Why can't I delete achievements & trophies?

Same with Wipeout. So stupid.

Now my biggest problem with them is the inability to delete the achievements. This both prevents the fun of earning them again (thus lowering the enjoyment of replaying) and it also means for the people who are into achievements but like to try out games, they have a bunch of games listed with only a couple achievements.

Ummm why don'tcha just do whatever all the requirements for them again on the next play through? Just cause ya earned them already doesn't mean ya can't do all those crazy required things all over again.

Probably to be like a "wall of shame". So if you played a crappy game enough to earn an achievement it shows. Though games like The Simpsons and Deathsmiles even gives achievements for pressing start. :lol :lol

Diner Dash on the 360 literally gives you points just for purchasing the game. :lol

Why are these things called achievements again? :lol

I don't know about others but if my 55 platinums got erased by someone "deleting" them, they will feel the fury of my rage as I take their soul...not joking

I dread the day the allow you to delete trophies/achieves, someone can really be a douchebag and delete a WarHawk or White Knight Chronicles platinum off some someones list...watch the 187 afterward on the news

I agree on some accounts, but not being able to delete certain things hurts me. I have a bunch of games without trophies. At least you can delete the games on the 360 if you don't have any achievement. Sony don't allow nothing.

As you can see by my ranking I'm 611, so there's 610 gamers with better trophy count

I mean 55 platinums = 86,000+ Gamer Score, not that much

Trophies are only 2 years old, achievements have been around for 5+ years
That's crazy... but awesome. Great job! :)

I don't think I have a single platinum or 1000/1000.

(EDIT: Oh wait, I have a 200/200 for Shadow Complex.)

I have always wanted this too, mainly because of renting games that I don't end up buying. I like to have achievements for games I own, not games I try.

Wow, that's a lot! I just got my 9th platinum last night.

Yeah. It's unfortunate that they don't let you. You should be able to decide what things go in your trophy case. Just because some stranger gave me some garbage doesn't mean I want it on display for the whole world to see.

Actually, the real problem might just be that things that you don't care about end up being displayed in there. If there were just a trophy closet, and you could pick ones out of it to put in your main display area, that might solve most of the annoyance with trophies you don't care about.

Some of you guys having Super Stardust HD and not buying it need to fix that. NOW.

*mumble grumble stupid Shock and Awe and Late Boomer mumble grumble*

how many games do you have that you didn't platinum ?

Of course they don't allow you to delete them. They need you to go out and buy new games whenever you feel the need for the thrill of getting more achievements/trophies.

This thread has proven that I'm completely out of touch with all of you.

I like the occasional interesting achievement but holy shit, hearing that someone actually bought a game just because it added an permanent trophy listing is certifiably insane.

I like how they are strict, it's a record of your gaming on said console, at least on the 360 microsoft took away the stupid demo's recording to your tag thing.

I honestly don't know how to respond to this without soundling like a total ass so I'll let epmode do it for me:

I've never had any interest in getting all the trophies in a Playstaion game. Especially in single player games. It would be kind of cool if you could hide certain achievements if you only got one or two of them for a single game but then again, who cares?

It enables me to see which games people frequently start but never finish.

Your 5G in a bad game helps keep your friends away from the rubbish.

Not sure what you're loling at. Yeah there are some idiotic achievements out there like get 9000 random orbs or turn the game on, but there are also trophies that challenge you to try new difficulties, try new modes, or simply try to tackle the game in a different way. They're no different than the perfect runs, level 1 runs, speed runs, whatever runs people have done with games before this generation - except now you get a bit of text that records the fact you did it.

A game like the new Lara Croft game is a perfect example. You'll get some of the trophies for just enjoying the game, then you'll get some more for playing it co-op (a completely different experience) and then you'll get some for perfecting the game and all its challenges. You don't miss out on anything if you simply play and complete the game, but trophies can be an incentive to do something you might not have before and sometimes double or even triple the amount of time you play/enjoy a game. The trophies in that game made a wonderful single player game into a FANTASTIC co-op game because it made me actually invite a friend over to check it out.

I looked through my trophy list recently looking for something to play in my off-time, and saw I hadn't gotten the Resistance 2 level 30 co-op trophy. Remembering how much I enjoyed R2's co-op mode, I popped it in and worked at it. Boom, 2 years after release and I'm still enjoying their game all thanks to a little trophy. That's getting your money's worth.

Achievements/trophies are great when done right. Not everyone who likes them are raging nerds or OCD and have to 100% every game. Some of us just like getting the most content we can for our money. Buying Uncharted 2, running through it once, and shelving it might be how someone enjoyed it, but for me I want to see everything ND put in the game - co-op, multiplayer, crushing mode. Even if I end up not liking that stuff (I didn't platinum U2 since I don't like the kill xx enemies with xx weapon trophies), having a little push from the back from achievements is NOT a bad thing.

edit: Sorry for being a little off-topic. I agree I wish we could clean up our lists a bit since I have games like NBA Live or Madden on my list from friends bringing it over and playing it. I don't mind the 0-1% stuff, I just don't like having games I don't actually own on my list.

They advertise the games you play to other players.
Developers use achievement information to gauge what the player base did and did not do in their games.

And yes, if I could delete trophies and achievements I would in a heartbeat.

They should let you delete games that you've got under 20% of the achievements in or something. That would cover those games that you play for 10 minutes and get an achievement or two but never touch again.

When deleting it, should remove your points too rather than just the record of it. That way people can't rent shit like Avatar for the easy points and try to cover it up.

And this should only be available on Xbox.com or something so jerk brothers can't erase your stuff.

It would be nice. They probably don't do it because of assholes/friends deleting entire collections, thus having to deal with angry customer calls.

Can the thread be about this now? Achievements have made some gamers into sick sick people.

Because there's a chance that you keep playing them if you've only got 1 achievement without the option to delete it. And thus you may renew your xbox live gold membership or buy some DLC. So basically, it's about the money.

C-RAZY.

My guess would be to avoid the pissed off sibling or gf rage deleting. If someone deleted all your progress trophy whores would go mental.

Although I Would like to get rid of some of those stupid 1% games!

You know there would be a real easy solution to prevent stupid friend from pulling a shitty "joke" and deleting achievements/trophies: Failsafe password.

There are six games on my PSN profile for which I have 0% of the trophies. I'd like those to go away.

If I wanted to re-earn trophies I already unlocked, I would use one of my alternate PSNIDs. You don't need Xbox Live Gold to earn Achievements, do you?

I'm proud to have this guy on my flist. The hardest core gamer I know right now. I have 1 plat in comparison :( (working on bayonetta, I should get back to that, almost there).

This gen showed me how much I really suck at games. I used to be a gaming god in my small town, darn internet!

on a related note, what if you're a gold member then you let your account expire into silver status? Do your achievements go away?
No. That would be silly...Even for Microsoft.

I asked this question to Major Nelson at his panel at PAX East 2010. Dude said they have no plans to ever introduce that feature because of the aforementioned reason of friends/assholes deleting achievements from other people's systems.

I'd love to get rid of Guitar Hero 3, that game is a piece of shit.

They should add a rule that activates your earnes trophies/achievements only after a certain amount of hours in games or until you complete them. Games that are story-driven or have a campaign mode of some sorts should only activate trophies once you've finished it. But they should have a 20 hour limit before the trophy/achievement activates, so that you aren't forced to play through the main storyline in games like Oblivion, GTA or other stuff like that to get them activated.

Games that aren't really level-based or story-driven (like sports games) should only unlock trophies after a certain amount of time spent on it.

That, or they should give you the option to activate trophies or not (at any point in the game), but once you do, the save is locked to your account and you will no be able to undo this activation. In this case, the accumulated achievements/trophies for the game should be instantly activated.

There's always a super-quick achievement you earn in the first few minutes of gameplay to help lock you down into playing the rest of the damn game.

The only game that didn't do it was Perfect Dark Zero, and I have never been more grateful because it let me delete that flaming sack of shit from my played list.

if you could delete them we'd see so many youtube meltdown videos where a family member/roommate came in and deleted people's achievements. especially those achievements that can take over 100 hours to earn.

I have re-iterate how horrible that is.

I wish you could delete 0% trophy scores on PS3, that Stardust HD one is very annoying lol

As for my list, I have 22 Platinums at the moment and should hopefully have my Assassins Creed: brotherhood one any time now (about to get to Level 50 but need AeotM). I do have some that I could easily go back and get but its just finding the time which is hard considering there are always great games coming out.

Curse you Crash of Titans with your stupid 5gs, forever staining my precious completion percentage of 83.5% with over 200.000 gs =(

Not to mention Guitar Hero games, a type of game I discovered too late that I have no ability at all to play.

I see people say they're slightly OCD. Hell, I'm the OCD definition when it comes to achievements.

And since everyone is telling how many platinums they have, I'm at 134 retail games completed and 22 live arcade games completed.

I was all geared up to hurl some insults towards Tabris, then I saw that I already did it a couple months ago.

What a letdown. :(

More games should do that. Hell, let us earn some trophies in the demo.

1. would make more people play demos
2. would make more people buy games

I like achievements/trophies because I'm able to track the games I beat. It's not about the score for me. Nevertheless: I'd like to delete some gaming history from my PSN/XBL accounts.

I just wish i could delete infinite undiscovery and star ocean

Damn you Square enix DAMN YOU!

I have 63000 gamerscore (25 completed) and 14 or so platinums on ps3 so i wouldnt really like it if you anyone could just delete them delete them

just the shitty 1 percents and stuff

Bayonetta 1000/1000 and platinum <3

I would love to hide the 10G shame that shows people I invested time into Onechanbara. My "I thought it was a hidden gem like EDF 2017" doesn't really fool anyone :(
