Why haven't you bought a vita yet?

I bought one but returned it within 30 days. Why?

-Little to no games that I cared for on the platform
-Games are mostly ports and not original titles (though UMVC3 on the go was sweet)
-Battery life was awful, at least on my unit
-Memory cards are a joke - not only are they proprietary but they are extremely expensive
-Sony pretty much doesn't care about it (as shown at the past E3s and other conferences/announcements)
-Too expensive
-Everyone has a 3DS, iPhone, or even PSP to use for handheld gaming

I'm waiting for a redesign and possible upgrade/better integration with PS4. Will definitely get one once the redesign comes out.

And oh, it'd be nice if the redesign puts an end to the whole "Must use 2 memory cards to access 2 different stores" and just let you access both stores from the same card or something.

I did buy one. Almost a year ago to the day, actually. I regret it a little, but it has a few games I enjoy so it's not so bad. And I'll be playing Ys Celceta and Tearaway soon!

Is it the price on the vita system?
Yes, I got my 3DS with a game for only $210 + tax

The high memory card prices for small size cards?
Yes, having a PS+ sub doen't make it any easier.

Is it because you think it lacks games?
Nope, I wish I could play Muramasa and P4G

Too many port not enough originality?
Nope, I love fighting games on the go.

Not enough ports?
???

Are you considering one but need that push?
Will probably borrow one if there's a game that interests me.

Would you consider one? What can sony do to convince you to buy one?
Bundle it with a PS4 for cheap.

32gig cards need to 50bucks tops, $100 is a joke and is highway robbery. It wouldn't surprise me if they cost $5 each to make in whatever sweatshop they come from. Say 'Sony needs to make money' all you want buy they won't if noone is buying the system because of the memory cards.

I bought one because I found a cheap deal, otherwise the memory card, price and lack of a significant number of games that interest me would be enough to keep me away. If they anounce a revision soon I'll be pissed :p

I actually had a First Edition unit and sold it earlier this year because I just never played it. The only game I put a significant amount of time into was Sound Shapes. Everything else I didn't care about, or in the case of the indie games, I can play on my PC.

Price of the system
Price of the memory cards
Not that many games that I currently want, only a few have caught my attention but still not enough for me to agree to the prices

Two reasons:

I don't have a PS4 yet (remote play ftw)

Binding of Isaac & Spelunky aren't out yet

I never thought I'd want one originally, but I'm pretty much sold on it now (especially with all the PS+ games). Good job Sony.

Because life is too short for handheld games.

Remote Play is irrelevant for my needs as well.

High price tag, unappealing hardware (sub native resolution graphics = gross), and Sony's overall lack of commitment to it.

Maybe when more Japanese third party titles show up, I could overlook the first two.

White Vita - because I already got the black Vita.

... I went crazy and got it at launch, so I can't even give an answer for getting it late beyond "didn't want to import." If I didn't already have it it'd be because I was still waiting on Ys though.

It's too bulky, overpriced and I don't want to spend close to a $100 for a 32GB proprietary memory card.

If they can adress these issues with a PS Vita revision then I would be there day 1.

Here are my main reasons:
1. The system is too damn expensive - drop the price to around $150 and you've got yourself a deal. I already own a iphone which gets the job done as far as portable gaming goes, I'm not dropping another $250+ on a handheld gaming device.

2. Proprietary memory is a scam - the prices are ridiculously high and it's a hidden cost. I feel bad for the 8 parents out there who actually purchased a Vita for their kids over an ipod or ipad mini only to discover that the damn thing needs an overpriced saving device to work.

3. Not enough games I'm interested in - Persona 4 Golden on its own would be enough for me to dive in if the other problems I listed weren't an issue. However, there just isn't enough original software built from the ground up for PSV that I want to play.

I am a guy in his 20s. I grew up as a kid spending many hours playing games on the Gameboy, GBA, and DS/PSP. Now I'm older. I have responsibilities and I'm generally far busier. What free time I have for videogames usually goes to playing something on my 360. Most kids growing up now are hooked on iPhone games. And for people like myself who grew up with traditional handheld gaming, what's the appeal now? Do I want to invest $250 for a Vita, another $80 for a 32GB memory card, and then pay $40 for new games? When you live in an environment of endless mobile games that are $1 or free, $40 games are suddenly a lot less appealing. Combine that with a general lack of appealing games, and there's essentially NOTHING I would want from the Vita.

The Vita is selling poorly since it essentially appeals to no particular audience. Kids today care more about mobile games, and people who grew up on traditional handhelds either aren't interested in them anymore or are going to get a 3DS for the Nintendo titles. I suppose the Vita would be the perfect system if you like to play console-lite games on a small screen for $40 in your house (because good luck playing a handheld in public as an adult without people staring at you).

i have one, and its a great little package of system, but i have serious doubts about its validity as a stand alone console.
sony has displayed a complete inability to support their own hardware without the aid of its third party buddies, and that's something they need to seriously work on.

the fact that so many people are hyped for it now because they might be able to stream ps4 titles onto it is ridiculously ironic for me.

i also have a pspgo & a GBmicro, and enjoy them too. i buy them all eventually, but yeah.

Or a different reason?

Lower price please.

No backwards compatibility means I have to buy digital....

The games stuff is a weird one; At the end of the day it's a great piece of hardware but it's getting closer and closer to just being a mini home console, while the DS has the dual screens that makes it do it's own thing. Even when the DS has multi-platform games it still has enough quirks to feel like it stands out. No amount of smaller versions of home console games makes a Vita look enticing to me.

I want that LED screen pretty badly for some PSP games.

1, Very few games I want to play.
2. Very few future games announced for the system that I would want to play.
3. Price of entry is too high when you factor in 1 & 2 and the RIDICULOUS memory card prices.

If I could have it just to kick around with from time to time, (even if I am not high on the current game selection) I would. But not at this price. If they did release some games I was interested in I might be willing to jump at current prices, but they just haven't. I don't own a portable right now, but if a magic fairy showed up and asked me which one I'd want, I'd pick a 3DSxl. And I am by no means some raving Nintendo fan. But they seem to have a plan. I don't get the impression the Vita does. E3 hammered that point home for me personally.

I own a gaming PC, a 360 and a PS3. That stuff is expensive. I am not a rich man. The line needs to be drawn somewhere.

This post is spot on, kudos

I really couldn't have said it better myself.

Plus I can play XCOM on iOS, no need to buy a separate console.

Price, and 3DS had more to offer to me in respect to games, so I got an XL instead (not that I'm satisfied with the prices for 3DS games).

Memory cards. I'm not too interested in the library of the system either, but even if I were, I wouldn't buy one because of the memory cards. I'd probably pick one up tomorrow if they gave us some kind of adapter for SD cards.

Psh, I got mine before it came out in the USA. Mine was imported with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Ragnarok baby! Also have PSO2 on this bitch.

I've actually seen plenty of adults play handhelds in public (myself included) and no one is giving each other strange looks.

That may be so. Speaking for myself, I can't remember the last time I saw an adult playing a dedicated handheld in public. I see people flip out iPhones all the time to play games while they wait for things. Again, just saying that mobile gaming is more socially acceptable for both children and adults now.

I have only bought one handheld system in my life (DS) and bought 3 games for it (2 that I really liked, 1 that I didn't).

Vita has no place in my gaming lifestyle.

Well, I do own a Vita. But the reason I waited so long to buy one was:

* The Price (I still think the price is crazy for a handheld).
* The cost of memory cards is insane. The system loses its appeal, when you gimp its digital features with high cost memory cards.

EDIT: Before someone says: but tablet's are that much (iPads even more). True. But I think tablets are viewed a lot differently than gaming devices (in terms of their value and what they do). They are used as a utility for a lot more than gaming. And I don't think any of the gaming handhelds have actually come up with a comparable experience to surfing the web, streaming music, and doing all the things you can do with a tablet/phone.

Y'know.... except the Vita!

The Vita Is a very competent device outside of gaming as well, music, video, streaming and surfing the web all work fine. The only drawbacks in comparison to tablets is screen size but that is a given.

Great system imo. Have one but some of my friends that were never into gaming are on Ios kick. Few guys that still play pretty hard grabbed one and they love the system. Phone games are not enough for me honestly. Five min time wasters. Respect the fact some people feel different though.

Few times I had Vita out in public people come and ask what It is. Never get weird looks, maybe Its the city.

I got a Vita, but I also thought it would be some decent PSP-level of success. I consider it the greatest gaming dedicated hardware put together yet, so it definitely still works on that level.

But if I didn't, the arguments for why I didn't own one would be

-> Price ($250 for a gaming dedicated handheld is clearly too much for most people... even though to us gamers it seemed attractive given the power and features, but the mass market in general doesn't want to spend that much money for a device which exists pretty much to play games. Should be $179.99.
-> Proprietary Memory Cards (really, Sony? All these consumer friendly moves you're making with PS4... and you don't get that consumers want the ability to simply locate one of the many dozen of SD cards they probably having lying about their home and utilize it? Or, shit, PACK a goddamn memory card with the system!)
-> Lack of a Future (given how horrendous Vita is doing, I don't see it existing for very much longer as a platform with a healthy library. Unless something changes quick, things are going to get worse. They need a massive price cut and they need to call Jesus Christo and tell them to get Monster Hunter back for the platform somehow - how the fuck do you sleep on your ass with that one, Sony, after the heavy lifting it did for PSP in Japan?)
-> 3DS (right now, the system is taking off with its library right around the same time the Vita is fading out. Other than Tearaway and maybe one or two other games if I strain myself, there's virtually no exclusives of note for the system anymore that I can tell.)

That's the thing though, when do you honestly have time to play anything more than 5 minute time wasters on the go?

Zero word of mouth among people I know in real life to get me interested.
No major exclusives that I've noticed. If there are ones that appeal to me enough to be a system seller I haven't been exposed to them.
Price too high to be a spontaneous impulse buy
I learned that memory cards are so expensive and non-standard recently
My backlog is too enormous to buy a new console yet.
When my backlog has shrunk,I would rather have both a 3ds and wiiu, and don't own them yet.
