Why do I keep coming into threads like this? All that ever happens is I leave feeling depressed and unloved. Well, that, and hating Shane for the ridiculous amount of fans that bastard has!

HAHAHA, you're not the only one, dude. It's nice to get the odd ego boost from time to time.

Actually, I kept hearing how great Idle Thumbs was. I started listening and they were great. Then an episode or two later they announce that the show is ending. Ha. Yeah, I didn't even get to know them well enough to tell them apart.

If we're going by their history and not just what are currently involved with (if they are currently involved with something now):

Jeff Gerstmann
Shawn Elliot
Jeff Green
Shane B
"Whimsical" Phil Theobald

Best infrequent guest on podcast: Martin "DJMizuhara" Waterfield

SS: Jordan Morris (Jordan, Jesse, Go) (I wish he would do a full video game podcast instead of just bring them up on the show/work in the industry partially)
S: Justin, Travis, and Griffin McElroy (My Brother, My Brother, And Me) (same)
1: Ray Barnholt (1-Up/Gamepro)
2: Phil Theobald (Player 1 Podcast)
3: Shane Bettenhausen (1-Up)
4: Sterling McGarvey (The Gamespy Debriefings)
5: Jade Kraus (1-Up)

But, really, I'd rather just like podcasts. No list that ignores most of 1-Up, Shawn Elliott, the Fitches, Jeff Gerstmann, the Gamasutra people, 4th String, The Cruncheons, 1 Life Left, Warning, A Huge Podcast, Game Theory, 8-4, and the rest could be representative. I love you all!

Jeff Gerstmann is the video game equivalent of Glen Beck. I'll never understand the love he gets from GAF. He's an obnoxious windbag.

For me:
Garnett Lee
Ngai Croal
Ludwig/Justin/Chris (they're all one person, right?)

Jeff Green
Shane Bettenhausen
Robert Ashley
Shawn Elliot
Vinny Caravella

Honorable mentions: Jeff/Ryan/Brad, N'Gai, Jeff Canata(sp), Garnett Lee, John Davison

o.0

Currently, I'd have to say I'm a huge fan of the GiantBomb crew and Mark MacDonald. Jeff Green, Robert Ashley, Shawn Elliot, and Jeremy Parish were also outstanding to listen to, but they aren't appearing on podcasts all that often anymore (for obvious reasons).

Edit: My mistake, regarding Parish. I haven't been actively following 1up lately; is "Games, Damnit!" any good? I might go check out an episode or two.

I do find it strange that you'd describe Gerstmann in that manner but like Croal. And I'm one of Croal's fans!

Hmm tried to whitte it down but I can't.

Jeff Gerstman
Ryan Davis
Brad Shoemaker
Vinny Caravella
Jon Davison
Luke Smith
Garnet Lee
Shane Bentenhousen
Jeff Green
Shawn Elliott
Arthur Gies
Cheapy D
Mark McDonald

Weekly 5 person podcast would have to be:

Garnett Lee
Mark "Gaming Jesus" MacDonald
Jeff Green
Robert Ashley
Shane Bettenhausen

Imagine that podcast. Wow.

I'm going to do this differently and list the personalities who have the best voice to listen to, imho.

1. Chris Remo

When I first started listening to IdleThumbs I noticed that Chris' voice had something I missed from other podcasts, I can't put my finger on it but it just felt comfortable to listen to. That said it was really weird to actually see the body from which the voice emanated (no offence Chris :D), I guess that's the radio voice syndrome when you associate a good voice with your own perception of someone. Plus the dude sings

2. Vinny Caravella

I always love it when he starts off the Giant Bombcast, also his hosting on On The Spot made the leaving of Rich Gallup a lot more bearable. A nice relaxed deep voice.

3. Sean "Famous" Vanaman

Without sounding like an IdleThumbs fanboy (which I am), I like Sean's voice because it is clear (and he doesn't giggle as much :D) and has a nice deep timbre to it

4. Jeff Gerstmann

When he is serious his voice is clear, plus when he gets all psyched you never know what's going to hit you.

5. Jeff Cannata

A common thing I noticed in a lot of podcasts is that the speakers are all very cynical and sometimes even bitter. I can understand that to a point but listening to Cannata always brings a smirk on my face because he sounds genuinely excited about videogames. This reflects back in his voice, which is pleasant to listen to.

Honourable mentions to Jake Rodkin, Brad Schoemaker and the Drunken Gamers from Drunken Gamers Radio.

Jeff Gerstman
Ryan Davis
Vinny Caravella
Brad Shoemaker
Garnett Lee

Mangod and Jonny English are no longer podcasting otherwise they'd beat out Vinny and Brad. Honorable mention: Jeff Cannata.

Random Question: The in your face humor(Kevin Smith, Howard stern type of personality) I can appreciate but it's not for what I look for in a podcast.

What are good gaming podcast(personalities) that either have very dry humor or are light on the humor sides of the things?

Scott Sharkey. True story.
Ray Barnholt
Doug (Cruncheons) has extracted quite a few chuckles from me
Giant dudes from the Bombcast
I really like Jenn Frank
