I'd say the main issue is society's hangups about abortion and not what he said. I'd bet that most people have thought about scenarios in which they would abort a fetus with a problem, they just don't have to answer questions about it because they aren't asked for their opinion on Twitter.

Given the choice between a fair, intellectual opinion about a tough subject, and "social taboos" that allow for one cop-out/dishonest answer, I'm going to choose intellectualism every time. A person would have to agree to really have my respect.

Just like in every other case, this is about people being resentful of hearing what they don't want to hear, rather Dawkins being wrong or unfair.
