One of those very rare games that I not only had to force myself to finish, but just did not give a fuck by the end of it. I used to love CoD, but now the franchise utterly bores me.

I'm hoping BF3 can take me out of the rut of modern warfare/multiplayer FPS.

Most RPGs after I beat them, don't wanna get a platinum or all achievements. GTA 4 after I beat the game, can only joke around for less than and hour before it becomes stale.

Fallout 3

I tried really hard, but it is so boring. I feel nothing when I play this game but pure boredom.

Everything about this game is so unexciting and uninteresting.
The world, story, characters. GAMEPLAY. The gameplay feels so awkward for some reason.
I hate the item management in the game as well.

Off the top of my head:

Dead Space

Skate 3. Skate 2 is one of my favorite games ever but 3 had a totally different feel and had this weird corporate-y design/UI and the city bored me so I stopped playing it. They've already started to go into the Tony Hawk direction and it's a shame.

Half Life 2
Grand Theft Auto IV
Kameo
Ever Final Fantasy game post IX
Plants VS Zombies
Farmville
Resistance 1-2
All Zelda games post-Wind Waker
Halo 2
Dead Space
Shenmue
Infamous

^ really, come on man

For me:

Assassin's Creed 1

Sorry I don't share the exact same opinion as you. I am not saying they are bad games, just ones that bored me so much that I put them down and had no desire to pick them back up.

I was referring specifically to RPG fans (or at least people that claim to be) in the west. It's probably most noticeable among the gaming press, as many of them will complain about JRPGs being shit now because they never change (which isn't true but that's another topic) but treat DQIX, one of the series that have changed the least, as this amazing handheld gem. The primary reason why DQ fans are so dedicated is because the developers don't mess around with the formula too much so it's just a weird dichotomy.\

I think it's about who you're referring to in the press, because there doesn't seem to be any real consensus as to what constitutes change. That, and aside from having only seen so many reviews of Dragon Quest IX out in the open, there doesn't seem to be any denial of its strident traditionalism. If there are two things that the series has done right, and I know I'm repeating myself a little, it's that there have been subtle, interesting changes from time to time, all the while maintaining a consistent modicum of quality. Here's what I love about IX: the synthesis of VIII's skill system with III's class system, with a few twists, as well as the social aspects and longevity granted by the post-game dungeons, and of course, the DQVC online shop. And pretty much every game in the series itself is populated with characters living their own lives, giving their universes their own unique feel. That's something you don't get in most other jRPGs out there. I can perfectly understand a person finding its mechanics boring, but then, millions are still playing Pokemon worldwide, and that series shares a fairly similar core in that department. Heck, that series is even more samey across the board. But of course, people stay for the uber-lv. 100 Poketeam metagame.

In the end, it's all the little differences that count.

Assassin's Creed was pretty funny. Climb 100 towers, kill 500 identical Templar knights, collect 1000 whatevers. Anybody who tolerates this shit to get 100% in games like that must have the patience of a saint.

The funny thing is, I think Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has some pretty awesome boss battles but I'd have to agree with some, I was not feeling a lot of that game as far as exploration was concerned, which is a shame because it has some great environment design and I liked Robert Carlyle. Never finished it.

Resident Evil on PlayStation, although I haven't played the GC/Wii remake yet to see if anything has changed. I started the game, got to a certain point where I decided to put it on the backburner, restarted it, forgot what to do next, then started back over again. I'm near the end of the game (the guardhouse) at this point though.

Hehe, RE1 is a short game, but not THAT short. You're less than halfway through at the guardhouse!

The CG version is quite different. But, if I had to describe how I felt playing it, it was strange mixture of boredom and nervousness. You're wondering when something exciting is gonna happen, then a zombie comes crashing through a door. It's like they sing you a lullaby and switch to Death Metal with the volume all the way up to wake you back up after 15 seconds of nap.

However, the king of boring Resident Evil is CODE: Veronica. Bland, foggy, polygonal environments and huge stretches of backtracking throughout the island. Plus, it's at least twice as long as any other RE before it.

For other games, I echo sentiments of FFXII. Got to the second-to-last dungeon and just dropped it. I didn't even bother youtubing the ending until months later.

Another one, The Witcher 1 (Witcher 2 not so much!). I got the game Christmas 2007, and didn't even get past Chapter 1 until last year. It's gets better after that, except you still have to backtrack through the damn swamp.

Not questioning why you hate it(to each his own of course), but why keep giving the series another chance if all they do is "bore" you?

I could understand maybe giving the 2nd game a try, maybe even going for the third. But the ones after?

Borderlands. Go retrieve 3000000 items and bring them back. Listen to fireworks. Pick up 3000000 guns that are all the same. Dream of shooting yourself in the head with all of them.

Fable 1 and 2. Drudrmey druma I got a bit of meh toff in meh tiff, I did!

Dragon Age. The maker! Bless the maker! The maker, the maker!

Final Fantasy XIII. Whaaaa! I'm sad! I'm gonna turn into a lece just because!

Oh and how did I forget Half Life 2. This took me nearly a year and a half to finish, pretty much for the same reasons previously listed: boring setting, characters, gunplay etc. I think the only reason I made myself beat it was because of all the hype surrounding it. And it did, fortunately, somewhat redeem itself in the last few sections so I wasn't completely disappointed.

Played Ep 1 & 2 and had a blast though. Golfham that last section of Ep 2, great stuff.

Red Dead Redemption - Bad shooting, boring plot, huge open world with nothing to do.
Oblivion/Fallout 3 - Terrible combat, ugly, don't find the Wastelands interesting in the slightest.
Far Cry 2 - The gameplay's pretty solid but all the repetition just kills it. After a while it just feels like you're doing the same thing over and over again.
Minecraft - Not much into virtual building, and outside of that and the barebones survival game I don't know what else there is to do.

I have gotten bored at some points playing some of those games, but sometimes it's best to push through it and continue because most of time (at least for me), they game gets better and you get more into it becomes harder so you have to think try harder. Maybe this wasn't the case for you at all, but this happened late in the game for me with infamous because the enemies were different.

This is another MGS4 bash thread in disguise right? Anyway ontopic:

- Call of Duty SP, only played a few MP rounds
- All Bioware games
- Anything by Platinum, sold Vanquish and Bayo before finishing them
- Sam & Max by telltale, although I somewhat enjoy their MI spinoff
- Phoenix Wright Games
- Prof. Layton Games
- AssCred 2, way too long and boring, especially after 1
- Resistance, ultrageneric focus grouped games with no soul
- Ratchet & Clank post PS2 series, the fun is not here anymore, I still have ACIT waiting for me to open it and change my opinion, not happening anytime soon
- Any Zelda game released after LTTP, deja vu

I won't stick with any game that isn't fun. GTA IV could have become the best game in the world, but after two hours of annoying missions, phones calls, and taking a girl bowling I just couldn't be bothered to keep playing.

I'm really picky when it comes to games these days. I probably only end up buying 3-4 retail games as I just don't see alot of fun in most franchises these days. :(

I miss the more lighthearted whimsical games of the previous generations.

Infamous is a good example. No matter how much the gameplay might have improved, I just found the character completely unlikeable and the overall experience suffered in my eyes.

I have high hopes for a waggle free Nintendo system to be unveiled at E3, so maybe all is not lost. :)

Oh, and a new Ape Escape wouldn't hurt either.

Because all my friends got 3, ODST, Reach and I got it to play with them. I went through Halo 1 and 2 quickly because I had never played the series before 3 came out. I don't hate it by any stretch and honestly I'd be hard pressed to say it truly bored me death as the title of this thread says. I just found them boringly average.

Last game that actually managed to bore me was Final Fantasy XIII. Chapter 9 was it? Running through the sewers, descending.

God damn.

Picked-up R:FoM for a couple of € last week thinking that since the game received a lot of praise when the PS3 launched, it has to be a good game (if not a great game), but I think just finishing KZ3 made me throw up after booting up the game: Ugly, dumb story, broken controls and did I say how the game is ugly ?
Anyway, worst 5€ spent of my life :(

Gears of War 2 made me want to drill a hole through my skull despite really enjoying the first game

God of War 3 met me with an expansive "meh" despite adoring the first two games.

:\

I played the God of War trilogy with a group of friends, passing the controller after each game over. It was much, much, funner this way. I couldn't even get myself to play past the intro of the first by myself. I think it was because we laughed at how much of an asshole Kratos was, lol

But I think you're right, GoW3 wasn't as exciting, depsite the prettyness.

Just looking at my shelf...

Assassin's Creed
Army of Two: The 40th Day
Bionic Commando
Dragon Age: Origins
Final Fantasy XIII
Killzone 2
Mirror's Edge

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Got really sick of how the multiplayer felt. I actually went back to MW2. It's less balanced but more fun.

Halo: Reach

I was let down by Halo: Reach. The story was good and the multiplayer was decent but I don't think it was better than Halo 3. I guess I just missed that sense of mystery and wonder that was in the previous games.

That's a tough one, as it's rare when a game will really bore the hell out of me.

Suikoden III was definitely one of those. I spent about 10-12 hours with the game and it didn't get any better (if anything it got worse). The only good thing I can say about that game is that I sold it for $90 on Ebay a couple of months before it was reprinted at $30.

Final Fantasy XIII is another that I spent a similar amount of time with but eventually the slog just got to me and I moved on.

Eternal Sonata was pretty goddamn boring too, although most of that was me tuning out the awful cutscenes.

Every GTA game I've ever played (and I think I played them all). I always get bored of the missions and end up blowing crap up. Seeing how many cars I could stack in an alley before setting off a domino-effect explosion in the first GTA was good fun. I somehow always forget how bored I tend to get with the games when a new one is coming up.. they do hype well.

More recently, LA Noire got really repetitive during the homicide cases. Couldn't keep going.

Lol that sucks because the game gets a lot better later which was my point, but yeah GTA IV starts off slow and it's boring. You would probably think RDR is the worst game ever then.

For Infamous I didn't like Cole, the main character that much and I really disliked Zeke, his friend, but damn this game was mainly about the gameplay which got much chaotic once you progressed. I've never heard of anybody disliking infamous because of the characters. They just say that it was boring or something of that nature, lol...

Nitpicky you are =p

Assassins Creed - When it came out I was playing it at my friend's house. He said he already beat it and offered to loan it to me. I told him no thanks, 10 minutes was enough.

Infamous - Rented it and stopped playing within an hour.

LBP - Bought it based on hype. Cute but not that fun. Traded it within a week.

Dragon Age - I didn't last more than a few hours before quitting. Pretty much all of Bioware's modern games bore me. I didn't like Mass Effect either.

Far Cry 2 - I think I played this for 10 minutes before realizing I wanted nothing to do with it. I don't know why I didn't give it much of a chance, I've just become insanely picky with FPS games.

Burnout Paradise - Bought this after it went to greatest hits status, based on gaf positive word of mouth, nice graphics, but the racing portion bored me to death.

It's been mentioned about a thousand times already, but Final Fantasy XIII.

The Fifth Ark is the most boring, monotonous, painful game level ever created.

dead-space-2.jpg

Ended first one after 3 or 4 months..still need to finish 2nd and the strange thing i love these games :S strange

I haven`t seen anyone mention it but Paper Mario: The thousand year door is the most boring game out of my collection of 45 gamecube games. I had the official guide and made it to chapter 4 or so, what a fucking boring, long, uninteresting game.

Wow. I really agree with the OP :( I struggled with boredom playing Half life 2 and Episode 1. Good thing Episode 2 fix that, I believe.

And Portal 2 can only be played in short time before boredom hits.

fallout-new-vegas-logo.jpg

Terrible world design, settlements scattering the world had mostly zero incentive for the player to visit. Spent upwards 30 hours exploring notable locales in the waste en route to Vegas and was constantly assaulted with disappointment at every turn. The dull questlines, companions, and horrific endgame scenario capped off one of my personal letdowns of 2010.

Fable 1 I found it so boring at the time of release, but I love fable 2

Fallout 3 Cant for the life of me pass the 12 hour mark on this game, I bought it, sold it and bought it 2 times :/

Final Fantasy 8 Shitty emo characters = fuck this shit

Infamous meh

God of War 1 and 2 Repetitive as hell and a lot of unnecessary stuff (sex minigames etc), havent played 3

As some have already alluded to in this topic, a game can be boring but you can still love it. For me, that game might be Borderlands. I've probably sunk a good twenty hours or so into it while using two different characters. On paper, I love the RPG-lite elements, the graphics, all the different guns, etc. Saying that, as soon as I start playing it...I start to get a little drowsy. I'll put the game away for a week or two and then start it up again and that usually helps. For a little while.
