Why can't Capcom make a next gen Megaman game with these graphics ?

You want adult Megaman ?

Vanquish?

There are plenty of adults and children who play COD, and Pokemon. Tons of teens and such are into COD of course, and many going through that insecure 'I can't be seen playing that' phase, but still, I know tons of adults who play COD and less, but still a lot who enjoy Pokemon. Children, well I can only go by the people I know with kids, but it seems like the pre 10 era prefers Nintendo and then the insecure teen (boy) era prefers the 'i'm growing up see? BANG BANG' stuff, and sometimes they never grow out of it.

Also, to the person who was asking about MM8 sales data, I was mostly going by the fact it not only became a greatest hits release, but that it seems like most of the ones circulating are also the GH release. Though I admittedly forgot the threshold requirement for that prior to the ps2 era, so I might be mistaken.

Still, it's not the reason Rockman & Forte didn't release here, the same fate occurred to it that almost happened with MM6 (but Nintendo published it for us, thanks Nintendo!). Releasing a Snes title (that was originally a DL game right? On the Satelite thing) after the series had already moved to new generation consoles would be a bit odd. I do however think it was absolutely insane of Capcom to not redo MM8 and the X series to make them fit on the N64. I'm sure if MM8 had hit the n64 with removed voice samples and no Anime scenes it would actually be considered the definitive version today, but maybe the game couldn't run on N64 HW at the same level? Not really sure how N64 would handle the 2d sprites.

Rockman and Forte was a straight cartridge release, no Satellaview involved. The Super Famicom was still popular at the time with the younger crowd, and since MM8 failed to light the world on fire they targeted kids who might not have upgraded yet. Nintendo released a few very late in life SNES titles like Kirby's Dream Land 3 and DKC3, so it's not like there wasn't precedent.

And the N64 could've certainly handled the game, but they probably didn't want to have to cut out the voice and FMV to fit on a smaller cartridge. There were plenty of 2D games for the system.

Because they hate us and NT wasn't available. Or Spark Unlimited.
But seriously. I think they don't know what to do with the franchise anymore and all the people that could have done something either left or are locked in some office.

As a DMC fan, I advise you all to pray that they keep doing nothing with the franchise, because the alternative is offensive.

Hi, I'm 36 and I'd rather play Nintendo games than CoD. This is also circumstantial.

Until someone does a demographics study, it's all hearsay. Neither side of the argument is right.

I was never arguing that adults play Nintendo games.

Just the idea of a side-scrolling Mega Man with the same character model as the one in Super Smash Bros. U is more than enough for me to put my money on the table.

Sadly, I doubt it will ever happen, at least with the same level of quality that has seemingly gone into SSBU design. Seriously, it looks like they ripped him straight out of the NES [his poses and reactions couldn't be more accurate].

That is saddening. If Wikipedia is true.. There hasn't been a Megaman game since 2010. Man, this Megaman looks awesome in 3D/FMV.

Hopefully this sparks up interest in Megaman again tho :D

He easily had the best trailer of the three so far for Smash Wii.

They are too busy making dudebro Call of Duty ripoffs of all their franchises.

Which is probably the same thing that would happen to Megaman if they brought him back.

Can anyone here imagine the terror of a dudebro CoD-inspired Megaman game?

Ratchet & Clank/Mario Galaxy in the Megaman universe is something I can get behind. I originally liked R&C because it reminded me so much of what a 3D Megaman title would be like if I had my way.

What the hell is this? Did someone want to turn mega man into a generic crysis looking robot soldier, or is it a joke, or what? What the hell is going on?
This is concept art from an Armature Studios prototype for a Megaman X FPS that didn't get greenlit. It had the same mechanical designer as the recent Iron Man movies. It wasn't a joke, but probably isn't going to ever actually be made.

Because it would sell 300k and be considered a commercial failure due to the amount of real Mega Man fans left. Maybe the first could do alright but for some reason fans seem to bail out on the MM series quick these days.

Then why not make a properly budgeted 1 off game? Why does Mega Man need a AAA series release. Make a decent side scroller with nice graphics and interesting platforming/shooting/boss fights. Its not difficult.

With an arcade budget, you'll end up with graphics more similar to Ducktales: Remastered than the new Super Smash Bros. If you're cool with that...I can't think of any reason why Capcom will put out a Ducktales game and not a Mega Man game.

Ironically, wouldn't an exclusive screw over Mega Man? The Wii U isn't exactly the hottest product right now or perhaps the future.
Being a big fish in a little pond can do wonders for a limited franchise with a dedicated audience. Mega Man tended to sell better on Gamecube than PS2 in the US for example, despite having like a fourth the userbase. See also: Viewtiful Joe, Tales of, Harvest Moon, Soulcalibur, Monkey Ball, etc.

Make it a multiplatform title, downloadable. 720p on WiiU/PS3/360, 1080p on PS4/XBONE/PC. 2D/2.5D with a preference towards 2D but I could see 2.5D being cheaper to make. Skip the 8bit stuff. While cool. I think that made the title too niche and narrowed the appeal of the game. I think you could make a game that looks great and wouldn't break the bank to make.

I always figured that XBL and PSN would spur on more smaller downloadable titles where the publishers could revive those old side scrollers and R-Type/Gradius shooters with a new coat of paint and sell them on these digital download services without having to put up tens of millions of dollars. That hasn't happened the way I wanted. We got some rehashes like Bionic Commando which by all accounts sold well enough but I don't think that title had the appeal of so many other options like Contra, R-Type, Gradius, and Mega Man at least for me.

Yes, I have always felt that Rare's N64 game Jet Force Gemini was their attempt to create a Mega Man style game in a 3D world and Insomniac did the same on the PS2 with their Ratchet & Clank series.

All of these three developers could create a great 3D Mega Man game:

- Insomniac Games, 3D Mega Man influenced by Ratchet & Clank

- Nintendo EAD Tokyo, 3D Mega Man influenced by Super Mario Galaxy

- Platinum Games, 3D Mega Man directed by Hideki Kamiya

The correct thread title is: "Why can't Capcom make a next gen Megaman game with these graphics ?"

New Megaman, Wii U exclusive, would sell at least five million copies. It's the sort of broad appeal, disruptive game in an underrepresented genre.

Instead, it would be a $20 DLC only PSN/XBL game with no confidence behind it.

How much did the GBA titles sell?

After 10 fun games in the classic style, I don't know where they should go next.

I don't really like the X games. Too much exploration and finding power-ups for my taste.

If they can think of an interesting place to take MegaMan, they should. But if not, just let him be.

Add some bah bah's to the music and you've got yourself a multimillion seller on your hands.

I'm up for some techno BAH BAH

Capcom should just blatantly rip off Nintendo's idea with New Super Mario Bros. The NSMB brought Mario to a whole new audience because it hit on nostalgia for people who haven't played a Mario game since the NES days. Everything was familiar, however the levels were well-designed, there were some new features that made Mario even better to play in 2D (wall jumping etc.), and it was just easy to pick up and play. It was addicting for Mario fans, and simple fun for new players.

Capcom could make a New Mega Man franchise, using 2.5D, with clean looking graphics in the style of SSB4's Mega Man. Put a lot of the classic enemies in there for the old gamers, and throw in some new stuff as well. Mega Man could be more agile as Mario became. Instead of longer, singular levels, have each level shorter akin to Mario but keep the overall theme of whatever boss. Then on the last stage, you fight the boss and get its power. They could keep the "make your own path" angle as well, but maybe have some hints to help the player guide in the more logical path. Also if the levels were broken up, you could play a little bit of each world to see which one you like the best. Taking the enemies' powers would still be important, and to encourage replayability, the levels have some special areas or features that can only be accessed by using a certain power. This way you have a lot of secrets in each level such as multiple routes or even secret bosses and levels, which will keep people playing.

They could also throw in a multiplayer mode as well similar to NSMB. They could keep the chaotic randomness of NSMB by turning on friendly fire and having the Mega Men bump into each other. Or they could kinda do a Rayman route where each character has their own unique powers (Mega Man, Roll, Proto Man etc.).

You're probably thinking, "that's not Mega Man, that's just NSMB starring Mega Man." I think to separate themselves they still need to have the action focus and the power-switching mechanic, but also implement a lot of the things that would make a Mega Man game something kids can play, but older gamers would also want to tackle as well.

They can.

They just don't want to.

I fully agree with this statement. I'm sure Capcom could make any Megaman they wanted to, from a cute 2.5D action platformer to a vibrant and colorful (third-person) shooter. They just don't seem to want to take Megaman into any of these directions currently, perhaps because he has lost his appeal in their eyes (due to their own mismanagement I would argue) or perhaps because they are wating for even better opportunities to reboot the series.

I, for one, am happy to see classic Megaman in action again in a game that really fits his aesthetics and heritage. If this turns out to be his final appearance, that would certainly be a shame, but at least he would have gotten a nice museum to reside in.

Also, who knows what will happen if Smash Brothers takes off again and it becomes a powerful stage for Megaman to shine on? (Though let's forget for a moment that this could be considered a double-edged sword: if the game fails or he becomes a hated character due to being over- or under-powered, this might kill him off entirely...)

Give that Mega Man model to Retro Studios, let them make the Mega Man version of Donkey Kong Country Returns, pay Capcom some licensing money, rejoice in the rebirth of Mega Man.

I mean, I'm not even a fan of Mega Man, and I feel bad for its fans.

We'd still have people complaining that Retro are doing another 2D platformer, no matter how great it could be :(

Finally, a game that makes me want the WiiU. Though, I already own the 3DS. I will probably double dip. Now I will double dip.

I'd much prefer them to create a new Mega Man X. I enjoyed the speed more in those. Bump up the number of bosses to increase playtime, and of course hidden capsules and power ups and I'm in.
