Which God of War was the most visually appealing?

To those of you who have finished all of the God of War games, which games was the most visually stunning? Technically the PS3 GoW games are superior to the others and I want to focus on the differences between GoW 3 and Ascension, but feel free to post which game had the best looking environments and captured the scale of battle the best.

Ascension is a beautiful game no doubt, but I felt that it wasn't as colorful as GoW 3, few colors were too prominent.

I remember 3 looking better. I may only think that because it was the first one I played. 3 certainly had better sound because GoW Ascenion wasn't patched when I played it.

God of War 3 for me. For some reason, I replayed it and still think it has better graphics compared to Ascension.

Ascension wasn't any slouch, but GoW3 looked sharper and above all, played better and with more direction. :)

GoW3 is still the best-looking PS3 (or current?) game this gen, no?

It's hard to tell, but Ascension might be slightly more technically impressive than GoW3. I still think 3 has an aesthetic advantage which lifts it above Ascension.

god of war 2

I remember being much more impressed with GoW 2 than 3 when I first played the games. The second game still has the best, and nicest looking, settings of all the games. That's all besides the point though.

God of War 3. Simply because they just mash in everything from Greek mythology before they can finish off Kratos' arc. All those locations and gods you fight, make it the most stunning one.

Dat last boss fight in Ascension vs Kronos in God of War 3... Highlights of these 2 games for me. Overall though, GoW3 looked slightly better.

For me it's 2, easily. One of favourite games of all time actually. I didn't rate 3 that much visually, dissapointing lack of variety and colour compared to previous instalments. Disclaimer: haven't played gos or ascension

God of War 2. Not only for the varied locales, but the Colossus of Rhodes and the Steeds of time were, and still are, knockouts.

Ascension had really great art and lighting but 3 was still better looking IMO. Regardless they're both beautiful games that recognized that the dial goes to 11.

Haven't played Ascension aside from the demo.

My impression is that they should have saved it for a PS4 launch title.

They improved things with the rendering, but had to draw back the scale a bit to do so because the PS3 was maxed out.

Not to mention the weird series fatigue, even though there was only one on PS3.

I feel like it would have had much more hype and even sold more units as a PS4 launch title.

3 has a huge variety of settings and colors and it all looks beautiful. Ascension has superior lightning and character models. I'd go with GoW3 overall though.

I think I like the art direction of GOW2 the best, but obviously GOW3 and Ascension destroy it on a technical level. I guess I like the color palette of Ascension more than 3, so that game wins for visuals.

That's weird, I think 3 is the most inconsistent and has the most visual low points in the series.

I thought the Poseidon boss battle from 3 couldn't be topped but then came the final boss from Ascension.

One of the most impressive things I've ever seen.

You say inconsistent I say varried ;)

I don't know how people can say how GOW 3 is more appealing . people may be favoring it because it was first GOW on ps3 but Ascension is better than GOW 3 in almost every way.
this i found out when recently marathoning all gow

I don't really find any of the GoW series 'visually appealing', in fact I find them kinda visually repellent what with their dark, gritty and then gorey styles.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

GOW 2, GOW Acension and GOW COO are all very bright colorful but gory. (2 & coo in cartoonic way )

Probably God of War 2 because I feel like it's the most consistent. 3 and Ascension are also pretty mind blowing at times.

Ghost of Sparta on the Psp had some very nice areas as well.

Frankly, I have to go with God of War 2. It's the most memorable when it comes to the variety of locations and aesthetics. Those huge metallic horses pulling an entire island... holy crap I still remember that.

God of War 3 is so forgettable in comparison, all the levels and locations blur together for me. The only truly memorable moments visually speaking were Poseidon's and Cronos' boss battles.

Thats because it takes place just on mount Olympus. GOW2 takes you to very different locations.

As someone who just marathoned all of the God of War games a few days ago, I'd say:

In terms of graphics alone - it’s Ascension. In terms of art/diversity - it’s God of War II.

In 10 years from now I’ll likely look at God of War II as being the overall best looking...

God of War III for me. More colors, better luminosity on the orbs, etc. it was more colourful for me.

Anyone wished Ascension would be made first and then wrap it up with GOW 3 in 2013? Can you imagine the polish and design choices then?

GoW II on console and Ghost of Sparta on PSP.

Ghost of Sparta looked really nice and had GREAT visual appeal.

It's also the ONLY game in the series to show a full ingame rendition of Sparta
