Who else is plagued by an absolutely ridiculous name on PSN?

For some forsaken reason I thought I should have a different name on PSN than my usual username. It's not a ridiculous name, but it'd be nice if I could get my PSN (BioNet) consistent with my usual username.

As a developer, I'm guessing they don't allow this it's because Sony devs fucked up with their database design. I bet they are using PSN ids as unique identifiers instead of some numeric identity.

Yes, I think so. That is the number one rule in DB: the unique identifier should be separate from anything accessible to the end user.

It isn't hopeless, though. They can still convert their data.

Mine's Naruto related. Naruto. And I have no way to change it. It sucks.
My current go-to online handle everywhere else is nothing special, but I want my accounts to be unified in that regard.

Crdavis-1996-

....

Crdavis was somehow taken, 1996 alone looked dumb. So, dashes! Really though the whole name bugs me.

I use my first initial and last name, but my last name is obscure enough it actually looks like a random gamer handle. I even say it like it's initialed but most people pronounce it as one word.

I made a new account on PS4, and didn't really understand the UI as I was doing it, so I ended up using the suggested name, JohnnySomething.

I actually really like it though, it's kind of a perfect gamertag.

I've had my username (same as here) since '06. Glad I got in on claiming it so early.

My friend bought his PS3 on the Japanese launch day and his PSN ID is "Owned"
no numbers, no x's, no underscores, none of that shit

I guess him being American helped since most of the people who had PS3s then I'd assume used Japanese words or names for their IDs.

Also, he gets messages from people all the time asking to buy his account.

Also, I just remembered the screen name I made in 1998 or some shit when I got AOL
digipokemon96692
oh god those numbers don't even mean anything, I wasn't born in 92

kazuo_kiriyama aka boy 6 in battle royale...

I bought the console day 1 and could have chose any name....

Sigh

It's okay, we all have Skele7ons in our closet.

I've generally always picked simple 1-2 word names. I also hate adding numbers to names so if one is taken I'll modify it as needed. That said, I have a friend who thought it would be hilarious to give himself an ironically terrible name on League of Legends (or maybe it was Dota, I'm always mixing those up). It was full of Xs, letters replaced with numbers, random capitalization, the works. He realized after a few months of play that it wasn't actually that funny and that it was impossible for anyone to tell that it was a joke name, and instead they just thought he was an idiot.

PSN: Micheal_Bluth

I would be happier with my PlayStation, and more active in the PlayStation community if I got to change it. It's a combination of
1) It's misspelled
2) I now hate having a name with an underscore in it.

*sigh*

Same as my username on PSN, Xbox, and Steam. Used it so long that it just stuck with me.

Sony would have to assign new identifiers to the PSN ID, otherwise we're kinda stuck with it.

The only reason I don't want to create a new account is b/c of all the purchases I've made. Mine isn't awful, but I'm just sick of it at this point (theFLYINGPIGEON). I made it in my first year of college.

Thankfully I had the foresight to pick something reasonable when I got my PS3, but my XBL GT was not so lucky. One of these days I'll get around to paying Microsoft their $10 so I can get rid of DarkSerenity317

Been using Alexalder for a while now. I like it, it's simple and never taken. A german guy told me it looks like a pun but i can't get it, welp

My PSN is named after an obscure 80s rock star that I kinda liked 'ironically' back in the day. I thought it was witty until I found out he suffered from severe alcoholism and died of alcohol poisoning a year later. I don't even know if I should keep it out of respect or change it out of respect.

:(

I go by DirtMcGirt147, a name that I've had since I was 17. now as a 17 year old that is kind of cool, but as a 26 years old it feels a bit embarassing. idiot that I am I didn't think of it when creating my PSN account on the PS4 (I was all xbox before that) and just typed my old account name in. Later I realised that I can NEVER EVER change it. I'm stuck with this as long as I've got a playstation basically, which could be another 8-9 years for all we know. I'll be stuck with this name until I'm 33 or something which makes it even more embarassing.

My PSN is my full name; TiemenMeijer.

I intended to use just 'Tiemen' or 'TiemenM', but they were already taken, and instead of going Tiemen1994 or something stupid like x_Tiemen_x, I went with my full name. I don't really have an issue with this being my PSN, but if I could I'd try and shrink it down a bit by removing my last name and doing something else to differentiate me from other Tiemens.

Hey, we're PSN buddies and afaik I didn't add you through GAF.

I'm happy with my PSN name (reservebelg) but I like to change it to my GAF name.

Why don't you just make another account if you don't like your name? Friends/Trophies or what? I don't simply because everything I want is already taken and it frustrates me.

Sony doesn't let you change your name?

Edit: I know this wasn't the case way back but I could've sworn they fixed this.

As a developer, I'm guessing they don't allow this it's because Sony devs fucked up with their database design. I bet they are using PSN ids as unique identifiers instead of some numeric identity.

They've all but said exactly this. There is still solutions to this that doesn't require the whole system to be reworked. They could mask the id similar to battle net or steam. This would allow the original id/ unique identifier and not have to change the back system too much.

I use VDubSubClub because my brother's XBL name at the time was the same and I wanted us to remember them easier since we would totally be living together and sharing systems forever.

I don't even drive a Volkswagen!

Me. LORD-UT. The time when I chose it I was still actively competing in UT2004. It isn't that horrible, it's just not relevant anymore.

It's probably near impossible to secure a good gamertag without being forced to replace letters with numbers and/or add extra characters.
Unless your tag is something really unique.

Mine's Stulaw90 because Stulaw was apparently taken, but I use Stulaw/Stulaw90 on practically everything, except my Live gamertag which is StuartSL, I don't really like that.

Same name as here and every other forum, its friskykillface_

I'm more plagued by my Xbox live username, KILLERC0MB0, lol yup all caps and zeroes for O's

Smh younger me but I already used variations of friskykillface since MS used to give 1 month free for 5 accounts, the cheap life

I do like my PSN name. My only issue is, Fastest Finger sounds like it might be a boast about my gaming prowess, when it really isn't - it was actually a nickname from my ex. It looks pretty sad when it's at the bottom of a leaderboard.

Mine's Quorra like from Tron which I thought was pretty clever at the time when I made it back when I first got my PS3. I don't think it's too bad, I mean, at least I didn't have to put numbers or anything. I kind of like it because of that.

Ugh, I hate mine so much... I made it as a middle schooler/early high schooler, and wish I could change it. PSN id: YouGotReaped
wow such edge
much mature
I listened to a lot of Children of Bodom at the time.

I think I changed my XBL tag twice.

Undead Spaten was the first, the amount of spelling comments I got forced me to drop 800msp on it.
SgtFlibbles, named after the penguin puppet in Red Dwarf.

And then the tag i've been using on PSN and XBL for 4+ years, Hoaxs.

GT: Shandy706
Steam: Shandy706
PSN: Sabreanthor

Somehow Shandy706 was already taken on PSN. No idea how...as I've always been able to get that user name everywhere.
