Prometheus is a really boring movie (and silly in a bad way sometimes as well) but if you want to watch it, go for it. Rest of the list is top though.

You didn't watch Aliens? Holy shit.
I like Prometheus mainly for the concepts that are present in it, and the depiction of the world and set pieces. So I suspended a lot of my criticism with it. Alien doesn't have too much of a big picture story to fuck up, it's just a great capturing of a personal struggle. The setting and tone are great. It's not nearly as elaborate of creating sci-fi porn. But then again the movie isn't trying to find excuses to flex it's sci-fi dick.

Prometheus, bad as it is, thankfully didn't poison the entire well. The sequel could end up being genuinely great, especially since Lindelof isn't involved.
It's still frustrating how he (and scott to a degree, apparently) messed so much up. It could've been great

Don't even bother with Prometheus because it's beautifully shot, annoying pretentious shit.
I caught it again on cable a few weeks back - it's stunning to look at in places but everything else about it is so idiotic and nonsensical it just annoyed me. It has a nice relaxing quality to the delivery though, but I think that's probably because it's so boring.

ALIEN is amazing, Prometheus is pretty good but if you watch it the internet will tell you that you might get cancer. Proceed at your own risk.

Always watch movies of popular series in order of release. That way you can see what made it the series it is today.

Alien 3 is optional if you want to see the beginnings of the downward spiral. Make sure you have the "I am disappoint son" popcorn ready though. It will taste awfully salty.

I really like Prometheus. I didn't get hung up on some of the nonsense as most people or the fact that it was supposed to be connect to the Alien franchise. None of that really matters. Watch the redlettermedia review of it, a lot of people like to post the clip of them listing all the stupid shit, but it's out of the context of their overall positive reactions.
