Why is Microsoft no longer talking about the next Halo?

No, a lot of people seem to be missing this crucial point. Why are they no longer talking about it at all? They're happy to list Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, and literally everything else that's coming out this year, in their press releases... except Halo.

Doesn't strike you as a little weird that they're not even addressing the very existence of a game they've already announced? I'm not expecting more information. As others say quite rightly, it is too early. But it's definitely not normal to completely deny its existence.

When have they ever denied it's existence? I think you're mistaking "Not talking about a game that's far out" with "This game must be in trouble!". Both Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive are still slated for this year. That's why they're mentioning them.

You don't split your messaging when you have a tent pole title launching soon. The point right now is to get people hyped for Titanfall, hyping Halo at the same time just detracts from the buzz for Titanfall. Particularly if they want people to jump in right now talking of a late 2014 or 2015 just encourages the 'wait for a price cut' crowd.

that would take the wind out of titanfalls sails

i think we will hear about h2a after titanfall launches

Not singling you out but what does Titanfall have to do with Halo? You dont see Sony not talking about the Order when they have Infamous coming out.

Halo 5 delayed until 2015 and H2A this year. We get a good Halo MP game and 343 gets more time to make a good Halo game and compare how H2 MP goes to how Halo 4 MP went.

There has been no MP announced for H2A and I would doubt it would have it. Unless they kicked out the dev duties all together to someone else.

The reason everything got turned around is 343 went in a different direction somewhere along the lines with H5 hence the turnover at 343. The game was originally 2014 and got pushed but is being ignored with dreams of H2A which most likely CA is doing if its a reality.

Every list they put out of upcoming games for Xbox One literally includes everything they've announced. Except Halo. Even stuff like Quantum Break that doesn't even have a release date.

I'm guessing that's the reason, I'm totally fine with 343i (and Black Tusk) taking their sweet time...I want both Halo & Gears to be as good as they can be.

Plus Halo 2 Anniversary will be a good way to distract Halo players.

I'm going to have to see some examples of these lists for comparison. But like it's been mentioned multiple times, Halo 5 was probably originally intended to be 2014, but pushed to 2015 so they're just focusing on 2014 stuff right now.

Let me ask you this in addition to the lists: What do you think this means/what specifically is your concern? Are you afraid they cancelled it or something?

Well we didn't get any Halo 4 news until 9 months after it was announced at E3 so my guess is at best we should get news sometime in March. Perhaps a GI cover just like Halo 4?

I'd be right there with you if it wasn't for everything else negative that's been heaped on the Halo brand since Bungie relinquished it.

Halo 5 is make or break for the franchise.

Don't get me wrong, they can be one in the same. But games, specifically ones this far out, get delayed all the time. I agree this next one is going to be super important so I imagine they're giving it all the time it needs to be sure it's as amazing as possible.

Check the links in the OP.

Xbox.com still lists it as a 2014 title and we've heard nothing that says otherwise. Yet it's omitted from all their promos.

My concern? I'm a Halo fan and want to play the next game.

or they needed a megaton reveal last e3.
teaser last e3, gameplay demo this e3.

too bad it didn't create that much buzz after the day ended.

Well MS right now is focused on Titanfall. It really does seem like we'll get Halo 2 Anniversary this year and I imagine we'll get a new Halo 5 trailer at E3 (where they'll actually call it Halo 5).

I actually really hope they don't call this next Halo game like Halo: Rise of Cortana or something stupid like that. Just put the number next to it!

5 was around the time Call of Duty ditched its numbers, so I wouldn't be surprised if 343i do the same.

Sorry, they were a bit hidden. Basically, as I've said, all those lists are for 2014 games (Though I'd bet The Division is 2015 but at the time of posting Ubi were still saying 2014). Xbox.com specifically says:

"Halo for Xbox One

Halo is coming exclusively to Xbox One. Your Journey Begins on Xbox One in 2014.

No mention of 5 in there and I'd bet that's intentional. They do use a pic from the H5 promo and that's misleading but it's just a picture of MC's head which again, I would imagine is intentional.

I'm just trying to figure out what deeper layer you're trying to get at. You want to know why it's not being mentioned or talked about and why it's being omitted from lists of upcoming 2014 games. Multiple people have answered all signs point to it probably being delayed to 2015 but you don't seem satisfied with that answer. Do you just want them to admit it's not coming out until 2015? If that's the case, I would imagine we'll hear about it at E3. Or they'll surprise a lot of us and show us a gameplay demo of H5 and give us a 2014 date. Either way, it makes more sense to wait until E3 to say/show either thing.

Maybe they are thinking about buying the Titanfall IP or exclusivity for the 2nd game and having it as their new Halo.

But that just adds another Dev alienation to the list. Not that I think they will learn.

Quantum Break is there too and that's still TBA. Certainly won't be this year, surely?

Also, this game has never been referred to as Halo 5, so the Xbox.com listing is correct.

I understand why they're holding back on new information. That is obvious. I'm just trying to figure out why they're no longer listing it on their upcoming titles in promos, when other games that don't even have release dates are! It makes zero sense!!

The IP isn't for sale. It's basically under shared ownership. Respawn physically owns the IP and the associated trademarks but EA has exclusive distribution and first refusal on all Titanfall games going forward.

I think they do plan on Quantum Break releasing in 2014. Game Informer was definitely under the impression it's slated for it. Not that I'd be surprised if that slipped too, but I would bet at the very least it's farther along than Halo 5. Not to mention that nTkrnl leak that adds some smoke to the fire.

I really hope they move the original Anniversary up to Xbox One along with Halo 2 Anniversary. Then do some kind of original trilogy release for PC with unified multiplier.

So many things I'd do if I was the MS CEO...

E3 is in like 3 months and you're asking why they aren't talking?

Titanfall releases in two weeks. Op are you new to marketing? :p

Read my posts. You and others are not understanding my point. It's perfectly normal for a game to be announced and then a lack of news to follow until the next E3.

What's not normal is to announce a bunch of games at E3, list them all in their upcoming releases, except for their one flagship title that arguably led their press conference. In all their hype posts on Xbox Wire, their press releases, and everything else, they're constantly hyping their upcoming releases. They're constantly hyping The Division, and Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive, and literally every single game they announced at E3. Except Halo. Does that seem normal to you?

you realize halo 5 is next fall right?

This ambiguity is basically what's fuelling this thread. Officially, it's this fall. Unofficially, it's not. Nobody actually knows what's going on and Microsoft is being way too coy about it.

Well, "officially" only Halo on Xbox One is this fall. The E3 trailer never said Halo 5, although the trailer content itself seemed to indicate it. Seems they wanted to leave an out in case 343 wanted more time to polish 5. Which is fine by me, especially if we get Halo 2 Anniversary this year.

They just announced it to try and counter the backlash. It wasn't ready for announcing honestly.

Yeah, I think they did a lot of that at E3 last year. Same deal with Sunset Overdrive (because it was just a CGI trailer and we've seen nothing since) and Shangheist, which they're now pretending never even existed.
