Why do anime cons always smell bad?

Any enthusiast hobby convention is going to have smelly people. If the location has poor ventilation or not much open space it's just going to make it that worse.
 
It's just because they're too lazy to. I make sure to shower routinely at any big convention (like Comic Con last year) in part because I don't want to smell like a pile of shit. Well, and because I usually go as media so I don't want to make my press contacts pass out.

To be honest, that's one of the worst aspect of most conferences. The pervasive stink of cologne in the air. Ick.

Why do you need to wear it?

I can't decide if that's worse, or if BO is worse.

None of the local tournaments I went to in the past have ever smelled bad. And on the off-chance someone did walk into the venue smelling like the south end of a north-bound skunk, they got kicked out. I've also been to EVO twice, and never encountered funk of any kind. The closest thing was probably the "EVOla Virus" where people claimed to have gotten sick a few days after the tournament, but I figured those were just hypochondriacs.

On the subject of anime cons, I've been to Fanime and AX a few times, and never smelled anything remotely rancid. I probably was lucky though; my nose tends to auto-shut off if there's a foul odor in the air.

um it's not what you at the con it's what you do outside of the con. I've been going to Otakon for the last five years, I still haven't gone to a panel yet. But i have gone to most of Baltimore's gentlemen establishments and fine restaurants.

not really, no. if you showered with some soap and water before the event, you should be fine all day. unless you just have a naturally odd body smell that soap and water can't conquer.

Hell no I dont think a bunch of grown ass men would be fine all day if they just used soap and water..thats prolly what the OP is experiencing.

Aren't most Anime fans fairly young? Meh, you get a pass on bad hygiene, being fat, having fucked up teeth, etc. until you turn 20. After that you gotta get your shit in order.

Oh yeah, I went to Comic-Con once. That was the first and last time I'm ever going to a convention.

uh...unless they're exercising, they should be just fine. is there a reason to sweat at a convention such that you'd need a second shower before the day is over?

what the OP experienced is a bunch of mothafuckas that don't bathe properly.

HAHA.

I didn't think about that at all. I dunno...I've been to some nerdy-ass conferences. I was on the Executive Board of the largest student-run organization in the world (NSBE, an Engineering society) and our annual conferences drew north of 8,000 engineering students. I don't think anyone would say that there weren't plenty of nerds there. I'd guess maybe 70% of the attendees were men...and there wasn't a hint of funk with a full day of walking, meetings, parties and events.

Same reason any of type of con smells bad? hundreds or thousands in a fairly small place is not going to smell that well.

All that body heat, people sweating etc. This whole idea that if you like games or comics or anime means you have no sense of hygiene is just ignorant, do some? sure.. so do some sports fans, some do some car fans.. point? who the fuck cares.

Yup. I went one night to check it out, and the room was full of guys and gals. In fact, one girl was complaining because it wasn't girl-girl. I don't mean "aw man" type of complaining, I'm talking "what the fuck is this shit, why is this not yuri" and generally being loud for the sake of being loud. Fucking hilarious.

I went to Megacon in Orlando a few times and only once did I even run into a single smelly dude. He smelled TERRIBLE, though.
