Which genius game designer has stolen more of your life: Will Wright vs Sid Meier

Sid for me. I played The Sims for about 10-12 hours, and that was that. Civ IV, however, I've clocked over 300 hours on.

not even a contest...
i mean simcity were good and all, but sims??? erhm...
on the other hand, civilization, call 2 power, alpha centauri, pirates....
cmon, it's a no brainer for sid!

Is Civilization really that good? Its pretty cheap on the Mac App Store and I was tempted to get it.
If you like empire-building games it is great. The cities you build have RPGish qualities to them in that you "level" them up as you go, and you can hold large-scale wars and annihilate other nations as well.

It's cheaper on Steam, plus it runs native on Steam anyway (Mac App store version also seems a bit unstable). Wait a few days and it might get even cheaper due to the holidays sale until the 2nd.

Sid.

No idea as to a total, but I played Civ 2 from 1999 until 4 came out, installing it at least once a year. Played a shit load of 4 and 5 too.

Played Sim City in Amiga during a lot of time. The other games of these guys are boring or uninteresting for me.

It was fun to joke "having sex" with a female friend in Sims Social, but Will Wright wasn't involved in this game.

I love Civilization and Pirates, but I gotta go with Wright on this one. 90s era MAXIS was a golden age unto itself for experimental game design. I mean, I loved SimFarm for crying out loud.

This would be a close contest if I quit playing Sid Meier games in 1992.

((I didn't))

Although half of that time was spent waiting on my C64 to load ... so Sid has an unfair advantage.

Peter Molyneux - Played the heck out of Populous.

Messed around with Sim City for a few hours, and never played Civ etc.

Wright, I have put far more hours into Sim games then any of the Meier games. All though out Middle School, it was just Sim game after Sim game. Sim Ant, Sim Copter, Sim Farm, Sim City 2000, the Sims, the Sims for Consoles, Sim Earth, and a bunch of other Sim games that weren't that good. Biggest reason is that the public Library had some PC games, and the bulk of things worth playing were Sim Titles (And that after you installed the game, you didn't need the CD)

I was totally hooked into Sim Golf back then. So Sid Meier, I guess. I was more of a Roller Coaster Tycoon guy

Will Wright by a small margin.

I've played the Sims for about 5 hours before. Only put about an hour into Civ. Haven't played any of their other games.

The real winner however is Masahiro Sakurai. So many hours into Smash Bros/Melee, not to mention a bit of Kirby here and there.

Gotta go with Sid. From Pirates! on the NES to Pirates on the PC (2004). I still can't get enough of that game. I have played Sim City and Sim City on the SNES is the only one I can get into. All the other ones got too much going on in them. Been thinking of picking up Sim City 4 for a while now but after playing Sim City 2000 it just didn't grab my attention like the SNES version.

So:

Sid 2 - NES and PC (2004) Pirates!
Wright 1 - Sim City SNES

played the sims once. then I put in cheat codes. then i made a labyrinth of hallways and toilets. then the game was "beat".

end of story.

i've heard of civilization and pirates, and yet never played any or knew someone that played any.

wright wins.
