why are there exposed boobs in Digimon now

For some people the whole point of clothes is to look cool, simple as that.

Certainly. I'm sure if it was "cool" to wear a ripped-open shirt with your boobs flapping in the wind, there would be kids right now doing it.

But is the character in question trying to be "cool"? Probably not, I expect - they probably never even call attention to her outfit. I suppose that's the disconnect they force you to accept - that people would wear clothes obviously intended to render them "cool" or "sexy" and yet be oblivious to their coolness or sexiness. It's what I call the "Sharla Complex", wearing clothes not because of your personality, but because "why the fuck not sex appeal."

In any case, yeah, let's not pretend Pokemon is exactly innocent of this complex.

then why not ?

That character is a woman, not a child

Yeah, i usually do that, to get a sense for anatomy and proportions.
It's not like you go in detail with the anatomy, but having the figure outlined before you draw the clothes is nothing strange.

I mean you also draw a bald head before drawing hair or a hat, just to get a sense of size and such.

I should have been more clear. I meant that it wouldn't surprise me if he drew every little anatomic detail on her before adding the clothes :P

Why can't people face the facts that different cultures have different sets of principles and morality? Europe is not nearly as high strung as the USA and its not that all of Europe are pervs they just don't think of things in the same way.

so quit trying to police the world please.

Then why can't people face the fact that different cultures will judge/critique others based on their own?

*50 reasons why when Pokemon does it, it doesn't count*

You're lying to yourself if you think little boy children (and who knows, maybe girl children, too) don't like boobs in their entertainment. My bigger issue is just how impractical the clothing is - I mean, isn't the whole point of a shirt to cover your top half, for protection and whatnot?

I suppose the lack of blood and actual violence in such shows (that is, the ability to actually damage the cleavage, with like teeth or something) renders that a moot point, though.

Eh, I feel like if they were wearing some type of armor it would be weird to leave her chest exposed (even though that's what usually happens). As it is, a shirt won't protect you from claws or fangs, and I suppose the Digimon do all the fighting so they don't have to worry about it in the first place.

I feel like this whole conversation is pretty weird. It's obvious that Japan just has different values about what is appropriate in media primarily aimed at children: prominent breasts that are still mostly covered is okay. You might not have noticed it when you were watching Sailor Moon or whatever fifteen years ago, but it was likely there at the time (or else edited out when it aired on TV :p).

To be completely honest there's a big difference between these:

and this:

the first ones have the sweatshirt normally open, while the digimon character has it unusually closed at the beginning and at the end leaving it open just to show the boobs, if it was completely, but "normally", open it would have been better imo.
The problem here is not the design itself, but the intention.
While a girl can stay with a zip open with no sexual intent(but being sexy anyway), here the sexual intent is clear.

i still say shoutmon should have been his partner

It'd be overkill.

My real question about all this is will this game be any good? Trailer was impressive but then I remembered all the other digimon games I've tried.

As for the artwork and boobs.
Love the guys artwork as soon as I saw the OP I new it looked familiar. Now for the boobs well however he wanted to draw that character so be it. It seems kinda odd but at the same time doesn't bother me if I were to play the game.

Digimon World RE:Digitize is essentially following the footsteps of Digimon World 1, so it's good.

why draw the line at other cultures? why police anyone at all?

Really GAF this many pages...

Say you were 8 when Digimon hit TV, you'd be 22 now. Therefore tits, your little podling won't notice or care and it's some for you to gawk at while watching.

kids wont even notice or care about that.

My elementary and middle school students love shit like this. They're all about the fanservice. Hahahaha. It blew me my mind more than it probably should have. Oh yeah, they're kids going into puberty and shit.

The weekly manga magazines have spreads for gravure idols in bikinis and stuff. The pre-teen/teen demographic eats that shit up. It's even better when you catch them reading it outside of school and they have a minor panic attack, expecting you to get mad or something.

---

Really, the problem with that design isn't the emphasizing of the breasts so much as the overall ugliness of the costume.

Why are her legs like that? I always see animu kids with like weird pointing in knees. Do they have poorly developed legs or suffer from a disease?

Another quality thread we got here....

this is bannable, fyi, but thanks for the insightful criticism

and again for anyone saying im being all police here or generating an "outrage": check the OP again, im just saying im surprised the series took this kind of shift or that they'd do something this blatant on something aimed at kids that looked nothing like this when I was in the age of the target audience. I think it was interesting and worth pointing out.

Their fans grew up and they are adapting, something that Nintendo should do

LOL

First post is right on the money. Nintendo turned their backs on us young adults.

then why not ?

I probably should have put this in an earlier post but in context I actually find that costume much more objectionable. Not because of the costume itself, which is fine as fan service, but because we only see her once in that costume in the main game, and that is while she's being killed.

NO. Look what happened to a lot of great franchises because they tried to listen or to adapt to their audience (Sonic for example).

I personally think that listening to what people are asking (especially on Internet) is in the vast majority the stupidest move a dev / editor could do. And I don't even know how they could do that because on this particular forum it may be difficult to find what people really wants globally and what your fanbase wants.

Regarding Nintendo a lot of people are asking a lot of things but a lot of these people don't even like Nintendo games. Asking them for making big changes in their strategy just to have more 3rd party support or more fancy graphics could end up being very counterproductive because once every system will be the same and once Nintendo games aren't even the best selling games on their own system they'll just be in a very dangerous position. Way more dangerous than having a smaller market share but with a very strong fanbase and very profitabel games.

Sorry for the little off topic but I really really don't understand what and why some people are trying to say or discuss while it's so easy just to enjoy the games you like on the system you like and not bashing like you have all the answers hundreds of experts and specialized people don't have.

Having everyone's advice / opinion is a very good thing to discuss but seeing always the same things almost in every Nintendo thread (and in this one even when it's not a Nintendo thread) is boring. Ok we got it : Nintendo is taking all the bad choices and they're doomed.
Me and all the gamers who enjoy their games are just going to enjoy the games till they close (should've happened already a lot of times hearing the Nostradamus we have here).

Ps : it's not directly targeted at you PorygonVandal, I just took the opportunity to make my last post about this. I'm going to read NeoGAF without participating to these types of discussions.

I think they allowed that design because kids like breasts. Digimon is targeted at tween boys right? If so that's when most kids get their first big hormone rush. Boobs+monsters = sales.

Younger kids find boobs hilarious. My 8 year old daughter is as I speak calling her brother a blue footed boobie (she found it in a book on birds).

Popped in just to confirm that people attack critique of the design as "being prudish" or "ashamed of breasts" or any other thing, or my absolute favourite - downplaying the sexual nature of exposing breasts (eg. "Don't get worked up about them - they're just protein bags! You some virgin who never touched a pair before?")

My expectations were met.

Happy to hear that. Titties are pretty nice.
