I'm intrigued by this whole discussion but am somewhat confused by the responses. It seems odd to tout famous friends.
What is not clear about it? Aside from a few people saying their cousin's roomate's ex wet-nurse met a semi-pro billiards player or whatever.

This place. Some of you guys are huge fans of not reading the questions and jump to weird responses. Others just lack reading comprehension skills entirely.

To me this couldn't be more clear.

Also, at least half of the nominees fit what OP said. So - where's the problem as you see it?

When I met my wife I had no idea, but being from Long Island, she grew up with the members of the band Brand New. I loved them long before meeting her, but every time they come to town, I get to go backstage and hang out with my favorite band, and I have to play it off like it's no big deal :lol

That's impressive. Good shit!

95% of the people mentioned in this thread aren't "famous", at least not internationally. Not trying to be an ass here, that's just the truth from a Swedish point of view.

And no, I don't know anyone famous either. My brother's girlfriend is friends with Håkan Hellström though, who is a hugely famous singer in Sweden (but probably totally unknown outside Scandinavia).

I used to play little league baseball with Dexter Fowler of the Rockies. His dad was actually the one to get me into little league baseball. Before then I just played street ball with my friends.

My Grandmother is a relative of harry belafonte. My dad used to hang out with celebs when he lived in Jamaica and used to drink rum and play dominos with Bob Marley. I have a cousin that climbs mountains. My brother is an independant rap artist(isn't famous though).

I got a handjob from a model while playing mario brothers for the NES and did coke with another model and made out with her. I palmed a titty too. A Ms. Pittsburgh took down a site I was associated with because we had some pics of her at the beach up on it.

I knew a guy that used to fuck Christiana Aguilera in HS. I knew Lamar Odom. Weren't friends or anything though. Played ball against some college players. My cousin punched out a UNC player in a NYC pickup game. Also knew a guy that was friends with Hoobastank.

And teh gay sex.

Be sure to tell Atom that the Count is a fan. If he needs help with a title or tagline, I'm the guy.

Hehe, Exotica is definitely not the first film he's done with gay sex in it, nor is it the last, It's as if the guy made a deal with the gay devil, to be a successful filmmaker but only if all of his films include some gay sexual content in them :lol :lol

Hey Man I'll keep you posted, Just like my name says though I may not have much pull when it comes to the big ass productions he gets involved in ( I did some graphic design work on Ararat back in 2001, I really wish I was involved in more of his films after that...)

but yeah if I get him slightly interested in my project, maybe I can get you to do something small too, so at the least you get to share your name with his name in credits! I take it you excel in graphic design in film titles etc? ;)

I grew up with and is a friend of Brandon Mebane, defensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks. We went to the same schools all the way to high school and just recently he came through LA to celebrate my 25th birthday.

Actress Nia Long is a cousin of my cousin, so by default we're related. She attended a family wedding.

Got Angela Bassett's autograph back in elementary school.

"Cheech" Marin , actor of the Cheech and Chong fame, recently Machete, and voice actor, is an alma mater of CSUN, which he gave a speech at. Got to met him.

Former NHLer Anson Carter. We lived on the same street growing up and he would kick everyone's ass at street hockey.

Nah, these guys ain't famous. Do you know Esteban...?
dude that's so sad. My mom said almost exactly the same thing.

She was like "Hey I just heard the most amazing new guitarist! You should see if you can go and study with him."
"Oh yeah? Who is it?"
"His name is Esteban."
"...."

Current national league MVP Joey Votto, Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford, and free agent (c'mon Jays, do it) starter Jeff Francis.

i'm good friends with a playboy playmate and a certain nerdy redhead with a famous webshow. i normally wouldn't post such things. but since it's anyone's guess about the first one and the second one you guys can probably figure out in a heartbeat i won't go any further.

Another awesome person I met ( not to spoil it, but this person was a twin sibling of an awesome/famous celebrity)

So yeah, this past summer I had a three month contract job in downtown TO, on my lunch breaks me and a colleague kept running to this blond lady around our building, I talked to her briefly once waiting in line at the local coffee shop near my work: We causally introduced ourselves to each other by our first names, then I kept running into her at the coffee shop, three four times a week.

One day during our conversation...She told me her father and her brother are in the "business"...I was like "Eh that's nice!" I didn't think much of it then but a month later... just After I moved on to a new location and job...My friend sends me an email with a link that has a picture of this same woman and I look closer.. she happens to be the twin sister of ... Kiefer Sutherland! Rachel Sutherland I was like Daaaaaammn!!

I was chit chatin with Jack Bauer's twin sister on weekly basis for like 2.5 months and I didn't even know it!! I was kinda pissed off! :D

Lots :) Lots that are turkish though. Footballers mostly. Weird to talk about it though...

The only ones I treat differently are some of the guys in Besiktas, because I'm a fan I can't help it.

Sean Connery. He's hilarious in person.
So, you are on a buddy buddy first name basis with Sean Connery?

really?

I smell bull shit.

Once again, no, 4th again, this is not about who yoU've met.
Its about who you could par with and even get to show up at a party.

RTFP. P? TY.

Smoke weed in high school with Mobb Deep at the High School of Art&Design. And I lived in the same neighborhood as Manny Ramirez.
Now we're getting somewhere.
I similarly hung out with Smiff & Wessun, though I did not partake. But I was just playing event director more than anything else. I don't even count this, except for that they called me a down ass white boy. Thanks fellas! I felt cool for a few hours.

I'm a Cincinnati guy so I've chilled with guys like Jason Dill, Alex Davis, Fred Gall, and a long time ago Anthony Pappalardo.
That's pretty sweet. The first skate video I got as a kid was Photosynthesis by Alien Workshop, Dill, Gall and Pappalardo were all in that vid.

Used to play CoD2 all the time on PC with Donnie Edwards. He played in the NFL for the Chargers and the Chiefs. I guess that's not really knowing him but I always thought it was cool.

I've also met a bunch and actually know a good few top-tier mountain climbers like Lou Whittaker, although they might not remember me now. It's been awhile.

I exchange emails and chat with some of the core SFX team from the movie Alien. One of them is thinking about shooting his next movie in Las Vegas and asked if I would be available to help.

Jon Sorensen
Dennis Lowe
Simon Deering

EDIT: if you count youtube famous I've (my atv) been recognized at every set of sands dunes I've gone too on the west side of the country. Glamis, Dumont, Pismo, Sand Mountain, St Anthony. That covers 4 states. Not bad.

@awesomeapproved: thanks for reminding posters that the guideline of the famous person "has to know your name and you could chat to them if you bumped into them on the street".

Its cool to hear about people you have met, but I am actually interested in people you know as a type of six degrees of separation type of thing.

If that poster actually knows Sean Connery, that is awesome and wins the thread so far. But if its only met them once, that is pretty lame. I have met the then Prime Minister of Australia, Paul Keating, and spoke to him but I don't know him.

Also someone posted that they haven't heard of anyone mentioned so far. I sort of agree. I was thinking that ultra famous people would have to have "regular" friends and some of them may post on neogaf. So far there has been some good nominees but none that would be known worldwide.

when I was young my dad and I met Bill Murray in an airport. My dad was wearing a fancy watch and bill made fun of it calling it a future watch or something. I was too young to remember (DAMMIT)

and my parents hung out with Billy Connolly for a night when they went on vacation, smoked cigars and whatnot.

I'm pretty sure Paul Rodriguez would only know me as Rosie's son.

I know Jake Thomas (actor, the little brother in Lizzie McGuire). :lol Work with him, actually. Pretty cool guy! Have some great stories about him, too.

I think that's the extent of famous people I know. I've met quite a few in my travels, but not many well enough to ask them to "come over to a party" or whatever your requirements are.
