Which perceived problems in gaming are you part of?

I pre-order special editions, which come with soundtracks and other extras, and I buy DLCs when they're worth it, like TLOU: Left Behind. I don't see how it could be perceived as a problem though.

Pre-orders somewhat, if I know it's a game or series that I love that shit is getting pre-ordered and pre-loaded for me to enjoy at midnight.

Pre-ordering can be done right. I pre-ordered Mad Max. If the reviews were bad I could send it back to Amazon unopened. Going to play it today based on reviews. Doesn't look too bad and you got give AAA games a curve these days because AAA games get graded harder than indies.

I like "fanservice".

I also pre-order from time to time when I know it is a game I want. Happens less and less these days because I am buying less games day 1. A game like SF5 where I already know I am interested and want to be there day 1? Already pre-ordered, but I can cancel that at any time if I really wanted to.

I tend to wait for a lot of smaller indie games to hit PS+ or a <$5 price point on Steam before buying. Though this seems like more of a Sony/Valve problem than a me-problem. It does end up meaning me missing a lot of indie games that I probably would actually really like, but what the hell, I'm paying for PS+ and want to get my money's worth.

I occasionally support Konami via yugioh (although it's run differently from it's video game division) and on occasion defend questionable Nintendo business practices.

I also have a handful of amiibo: 7 currently, gunning for 2 more.

I buy DLC, though lately I've taken to only buying content DLC that I know I will play.

I preorder games often. They're usually Nintendo games, although there are two or three non-Nintendo games that I plan to preorder by the end of this year (Transformers, Street Fighter, and Just Cause) and one that I already have (Rock Band).

I buy mostly digital, but I do so on Steam. I usually try to buy physical wherever possible on consoles, I'll only get digital retail games when they're free (eg Pikmin 3).

I don't give usually a shit about framerate as long as the game plays well. Some genres should never be 30 FPS (fighting games, for example), but many games are fine at that rate.

I buy amiibo occasionally. Pretty much only ever at MSRP, though.

I don't mind remasters.

I support certain cheese cakey games like Shantae and Skullgirls. That's basically my limit, though.

Otto von Bismarck? rofl Never thought I would read that name on NeoGAF haha

Well pre-order I guess. Last one was Dishonered, next one will be Uncharted Collection. But only if i'm 100% sure and only several weeks in advance and not months (I could pre-order now Battlefront and Fallout 4 because I definitely gonna buy them at release but I will wait till november)

Edit: oh and buying ports obviously lol

I will buy Nintendo products only for its software.

Which means I'm part of the problem in regards to their hardware being mediocre, because even I hate the WiiU hardware but bought it to play their stuff.

Collecting too many figures. I've got about 20 amiibos and a baker's dozen Infinity ones, with eyes on more.

I don't even really care about the games they're tied to or their functionality, they're just neat merch for properties I like. The cohesive styling and scale looks great set all in a row, and the statuesque static poses look much cooler on display than the jointed jank of posable figures.

It's too bad they don't sell cheaper versions without the NFC stuff, I would buy even more. @_@

Oh and I used to buy a tooooon of Rock Band DLC. First few years I'd just buy any ol' thing with a catchy guitar riff.

Not nearly so receptive to DLC in general now, though. I'll maybe buy a season pass when it goes on sale and it's for a game I really loved, none of this piecemeal nickel and diming for me anymore.

I preorder to have the game at my door when I get home from work. I'm okay actually with some Day One bugs as long as they are worked out in short order.

I AM part of the port-problem. I am a sucker for ports. Though, I have passed on several, I don't see them as the death of gaming like a lot of people seem to believe. I think they actually have a lot of merits..

As to the rest, not really contributing to them. Usually don't buy DLC until it's a 50% off sale or something like I did with BF4, Titanfall (which went free in the end) and so on.

-I preorder if the sale price is tempting enough
-I have no problem with season passes/DLC if I enjoy the base game

Those are really the only two I can think of, pretty reasonable imo.

I preorder and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I like to buy games on release and having Amazon ship it for free makes my life easier. I even preordered the new Deus Ex that has everyone stirred up. I don't care one little bit about their tiered reward scheme. I was going to preorder it no matter what so if they throw in extra rewards because other people preorder it that's just fine with me.

I don't mind remasters.

Same here. I hadn't played Tomb Raider on the PS3, so the PS4 version gave me the opportunity to experience a better version of it. I had played TLOU before, but it was nice to revisit it in a better form, and I actually postponed my second playthrough for it, when the rumors about the remaster started to surface. EDIT: The same goes for Flower, The Unfinished Swan, and Journey, which didn't even cost anything due to cross-buy.

I won't be buying GOW or Uncharted remasters, as I have no desire to revisit them (unless GOW3 will be offered on PS+ at some point), but there are many PS4 owners who didn't own a PS3, so for them they'll be new experiences.

I buy dungeon crawler games despite all the cheesecake
I don't mind skimpily dressed anime girls
I have a high tolerance to anime bullshit
I like Touhou
I buy DLC

I pre order games but I don't see it as a problem. As a Canadian, pre orders are the only way for me to get deals, and i only pre order stuff I know I want.

I bought Phantom Pain, but won't be spending a dime on the FOBs. Fuck out of here with that. I bought the game to support Kojima, even though I know my money is going to Konami. May as well make my last purchase a good one.

I guess I'm a culprit of preorder culture. If there's a collector's edition for a game I already planned on purchasing, I preorder it. Does that count?

I buy DLC frequently. It's not an ideological thing for me. I just see a product being sold for a price, and if the price is worth it to me, I buy it.

I also preorder a lot of games. Don't see any reason not to. I already know what I want to spend my money on, and if publishers want to throw a little bonus my way, great.

I guess nowadays what could be considered bad is that i don't mind fanservice, i'd even admit i like it (there's a reason i also play a few porn games now and then).

I buy DLC but only for games i care about and if i feel it's worth it (really rare).

I always buy something from the cash shop of an MMO if i feel it's somewhat decent even if i quit later on, an outfit in general.

I don't mind framerate issues (or locked 30fps), my tolerance is lower when it comes to an action game but if it's locked 30 with a few dips now and then then i'm fine.

I bought MGSV (even preordered it at that; $38 was too good to pass up) so I guess I'm a dirty Konami whore.

Otherwise, I never buy DLC unless it's old school expansion-sized and actually does meaningful stuff, I never engage in microtransactions (unless you count the Stanley Parable Announcer Pack in DOTA2...I certainly don't) and I only preorder if it saves me a substantial amount of money on a game I know I'm going to buy anyway. Even then, I usually don't preorder until early reviews have hit.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm also one of those people who likes Bethesda and BioWare RPGs, so I guess that's a Bad Thing that I'm part of.

PC preorders are funny because if you want to play near day 1, preorders can save you insane amounts of money. Plus there are some really nice return policies in place anyway. What's there to lose?

I pre-order most if not all my games. Whether there's an incentive or not.

I enjoy the ubisoft collectathon approach to open world games. Its very derivative so i'm not trying to defend it like it's the pinnacle of game design but it gives me a reason to explore the world and always gives me something to do while being rewarding in the form of upgrades/xp/unlocks/etc. I bought mad max pretty much for this very reason even though the game looks pretty mediocre and i know next to jack shit about the mad max universe. Its why by most accounts I can say that GTA V is a better game than Watchdogs but i actually had more fun with Watchdogs than i did with GTA V

Preorders - Only for games that I want day 1 or may be low stock

DLC - As long as prices are fair and the core game has a significant amount of content, I am fine with it.

Nintendo - Wi U is my most played console this gen, followed by 3DS, Vita, then the HDRemix Twins. Aside from voice chat and account system (which is possible, just not often done in first party games), I'm fine with their online system.

Buggy releases - Don't have to worry about this, since most of the games I buy day 1 are from publishers who do not regularly rush out projects annually.

I enjoy a bit of fanservice. But fanservice that skews toward fetishizing underaged characters puts me on the fast train to Nopetown. It's insane to see anyone past 16 tripping over themselves to rationalize it.

The best (worst?) example I can think of is PS Plus on PS4 - Sony was actually basking in a lot of good will, with all of the no DRM stuff at E3, and sneakily fingered in that online was to be paywalled. As such, nobody kicked up about it, myself included, and here we are two years later with much lower quality plus games overall and a monthly sub despite a shoddy network (at the time of writing, I can't login to the PSN store on my laptop because sign in won't work).

If you're AAA or bust the games are worse. Otherwise the quality has remained the same. We got a GOTY contender in July and we're getting STFU today.

Network quality does need to improve though.

I pre-order most if not all my games. Whether there's an incentive or not.

Yeah, Ubisoft Game (TM) is comfort food for me. It's nice just to kill 20 hours upgrading shit, and the moment to moment gameplay is fun.

i support "bad" ports and "bad" DLC. I enjoye koei games a lot, i enjoy mowing thousand of enemies even through their ports are substandard I end up buying most of their games. When i enjoy a game i'm very likely to buy DLC even if that DLC is nothing special.

I buy whatever I want with zero regrets.
Pretty much this... I don't consider most of the listed things inherently bad, it's all about the implementation. I buy stuff I consider worthy of my time and money, and that may include pre-orders, DLC, buggy games or whatever... and I'm also a GamersGate supporter! :P

I bought all the dragon quest iOS ports.

And I got the Mario kart 8 dlc (no regrets)
But I don't buy iap boosts or play freemium games or stuff like that usually.

Things I Do:

- I preorder but after the Destiny fiasco, ONLY by trusted developers that don't have "as bad" a history of fucking up with DLC, half assed games, etc. (Nintendo, Square Enix certain games, Bandai Namco)

- I don't really mind remasters but I WILL say ever since they started showing up on PS4/XBONE I have NOT purchased a single one despite there being several I'd like to have.

- I don't mind fanservice, whether its character DLC, additions or whatever. I'd like to see everyone or at least a great amount of people happy as opposed to people complaining about what's missing or what could be in something.

- I buy DLC but only for certain developers/games that I trust with what I perceive having a good or decent track record for quality, quantity and reasonable pricing. The amount of DLC I've purchased in my gaming lifetime is surprisingly minimal (probably less than 40 items of DLC over the entire lifespan of DLC being in games)

- I buy amiibos. Smash is my top 5 fave franchises and the moment they were announced I had already resigned to my fate of buying them ALL. Outside of that, I don't own an amiibo for no other franchise. Once Smash's line is over, I'm retiring lol.

Things I DON'T Do:

- Engage in common preordering. Unless its what I mentioned in point #1 above, I can wait. Destiny burned the shit outta me and it was a harsh lesson that was learned. This goes especially for new IPs. Gotta see those scores first/overall opinion before I jump in.

- Microtransactions. None. Period.

- Scalp. If I have extra amiibos, instead of reselling them I will ALWAYS trade them for another amiibo of equal "rare status" or close to that.

- Dislike the whole sexualizing women thing. I actually prefer female characters that are clothed or if I have the opportunity to change the appearance or outfit of a female character, she's usually wearing something suited for battle.

I'm a F2P whale, but only in Dota. Does that still count?
Nothing wrong spending money on a game you enjoy... never dabbled in microtransactions myself, but if there was an F2P game I regularly play, I'd have no reservations about throwing some money the developer's way.

I'm pretty level when it comes to consumerism, but l love to get hyped for games. Anything else l can resist but l'm such a hype whore, l really thought l would have grown out of it by now, but no.

Gotta get over it before my kids start playing the same games as me and l'm an over the hill gamer playing Just Cause 8 with his 55 year old friends (not co-op of course!)

i usually don't finance shit practices...i suppose though i'am culprit of having a non-region free 3ds..i don't import so it didn't really mattered to me,and it was at a good price..
but apart from that,no dlc if not in a goty,no microtransactions,no pre order, nada

Pre-Order culture. Bad ports. Buggy releases. Microtransactions. Tons of DLCs. Otto von Bismarck forced out of office. Bad Quality. Missing Features. No communication. GamerGate support. Lies. Konami. Which perceived problems in gaming are you supporting with your money despite knowing better? What perceived problems are no problems in your eyes?

I moan everytime I get an inferior Koei-Tecmo port on PC, since they keep proting last-gen stuff instead of the current-game versions. Something even midrange PCs could handle. But yet I keep buying their games, most of the times even on release.

What?

I do pre-order some games, but typically only from Nintendo because I place the most trust in them. I do occasionally pre-order a non-Nintendo game, but that's a very rare occurrence.

I've said this before, if I had the ability to rebuy everything I owned past gen onto my PS4 with better framerates and all that, I would.

There's something about the fanservice in Senran Kagura that's really charming that I give a free pass to.

I think people are crazy for suggesting people to not buy Phantom Pain because of Konami, and I'm glad I think this because the game is FUCKING AMAZING.

I play Fallout Shelter when I am bored but never purchased anything. I guess that counts?

I have played bad ports for current gen but always as rentals and have purchased DLCs.

Fairly clean of the other listed items.

I will rent MGSV though in the fairly near future (like asap).

My turning point on all this is when I preordered Destiny and got the season pass last year. Never again... that was a complete waste. I am hoping the new direction they are going with the Taken King ends up being good. I do kind of miss Destiny when it was squeaky fresh and new.

Nothing wrong spending money on a game you enjoy... never dabbled in microtransactions myself, but if there was an F2P game I regularly play, I'd have no reservations about throwing some money the developer's way.

I did exactly that with Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, because they offered such a good amount of free content.
