Are anime nerds the lowest nerd on the nerd totem pole? Video game nerds are obviously at the top because that's where we all are and because it's hip to play Minecraft and enjoy pac man, but being an anime fan is basically throwing any cool you have away.
I guess D&D nerds are pretty low too, but at least they don't have imaginary girlfriends.

I would place My Little Pony nerds below them. Full grown men who watch baby ponies fuck around on screen for a half hour is infinitely worse than watching half naked girls fuck around for a half hour.
I think furries are the lowest, then anime.

I played a campaign with a bunch of my friends. We didn't take it too seriously (we named characters whatever without staying in the time period or whatever, and didn't "stay in character"), and it was a blast.

The coolest nerds are the sports nerds. Why do you think they sticky the sports threads at the top of OT? They could just as easily sticky the seasonal Anime thread, or God help us, the My Little Pony thread, but they don't. I'm sure you're thinking, "this esquire dude is so full of shit..." but it's worth thinking about.

1. All of those, excluding lecture halls, usually do smell bad for their own reasons.
2. People usually aren't physically active in the areas you listed. They aren't hiking/running around/goofing off like in a convention.

Yup, it's been abolished altogether. There is absolutely no hentai to be found on the internet whatsoever.
it should be mandatory that con attendees:
-shower with soap and shampoo
-brush teeth and use mouthwash
-apply deodorant
-carry a sweat towel
-all these must be done on the day of the con before entering
this wont help the fact that everyone feels free to pass gas at will while walking around but at least it would reduce the stench.

Can't remember 100% but I thinksomeone here confirmed they're all ill and one of these dudes is their carer.
I've only been to one in London (Excel MCM Expo) and it was alright for the most part. Me and my friend then went to a private screening of Street Fighter Alpha Generations. Came in a bit late but the second I sat down........holy fuck. The worst smell ever had hit my nose. You could tell the presenter girl caught a whiff of it because she was talking like someone who'd blocked their nose. I got out of there 30 seconds after. Movie was pretty shit so i've heard.
I may be a forum nerd but I don't smell horrible and attend stupid cons with those horrible pillow hugging KAWAII DESU spoutin, hentai watchin freaks.

let's be honest, the OPs suggestion of everyone wearing cologne wouldn't solve the 'smelling bad' problem. It's not even because of the type of people, but odds are that like most people, they won't know how to effectively wear cologne and it'd end up being more offensive smelling than a freshly fertilized farm.

I've attended martial arts competitions and wrestling competitions where dudes are sweating profusely after their matches. The smell at those competitions is not even close - NOT EVEN CLOSE to the funk I took it when I was at Comic Con.

Some of the smelliest people I have smelled were in Tokyo... some of these Asian dudes think they don't need to wear deodorant because "they don't sweat as much as Westerners" are dead fing wrong.

Well at least the stereotype that all video game fans are just out of shape, awkward, stanky guys isnt as prevalent these days. Not sure why some people think its ok to go to a public gathering or store and smell like that though. I mean if you're capable of dropping 80+ on a limited edition something or other, you've got the financial means to smell/look presentable.

Eh.. I went to ACEN several years back. It wasn't smelly nor did the people I hung out with were that bad at all. However, I hung out mostly with the fighting game people, who were pretty dudebro for the most part. The friend I went with went to other areas of the convention and got wildly different experiences, especially when he briefly decided to attend a late-night rave they were doing.
As for the after hour hentai rooms, I did hear that they were doing that. In addition, they were seemingly going to do some kind of dating/hook-up thing there, but there was a big problem with 21+ males getting paired with underage females.
I also witnessed many a fat Cammy/Sailor Moon/Sakura from Naruto cosplayers across both sexes.
The only case that I can remember where there was a serious B.O. funk was going to the Wii launch because roommate 1 reserved it and roommate 2 actually worked at GameStop at the midnight release for it. That was probably the most overpowering bad smell I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. I was seriously about to faint.
