Why is EA not making NFS: Underground 3?

Underground - Most Wanted 2005 were what got me into the racing genre. The cars felt powerful and fast. The music was great (at the time). The car handling was great. Sure it was arcadey but the cars felt like they had weight to them, like real cars. The criterion games are fun, but the cars don't have that same weighty feel. I miss the old NFS days.
 
I'm in the minority here who adores Blackbox NFS games. I just couldn't get into Criterion's offerings. For the love of all things sideways EA, give me Underground 3!
 
I miss the underground games.

I used to sit for hours just tubing my cars/tweaking how they looked etc. the music was always awesome in them too!

I'd be all over that shit if they brought out NFSU3 on PS4. It would look absolutely stunning I reckon.
 
I haven't played a single NFS game other than NFS:U2, and yes they should make a third unless they hate making money..

The Sims City/BF4 BS makes me doubt that somewhat. Can't really see any reason why it would make financial sense to avoid an Underground 3, as far as I know Underground 2 was successful sales-wise and a lot of people would buy it for nostalgia's sake if anything.

They probably haven't yet found a way to turn it into a consistent, always online experience that uses the power of Cloud, runs on a subscription model with upgrades you buy with real world money or 100s of hours of grinding. With semiannual expansions and season passes.

NFSU had an amazing soundtrack. Doing races with TI's 24 blasting in the background was hype. Or whenever that Petey Pablo song came up...

NFSU apparently sold 15m and NFSU2 sold around 6m. Assuming those numbers are accurate (Wiki has a link to the 6m figure, but it's dead now), then that probably scared the shit out of EA to see the series drop that much from one entry to another. The original NFSU just hit at the perfect time when import car culture was at an all time high because of the success of The Fast and the Furious and 2F2F.
 
To be honest all I want is an open world arcade racer with a fuckton of beautiful-totally-never-going-to-be-able-to-afford cars and customisation options.

On next gen/PC only.

Somebody do it and I'm there day 0 season pass and all.
 
Underground 1 & 2 are my absolute favorite racing games. I really loved the customization (or pimping) of the cars and the drag racing mode - They are the only racing games in which i really felt and identification with my own cars.
Mosted Wanted (the 2005 one) was great too

There are enough racing games with expensive prestige cars, give us back underground :/

If you are already riding cars like Veyron/Zonda/murcielago etc. then there is no point of customization.

He continues: "You will always have people who have different opinions. My job ultimately is to understand those feelings and build a game that I think is the best possible. I see the Underground comments, trust me, and it's not like we don't regard them."

Agreed, but 6mill is still good
And it was bound to decrease with a sequel, loads of people got the original and didn't like it
But 6mill must be better then what it's pushing now.
 
Because the old "The Fast and The Furious" drag racing fad is dead.

Of course there is.

There are always ways to make it faster, look better etc.

Check around the web for modifications to those kinds of cars, some of them look absolutely stunning.
 
All I wanted is an Arcade basic game with some customization, many cars and tracks. I cant understand why every racing game now is a simulator or, if arcade, have the need to those cop chasing and/or unnecessary open world area.

A nice arcade gameplay + car customization + nice racing tracks is all its needed.
 
They better don't make a U3. wouldn't be anything but disappointing for sure. I still remember the 00s playing NFSU+U2 at PS2, and the memory is awesome. But a new game which can't beat the previous ones would kinda destroy my childhood.

This. I'm lucky I grew up with the 'good' NfS games, Underground 1 and 2, Most Wanted, even Carbon. I feel like there's really a lack of Tuner Racers nowadays. :(

4-6m is pretty much the range that NFS games fall into now. I think that's why Ghost said that they'd make another Underground if you told them that it'd sell 15m. Otherwise there isn't much reason for them to go through that much work for something that'll sell in the average range for a game in the series. It seems that while some fans have a lot of nostalgia for Underground, that doesn't exist among the people making the games.

There's very little that some random consumer is going to do to make a supercar better than what it was when it rolled out of a factory where it'd built for that specific customer. You might make it faster in a straight line, but you'll probably screw up the handling. And it's very unlikely that it's going to look better.

Yep. still gets a run every now and then, some irritating quiks in the handling at low speed but other than that it was pretty damn solid.

The Tuning possibilities of NFS:U2 (Cosmetic and Power)
The Frostbite Engine for the World and the Graphics (Like NFS: The Run)
The Multiplayer features from Alldrive (NFS:R)
The Servers vom NFS:Online (MMO - like the crew)

Why MMO?
So image you could meet up with friends in your "hood" and chill with your tuned cars: Then some wild Stranger appers and wants a Race! 1vs1 - and every other can Bet - so you get extra money - or your friend loses his car !

That would be awesome !!!
 
NFS underground perfectly fits EA's new business model of microtransactions. They can add rims, wings, decals, and the only way to get them is with money.

why EA refuses to do another Underground game, I really don't know. the fact that EA greenlit and released the abysmal NFS: The Run but won't make another Underground game is even more upsetting. as much as I loved some of the more recent NFS games, the Hot Pursuit formula is getting stale.

it'd definitely be refreshing if EA took the franchise to a fictional city that'd support a more versatile racing formula. bringing back the drag races, drifting and classic circuit racing would be great, especially if cops were added this time around to the circuit races. making cops playable would also be a good thing to keep. couple that with the All-Drive feature that Rivals added and the multiplayer for a new Underground/Rivals hybrid would be huge; customized cars, cops, lots of racing modes and a city to play in would be a great direction for the series to take.

Agreed. Carbon is my favourite game out of all of the 4(U, U2, MW, Carbon), though U2 runs it close. I spent hours playing those 4 games back in the day, maybe it was because they were the "Fast and Furious" games I was looking for back when the movies were still focused on street racing, but man, I still love them to this day.

The emotion, the speed, the girls. The series needs to get back to that.

Yeah, you basically play the same guy from U1 all the way to Carbon, which does give the story some continuity. I'm not sure about Pro Street though, no idea if the guy you play as is the same as in the previous 4 games.

Damn. By just imagining this I get chills.
But I think if Crew gets some success then EA might want to bring back the customizing aspect.
