Then why do ppl keep saying it had weird controller arrangements? Did it use its two sticks like modern FPS do now? Left stick for forwards/backwards and strafing while right stick to look?

I love that game, played just the coop part with a friend. And I even think it was an all new coop-campaign, or was it?
Half-Life 1 and 2 should be played with a mouse and keyboard.
''Glorious''.

Yeah, remember Timesplitters was a launch title that use that setup, don't know why Halo gets the credit. Then why do ppl keep saying it had weird controller arrangements? Did it use its two sticks like modern FPS do now? Left stick for forwards/backwards and strafing while right stick to look?

I'm planning on finding a copy with a cheap mouse and keyboard when I get another ps2. Some weird glitch prevented me from beating the final boss on the PC version years ago.
LMAO that's a good picture to show the state of gaming during the PS1 era. Now twin stick FPS is standard but back then you couldn't even find a game that she's the right stick, let alone one that used both primarily!
That setup is still terrifying to some people

AmenThey should be enjoyed in anyway you are able to, and if that means a controller then so be it.
Amazing.
that's why ps2 version has keyboard and mouse support

Shame HL hasn't been brought to more recent consoles. It's always 2 onwards.
would absolutely buy and replay this on ps4 if they made it available
Wait a sec, there were PSOne games that utilized both analog sticks besides Ape Escape?
I actually bought thisabomination. Can't really remember the performance being too bad. . . . I was just so desperate to experience it and had no gaming PC. Felt bad.
Seriously: how did HL1 on PS2 controlled? I never played it and it's interesting to know how an FPS on a standardized twin stick console controlled in that strange time between Goldeneye but before Halo.
Good one.Doom 3 PvP on Xbox was pretty cool if I remember correctly. My cousin and I use to silently hide in a dark corner and rev our chainsaws the second someone passed by. Pants were shat.
Hah, yeah I remember that and the Doom 3 Xbox port. Hell they even ported CS Condition Zero! Weird times... those games really didn't work very well on console at the time.

I had a "gaming" Macintosh (Quake III alpha oh yes), Dreamcast, and N64 when Half Life first came out, so this was the first time I got to play, luckily I knew to use a mouse and keyboard with it. It was a great experience, enough that I finally bought a gaming PC for Half Life 2. But as impressive as its engine and atmosphere as were at the time, Half Life 1's level design and AI have overall made it the experience which has aged better.
Just buy it on PC, I guarantee whatever PC you have can max it
