Why haven't you bought a vita yet?

Gotta be honest, you're dead on here. Especially the last part. I like the system but the people who can't see the problems you described have their heads in the sand. A lot of the pro-vita gaf seems almost delusional. One guy yesterday said it was the greatest handheld of all time. Wtf?!

Yeah. greatest of all time is highly subjective, but I don't think Vita would enter the argument in any regards to that. With that being said though, I love my Vita like I would love a new puppy.

Combo of the price, game selection, and the fact the 3DS has been more than enough to satisfy my handheld gaming needs. I'd love a Vita just to play P4G but can't justify the price for just 1 game. I'm not implying there's nothing else worth playing on the system, but for me, they just aren't things that sell the system to me (at least as far as what I've seen). Maybe I'll get one down the road, but certainly no immediate plans.

I suspect they mean technically. In the same way that the PS4 is technically the best console ever.

The Vita is an impressive piece of tech, and a big reason why I really have no interest in the 3DS. Technically, they're not comparable IMO.

I've never owned a handheld before. Never really felt the need, but now I'm fighting for TV time so recently I've been poking at this stupid little IPod and thinking, why don't I get REAL handheld gaming system.

Plus with a PS4 in the future, it makes even more sense to take the plunge and get a Vita.

It's kinda sad that Vita has turned into this - turning it into an accessory for the PS4.

So I'm debating getting a Vita because it seems neat, but I dunno... It seems like a waste of money.

I have a PSP, and a 3DS XL (and a DSi XL I never use now) but the vita looks neat.

Question here since there's no vita discussion thread for stupid neogaf anti-megathread reasons:

I don't like action games on handhelds. The controls are clunky/uncomfortable, and I want something I can just put down and pause at any time and not feel like it's going to count against me. I'm interested in P4G, since I could emulate it on my PC but I just don't give enough of a shit because I'd rather play games when I'm out relaxing than at home playing rpgs.

Is there any tactics games? I'd get VLR for it, but I'd actually rather get VLR for my 3ds.

Any suggestions?

Personally, unlike GAF, I thought the Dpad was terrible and I thought the sticks stick out too much.

It's a damn shame how the Vita has been handled. I love both of my Vitas, but the lack of new games sucks. The PSX and PSP games almost make up for it.

I'm waiting for the price to drop and the games to come. I've gone to buy one a few times but after you get a few games and the memory card it all adds up. At the moment there are some good specials on the wifi + 3G versions for $259 including a game (LBP or All stars). Add $100 for 32gig memory, and a few more games - which there aren't many, but it can get up to 400$+ so I don't know. I think I'll get one if the price drops a little more. But like most other people on here, there isn't one game that is a console seller unfortunately.

I have an iPad.

This but not for the obvious reasons.

Between the two, tablets are just a much more reasonable device for an adult to buy, given the multimedia functions. Some recent games like knights of the old republic, real racing 2, and bastion are nice bonuses, but at the end of the day, portable gaming just isn't relevant enough to me to buy a device that does only that, so ill get by with a device that does "some" of that.

Vita is a great system, and I own one.

The main issue I have is the lack of multiple profiles. Being able to share a portable gaming device is very important. I also want access to the other region PSN stores.

Now that I have a "backlog" of free PS+ titles I'd be happy to buy one if it was reasonably priced -- which, unfortunately for Sony, pretty much means $150 plus reasonably-priced memory cards. Not sure that will be happening any time soon.

I bought my Vita during Black Friday otherwise I probably wouldn't have one yet.

It's worth it for Gravity Rush.

I agree that the memory cards are ridiculously overpriced. :/

Can't justify the price, especially not with those bloated memory card prices.

Though funnily enough, I have P4G on my shelf just for when I finally crack and buy one.

I have too many consoles to support another one (i mean buying more games and having more time to play) and the only thing it interests me right now is persona 4 golden.

Its expensive and most if not all of the games reek of "handheld release". I don't want a gaming system that's treated as a second class citizen. Its not 2003 any more.

I'm honestly starting to regret not jumping on Amazon's Black Friday Vita deal. Hopefully they'll have something at least that good this year.

Because nogames. I borrowed one from a friend of mine to play Virtue's Last resort, and then it was gathering dust at my place for good 5 months, because neither me nor friend had no desire to chose games from one's roster. There was MGS HD collection I forgot about though, but still it's not the system seller for me. I'm pretty sure I'll get one eventually, like after they redesign the damn thing.

Just interested to hear from those that haven't bought one, what is putting you off owning one?

Is it the price on the vita system?
The high memory card prices for small size cards?
Is it because you think it lacks games?
Too many port not enough originality?
Not enough ports?
Are you considering one but need that push?

Or a different reason?

Would you consider one? What can sony do to convince you to buy one?

The price is unbelievably high for the games it offers

i got a 3DS for 160$ for example with a game and has one of my most anticipated game this generation, Bravely Default and a huge number of games i want to play like Shin Megami 4, Simulators like New leaf, startegy RPGs like Fire emblem, adventures like Layton, Zelda etc, all unique exclusives to the system

Vita does not really have any game i want much and it is not worth the 300$ to replay FF9 on the go, given i have finished FF9 more than 5 times already

If it goes down to 150$ or 100$ even better, i may buy for FF7-8-9 on the go, since i dont want any of the other games really

To sum up, it is a mix of lack of unique software i would die to play and the huge price

Also i would instantly buy one if it had an exclusive game like Bravely Default with amazing 2D art and old school RPG goodness, that is what would convince me to buy one right now at that price

I currently have no desire to buy one. But the ps4/psvita connection seems very interesting to me. I'll wait and see how that plays out before i buy one.

The fact that someone told me in all seriousness that Persona 4 Golden was the best game on the system killed my interest in it faster than anything else could have. P4 is my least favorite game in the franchise (excluding the ones that are objectively bad like DemiKids) and if that's the best Vita has to offer than I want no part in it.

Sounds like handheld fans are also big JRPG fans, since JRPGs are almost all people are talking about in here. The Vita has western console style games, and those are exactly the kind of games I like and the reason I like the Vita so much. I'll take Uncharted or Unit 13 over some bizarre Japanese stuff like "Bravely Default" (whatever the hell those two words put together mean) any day of the week, but apparently I'm abnormal. Handheld gamers = Otaku.

mainly the price for me, I think the Sly bundle for 199,- EUR was a good price, but then I would have to buy a memory card too, and the only one would be the 32gb version, which adds another 80,- EUR and that is too much for a handheld I just want because I want it.

Hoping for the price drop at gamescom and announcement of the 64gb memory card with a lowered price, that would be the final push for.
Thanks to my PS+ subscription there are a lot of great games waiting to be played (Uncharted: GA, Gravity Rush, Zero Escape, etc.).

They really should bring a Killzone: Mercanaries Bundle with a 64gb memory card, I guess I would pay up to 250,- EUR for that.

what does the 3g do?
If you pay for a 3G subscription you can use it for accessing the internet. The latency isn't good enough to play multiplayer games, but you can at least use apps like Near with it. It also comes with a GPS receiver which is used by games like Monster Radar. It's a shame they couldn't add it to all devices.

I realize that the OP asked for people that didn't have one, but I can see even though I do own one that any and all of the things listed could very easily put people off from the system. Price and games are the two biggest contributors, just as they were when I got mine and things haven't gotten much better since then. Ultimately they are trying to sell the machine on the facets of the hardware itself, which is pointless when you want something to use the beautiful hardware for, not just to have the hardware itself. The only reason I got mine was the amount of store credit I had at the time and I wanted Rayman on the go. I now wish I had more willpower as there is nothing else I am dying to play and the only other game I was excited about was just canceled. Warrior's Lair, losing you will make me resent my Vita purchase like few games can ever manage.

the overpriced memory cards is what sealed the deal on me not getting it. as it stands, ill wait for the ps4 to come out and see how that tie in goes. regardless tho, ill probably get one in the future, but id like to see it start shipping with normal sd cards.

I spent more time on my Vita than other platforms this year, thanks to games like Guacamelee, Velocity Ultra and Hotline Miami. Suff like Spelunky and Luftrausers will add more fuel to that particular fire. I hope Tearaway delivers as well.

I got my Vita the other day for £160 with 10 games + another 10 that I had from PS+, as well as the numerous PS1 classics I've bought from the Playstation Store that I would like to play on the go.

The only thing pissing me off is the memory card prices but you'd be surprised at how much you can fit on an 8gb card. I currently have WipeOut, Rayman Origins, Sine Mora, Lumines, Hungry Giraffe, Coconut Dodge, Octopus, Tekken 2 and various other apps on there, with 2gb of free space to spare. It's not ideal, but most people will have no problem with 8gb. I just keep all of my Vita downloads on my PS3 for easy access.

It needs more games, although the psp and ps1 store is awesome. The memory cards is one of the dumbest thing I have ever seen. A 32gb card costs half of what the console costs! 32gb! The system hates people who go digital.
The remoteplay is a lie.

If the Vita was half price I might have considered it, or if regular memcards were usable. Not now, not when the 3DSXL costs the same.
I still bought one but payed for it with used games olololo

I've said this before and I'll say it again. There's this misconception that you have to break the bank to play a Vita.
The system is already being heavily discounted online. It's even more common to find great used deals.
If you have PS+, it gives you a steady stream of good games to play (specially if you live in the EU :P ).
Yes the memory cards are way too overpriced for the space they offer.
No, you probably don't need to walk around with most of your games collection. Just buy an 8GB or 16GB card and transfer games you're not currently playing back to a PS3 or PC.

I almost bought it, 2 times. As a pluser I was tempted, but then I thought better. It's not actually a price in my case, more of preferring to play on big screen. And I don't really need hh, as I play games only at home.

The memory card issue above everything else. I find it unbelievable that it doesn't support SD cards.

Overpriced memory cards kill it for me, what a rip.
Kinda have the feeling there's a hardware revision on the horizon as well.

Same reason for me.

To make Vita a worthwhile purchase, Sony needs to redesign the system with internal 16G memory that can be expanded with a price drop.

I didn't bought one yet only because i have a 3ds that lately is taking all my time and money with all the games that are coming out.

I will surely buy one though, especially for playing ps4 games also offscreen. Beeing able to continue playing my games while on the tv there's some crappy reality show is something i really like.

Sweeping judgements FTL.

There are plenty of Japanese games that aren't JRPGs or Otaku-bait, and seeing as western support has been poor-to-non-existent on handhelds recently, it seems a bit odd to dismiss fans of 95% of the libraries of both handhelds as creepy obsessives because you don't like the worst trappings of one genre.

I certainly don't think you're abnormal for not liking Japanese games, to each their own, personally I can't stand linear US shooters with all the gung-ho, flag-waving military dialogue and ridiculous levels of violence, but I wouldn't start calling their fans gun-obsessed racist lunatics based on my little experience of online gaming. For most people games of all types are just a hobby and the most distasteful aspects of some genres and their most tedious fans just something to ignore.

Bravely Default is a weird name though. Maybe it loses something in the translation!

Memory cards for it still cost too much is the only reason I have not picked one up. I have Plus so I have a good library to instantly play if I bought one, but I don't want to have to buy multiple memory cards and have to switch, the prices are still way too high. When PS4 comes out and it works well with those games with reasonable memory card prices I will buy one.
