Who is the biggest sellout?

Yeah moving from Barca to Real and vice versa is a big no-no.

Chumbawumba, (The band's anarchist politics exhibit an irreverent attitude toward authority, and the band has been forthright in its stances on issues including animal rights, pacifism (early in their career) and later regarding class struggle, feminism, gay liberation, pop culture and anti-fascism.) for this:

It's very good reason. Fuck people that think there's something wrong morally with deciding to change your career path.

"I don't believe in the concept because I think it's stupid" is the laziest explanation for believing, or not believing anything.

After further reading and consideration, Metallica.

Listening to their old stuff, where they go so hard (Battery, AJFA) to the nonsense they put out now, including Death Magnetic) really upsets me.

Seems they got super famous and lost their boners big time. And then they never got their boners back.

Of course they lost their boners.
They wanted to do this...

... and their fans kept whining for more thrash.

I'm gonna go with Gwen Stefani. I really can't think of any artist who sold out in such a blatant "I'm doing this for the money fuck everyone else" way.

edit:
American journalism after September 11, 2001. Embedded war journalists, political pundits, Twitter and press releases taken as facts.

This was happening waaaaay before 9/11. The Lewinski scanda or the Bush/Gore recountl being the most infamous examples.

i'll defend Metallica till I die. They pretty much do whatever they want, look at lulu. wasn't fan pressure to do it, they just did it because they wanted.

they made death magnetic because at the time of writing they where playing "Master of Puppets" in full at life shows. So it reminded jamyz and Lars of that time and wrote DM with that in mind. St. Anger was really band therapy, james was gone for a year and they wrote that album while making it and it sounds like a garage band because bob rock wanted that feel of hanging out and jamming. that's not typical speed metal, its just them doing whatever they want come hell or high water.

Chris Cornell:

After Audioslave, he recorded a solo album that was produced by Timbaland. It was so bad :(

At least Soundgarden is back.

It's not bad because Cornell has a great voice but damn, was that disappointing to hear after Audioslave.

Almost as crushing was Bush's single, Afterlife. If it was just some no-name indie band, I wouldn't mind the song as much but Bush... ugh.

Funny how I mentioned Kiss the other day and I go see Skyfall today and there they are in a long commercial about playing at kid's birthday parties. Such delicious timing.

Devo, when they created Devo 2.0
Devo%2020%20devo20.jpg

I never thought Devo was all about authenticity or something though. I don't know, I guess I figured it was always a bit tongue-in-cheek. I don't know what Devo 2.0 is, but it doesn't seem like that wild of a departure from Devo 1.0.

Same goes for that KISS mention earlier, I don't know that I can identify what soul they supposedly sold, ha-

Arianna Huffington.
She'll switch from conservative to liberal and vice versa in a heartbeat when there's money to be made.

Well, mostly she just switched from being conservative to liberal in accordance with the natural process of (most) people broadening their base of knowledge over time.

I get that you're in-character, but I thought I'd contribute anyway. I think it would be a mistake to label someone as a sellout when their sudden change in direction is caused by a genuine desire to persue that new direction as opposed to watering-down their message to appeal to a wider audience.

Yeah, I saw this too. Saw it in theaters and made a mental note: "Mention Kiss in the sellout thread", though plenty of people beat me to the punch.

Of course, there's always an argument to be made over whether Kiss ever had any legitimacy to sellout in the first place.

Well, you do like Load (I assume).

I love Load.

Haha. I like most of Load, it's kind of samey and I can totally see why people would be disappointed by it coming from The Black Album. But, lyrically I think it's some of Hetfield's best stuff. ReLoad I'm not as big of a fan of, though I really like some of the songs. Between the two, there could have been a really awesome CD (though it would have still been a little samey).

I don't get how they could possibly be viewed as sellout CDs. Black Album sells millions and millions and they choose to follow it up with a CD that sounds nothing like it. Sellouts. Cut their hair, sellouts. Shorten their songs, sellouts. Put a ballad on Ride the Lightning, sell outs.
