Why Firefox performs so badly? It's literally worse than IE

Have they fixed the way gif's run on Chrome yet?

Yep it is fixed while ago, I moved to 64bit.

While ago, Chrome webpage won't auto link to 64bit download if 64bit OS.. That's why so many people still on 32 bit Chrome hence lot of people have GIF problem.

Hmm, maybe it's time to go back.
Chrome is the best browser

Try setting these to "true" in about:config if you haven't done so already

gfx.vsync.compositor
gfx.vsync.hw-vsync.enabled
gfx.vsync.refreshdriver

As for twitch chat, Chatty works well but requires Java.

Have you given Pale Moon a try?
Pure magic.
Thanks a lot, seriously, that's awesome.

I use Waterfox, which is supposed to be better than standard Firefox for 64-bit systems. The only complaint I have is that it slows down if I leave it running for a few days, but nothing that a restart won't fix.

As a general thing I like to try to use open source software when the alternatives are not vastly better, and as far as I can tell all browsers have annoyances. My issues with Chrome are mostly about privacy, but also the fact that their android browser is a mess when it comes to UI.

Hm, works fine for me, using the developer edition at work and the plain old normal Firefox at home. Although i don't have many Add-ons installed/active.

But the mobile version for Android is a performance, resources (RAM!!!!) and battery hog to no extend .... but so is Chrome... need to find a new mobile browser.

These did nothing for me, but that might because I'm a G-Sync man.

IE seems to be the most stable right now. Whether I use Firefox or Waterfox, I can count on pretty much every site crashing at some point during the day due to Shockwave. Just applied some of the fixes I've come across in this thread in hopes that they'll work.

This. I don't use it,because a few Firefox features, but it seems the way the title is worded that OP is dismissing all the work the IE team did in terms of performance optimization and standardization.

I use Opera because of the extensions and features (it is pretty much Chrome without the lock-down bullshit from Google) but IE is undoubtedly the best browser simply because it is made to work under any condition. I have to give IE credit where credit is due.

I was tired of Firefox freezing when trying to watch a Youtube video and switched back to Chrome last week. Luckily, Google removed that annoying profile sync option (at least in the version of Chrome I have).

Firefox is still working like a champ in my PC. I'm not suffering from memory leaks either. I wonder why it only happens to some?

Only problem I've had with Firefox is any add-ons that mess with Flash (in my case YouTube Center). It caused huge RAM usage, slowdown and regular crashes. Removed it a few days ago and it's been perfectly fine since. Flash is garbage.

Not tried Firefox in a while, but I'm getting sick of Chrome using 40% of my CPU everytime I open it. Kicks my fans up too.

Had to switch to MS Edge until I work out what's causing it.

I think there's a huge difference between running FF on Windows/Unix platforms.

I hear where you guys are coming from on Windows but on my Mac I don't have any issues with FF at all.

I started the VSync tester in IE.
It was WORSE than Firefox with the vsync variables set. With the money of a big corp behind them it's utterly shameful. And, and it can only do 60fps because 120Hz displays don't exist.

Seriously, 300meg footprint, 2% CPU while browsing, 15% in a HD stream. Now Vsynced. Firefox has been good to me.

tell me why my machine with q 6600e (not overclocked) 4gb ram and a 570 ti has no problems than? :)

(hint, fix your system :P)

Do the test linked above and prove that it doesn't stutters. Objectively, Firefox stutters absolutely on every configuration. And the higher refresh rate your monitor is, the more noticeable those stutters are. And they happen every 5-10 seconds. On Microsoft Edge it's locked 120FPS render, not a single stutter, on Chrome it's locked 144Hz.

For some people playing games at 25-30FPS on consoles is fine, for me it's just a slideshow. Maybe you just one of those people.

I'm having major problems with chrome. On GAF it only takes a few pages and the tab will show it continually loading (spinny icon), images will stop loading, and eventually the little icons for bold/italic etc disappear (they are gone now as I type this). Need to keep restarting but it is barely usable.

It is up to date, I don't have a ton of tabs open (two gaf and one google inbox at the moment) - any suggestions? I'd prefer to keep chrome if I can fix the performance as the sync with android is handy.

pleasant.

several others have no problems and i just tried to tell you that it could also be your system or drivers that are part of the issue. but if you wanna be an elitist asshole about it thats ok too. im out.

Firefox has huge problems with memory allocation and garbage collection, even with e10s on. I only wish Chrom* had vertical tabs; that's the only thing I really miss from Firefox. Not having to restart the browser every hour because it leaked memory out its ass is preferable to having pretty tabs, though.

Fireshot was killing me. Some add-ons or combination of add-ons got wonky along the upgrade process. Started in safe-mode and it was the same Firefox I always remembered. Back to normal now. Will slowly get my add-ons back until it breaks again.

Why is ublock the best adblocker to use now?

As far as browsers go, Firefox and Chrome have the extensions that are needed. Firefox is RAM intensive and has a tendency to crash. Chrome on the other hand also uses RAM but has a tendency to just lock up. Chrome is also fairly invasive.

Internet Explorer probably has the best performance right now, but lacks the extensions (Since last time I checked) that can be used in Firefox and Chrome. Safari is only worthwhile to use if you are on a Mac, and the problem there is that the amount of extensions available on that are also abysmal.

Opera is Opera.

Dang... gotta give ublock a try. Maybe this will fix my firefox performance issues. I can't live without adblock but firefox runs like ass with it.'

For me the killer feature in Firefox is tags in bookmarks. Chrome bookmarks are so primative in comparision. So while mostly use chrome now due to its better performance vs firefox with similar addons installed... I really would love to move back to firefox.

Firefox has been terribly slow - I agree. Only one add on installed too. Annihilated by Chrome on my PC.

Firefox mobile was also utterly horrible. Terrible scrolling, sloppy ugly UI and frequent crashes.

Main issue I have with Firefox is flash-related too. Unresponsive plugin popups freezing my browser endlessly. I might just uninstall flash.

Never seen uBlock before either, gonna give that a try.

I've been on that Firefox train for years, I remember around 10.0 it had a lot of issues, but I waited it out, and it runs better than ever now. No Flash and no Java.

Is it just me having issues with HTML5 on YouTube? Videos run extremely choppy and performance slows to a halt, with and without hardware acceleration enabled. Got so bad I've enabled aggressive flash in YouTube Center.

Yeah, FF has been extremely awful. It's supper slow, crashes a lot, uses TONS of memory, and lately it even stops my entire computer for a minute or so every now and then. It happened twice reading this thread.

I'm trying to move over to Vivialdi since it's even better than Chrome, but since it's still on it's early days, there are a lot of things that are essential to me missing. But I'm so annoyed by Firefox that I might make the jump and use FF as a secondary browser.

I had been with Firefox since like version 3.0 or something. But I gave up on Firefox and finally made the move to Chrome last year. There's a reason Firefox's browser share is rapidly sliding towards single digits, I feel like actual development on Firefox has basically ceased years ago. It's fallen so far behind that I couldn't justify continuing to use it.

Greasemonkey? If so, there is a known memory leak. Install 2.3.1 until it gets resolved

Shiina knows
Per-site switches and UOs logger are heaven.

I use all 3 for different sites (and basically leave FF & Chrome open 24/7, although only two tabs at most in FF). It sucks because they all have their problems. IE definitely improved with 11, but I still use it the least. I am interested in what MS is doing with the big overhaul coming though. I'd say I use Chrome for 90% of what I do or want to keep tabbed, but it sure as hell has slowed down horribly the past year or two. I blame plugins & extensions, which I try to keep at a minimum these days.

I was trying to use that vsync website and for whatever reason it will only display 60Hz. I have a 120hz monitor, I have it set to display 120hz both in Nvidia Control Panel and in the monitor's firmware, yet it remains 60 here. I've tried multiple browsers (Chrome, FF, Opera) yet it doesn't work. I'm really at a loss here; anyone care to take a stab as to why this is happening? I even tried Displayport and D-DVI (dual link) yet nothing seems to rectify the situation. I'm on Vista x64 if that helps at all.

lol flash needs to die
twitch needs to get html5 support already tbh
firefox is the best browser atm IMO, best extensions. chrome doesnt have half the stuff I use on FF
