What exactly is a bare boys remake from nintendo?

The fact that other developers have to crunch to death for 1/1000th of the commercial results...

Nintendo is years behind in tech and project management, they have huge issues every time they try to go out of their safe space.

Zelda is taking 5 years every time, Metroid 4 is vaporare, many minor games look quite under budget.

The thing is that they don't care, they can always sell $10 games for $60, they even sold some cardboard at that price.

Easy profit, the only reasons they would ever sort themselves out is not to make better games but to make more profits.

The sad part Is that it's the Nintendo fans that are the cause of this, they are funding like consoomers Nintendo increasingly bad practices in return getting less and worse games.

Ahh yes a kids game developed for kids which adults buy regardless and still be mad at graphics, will this trend ever end? Definitely not because muh nostalgia, plus isnt this game being developed by someone else and not gamefreak? Anyways i dont see any problems with it since its just pokemon, advance wars 1 and 2 for switch, yeah that really is bare bones, only barebones i can think of which was remade by nintendo

BoTW 2 is a 2012 looking game releasing in 2022. This is why I can't take Nintendo seriously anymore. Just imagine how good the game could look on proper hardware.

How is bad practice? If anything i wish most games were like this, id rather have shitty graphics and less detail but a better game overall without consent strain for the developers, you can bitch and moan all you want but nintendo still makes great games at lesser butget, its smart plus nintendo is one of the best game developers to work at in japan, thats purely because there is never crunch there

Because they can. They can release a port for full price. They can get away with not dropping the price of their console for 5 years. They can get away with never dropping price of their games. They can get away with low budget effort for their Pokemon games. In the end they will have massive sales. I think the best course of action is for Nintendo to work on a few higher budget games but majority low budget. If sales don't slow down there is no need to spend more on development.

Why work hard when money is just rolling in?

It's something all companies do. Output only ramps up when it is in need.

With the announcement of metroid dread and the sequel to botw. It looks like nintendo is not investing in these titles like they did mario odyssey or the original botw. Metroid looks like a budget affair. And botw sequel seems to be reusing the assets from botw, and using some sort of day/night, moon cycle, ocean, sky world design to lessen the need for world creation and assets.

Both games look like lower effort games compared to what we saw earlier this gen.

And its not hardware that is limiting these games. Its ambition.

I wonder why?

Nintendo is doing great. Creating great ambitious software in major franchises cannot be that much of a risk. Although i rather see new ip. But lowering the effort for sure shot sequels seems weird.
Switch hardware is for sure a limitation. The Switch tech was already obsolete when it launched and its just gotten worse and worse. They're in desperate need of a refresh or every new game will turn in a cloud based slideshow.

This and I think they are investing in learning how to use DLSS next gen as best as possible and getting ready to release a next gen switch in some form with resources allocated in releasing it with some new games. I expect a N64 like scenario with 3 major new games from Nintendo at launch.

I think people always fail to realize Nintendo's approach. Not all their teams are at the same level. They assess each project based on previous work and move forward.

One of the teams at Mercury Steam started on a Lords of Shadow 3ds game. It looked rough. Then they got to make Samus Returns. Same engine but they got much better. They only got assigned a remake and not a full new game. After proving they could do well with it they moved onto Metroid Dread, which looks substantially better than Samus Returns.
They move their projects forward in this way based on each team. Monolithsoft is at a different place. MarioKart team is at a different place. Splatoon team. Mario team. Zelda team. Metroid Prime team.. And on. All these are being worked on but just not ready yet. So instead of padding their show with cg trailers they show off what's ready. Thats it.

People act like they want games from both 3ds and Console teams but then throw a fit anytime a 3ds team makes a game.

BOTW 2 is not a cheap title, just because it looks to have some of the same map doesn't mean it's all just the same assets.

Metroid dread has been rumored for how many years? It's just suffering from starting as a 3ds game more than likely.

botw2 looks great 🤷‍♂️

Zelda HD and I can overlook bugs in big-budget games when then most of rest of the game is quality.
You honestly classing a HD do over as a remake? Both wind waker and twilight princess looked fine in hd if any of them needed the remake treatment it would be the first and link to the past, also if you class making a gane for hd or 4k as a remake then there are far far worst games that have had this treatment then what nintendo has done

Partially, but the issue comes way before than COVID. Remember that they only have one old sub HD console to output for. Still, they don't seem to managed that.
Even a game like Metroid Dread probably started it's development before Covid. Apart from delays, which makes sense, Covid is just an universal excuse.

I just want more games from them.
I dont care if they are still using gamecube tech lol. They will have to spend more next gen.

But where is my Golden Sun, Earthbound, 3D Donkey Kong, More Pikmin, Metroid Prime 4.

THey dont have alot of studios compared to Sony or Microsoft.
That does not mean they need to have that lol you do know that all of the devs from Japan other than other Nintendo locations just localize the games and other software for Nintendo. They all go to one roof and work on other projects. So I don't understand this argument.

Great games?

not so much anymore and very few of them, most of their output are remasters and more of the same.

You may be happy with it but you are also the cause of the problem.

In regards to BOTW2, why would they not reuse the same assets from the previous games? They will probably improve on assets where they can but if it's a direct sequel why would they discard their assets just for the sake of doing something new? Also, how do you know they aren't creating new things? Yeah they are reusing the same rocks and trees and grass, but how do you know they haven't been creating other regions, new interiors, new characters, new objects, etc. Just because they aren't wasting resources on trying to make the game look dramatically different from the first game doesn't mean they are putting any less resources into the game.

In regards to Metroid. It's a side scrolling metroid game that has historically had mediocre sales. Why would make their devs waste a bunch of time trying make a zoomed out single angle game that''s going to have mediocre sales look super pretty.
Reutilization of assets is not the main problem; Majora's Mask did that and it's a fantastic game. A 2.5D Metroid is a good thing too. The problem is the absence of new AAA games, especially new IP of greater ambition. With the (this time justified) weaker hardware they could do a lot more for less money than Sony or Microsoft, but they are doing less.

With the money Sony spent to make Ratchet and Clank Nintendo could make two 3D platformers, or a new F-Zero plus a new racing IP with the budget of Forza Horizon 5.

BOTW2 is a SEQUEL set in the same world, why wouldn't they use the same assets? It's like OOT to MM. Visuals will be slightly better for sure but you can't assume ps5 or even base PS4 graphics from the switch. The best you gonna get is above ps3/360. Mario odyssey is not a direct sequel to Mario galaxy or 3D world so that's a silly argument. It seems you expect some crazy magic on the switch OP.

I always wondered, are grown ups buying their games to play with their kids or by themselves? Because Nintendo games do not deserve to even be discussed here given the extremely low effort they are putting into them. To be honest, I see them closer to Lego or some other toys than to games you see on PS and Xbox.

If you're playing them with your kids, great, they are perfect for that preteen age but anything other than that gets somewhat strange and seems like some kind of cult following.

PS offers many 👶-friendly colorful games like Ratchet and soon to be Kena, also Bugsnax. You really don't need that NN 💩 in your life. You may not like crunch and working very hard and long hours but it's very wrong to reward laziness again and again and that's what so many of you are doing buying their low-effort shit.

I did grow up not on Nintendo but on Playstation games so IDK, that probably has a lot to do with this…but still, by now I would recognize those guys are laughing their asses off in their offices how stupid their fans must be.

I get what you're saying, but Majora's Mask was made by intentionally reusing assets, and it's one of the weirdest, most creative games in the series. I don't think that's an indication of laziness.

As for Dread, it's kind of a B-team game. I expect it will be fun to play, but you're right, graphically it's not a masterpiece. I wish Mercury Steam would go for a hand-drawn, fully 2d look instead of the ugly 2.5D thing they've been doing since the 3DS Castlevania game. They can design a fun game though. I remember enjoying the last one a lot.

All this to say, you're not wrong about the visuals, but I wouldn't read it as a lack of investment when there are so many other factors to consider. Maybe (definitely) Covid has got them hurting. Maybe MP4 will blow our socks off next year when the pressure is off. Maybe the Switch is just too long in the tooth to impress anymore. Maybe it's a combination of things

Whatever the reason, they can and really should do better. I think they need to beef up their development capabilities, stat. They're going to have to carry the Switch for the next few years until their next generation arrives, and that's assuming it's strong enough to get next gen downports (which is not at all safe to assume). Studios and strategic partnerships is where I want to see them increase their investment in game development.

When did i say i was happy with it? The last one i brought was mario allstars, yeah i was furious about the mario 64 port but then again i mainly brought it for mario sunshine anyways, where i am mario sunshine costs way more then ÂŁ50 second hand, atleast allstars was 1080p and had afew games on it, i dont have a pc to emulate them, another game i got which came out for the wii u was mario bros again i brought it because i hadnt putchased ot for the wii u at the time, im far from the problem seeing as i only buy them if its games i havnt played plus it really doesnt bother me. Plus i have a ps4 as well as a switchas much as i like thenps4 sonys exclusives look pretry but they really aint that great, spiderman, bloodborne, resogun and last of us remake were the only games i enjoyed that were a exclusive to them, i havnt played last of us 2 or ghost of whatever its called but theres alot of pretty sony games that to me just aint that good, at least nintendo games are enjoyable and have great soundtracks

Metroid dread is a side project to lessen the impact of the big one prime 4,being rebooted.

For Zelda i think people are being too hasty... What they gave us is basically a teaser trailer with what is already finished (since Nintendo doesn't do vertical slices).

They are gonna reuse some enemies and the previous map, they would be stupid not to, but I'm Confident that by the end of development they will add enough stuff.

Imagine Mario galaxy 2 more than a dlc, reused assets and gameplay elements, but also a lot of new stuff and new ideas.

Honestly i dont think ots mercury team at all, nintendo just dont have any confidence in making a metroid 2d game, we were lucky to have the 3ds one but im sure fusion at its time didnt make the miney nintendo wanted it to make

Nintendo, unlike the rest of the industry, is able to print money without pouring a small country's GDP into every single game and/or their hardware.
And from the constant stream of threads (and comments) popping up bitching about it, it looks like a lot of people have a problem with that.

Yup Nintendo isn't following the trend of going all in on every game release and will outlive basically every current player in gaming because of it.

Major problems, actually comes across as jealousy, like imagine being jealous over a corporation, im being tood im a problem for re buying Nintendo games that ive mever played before, crazy shit

Welcome to Nintendo. How do you think They make such record profits?Investment is zero they use same games same graphics for like 20 years upscale a bit new colors that's it.They sell these games for 50/60 dollars to make these games costs them a few pennys.Nintendo is cheap that is what they Are.they could easily produce a new home console with a SSD 128GB
7 TF graphics 4 GB Ram 8 core CPU for 250-300 sell for 300-350.They earn of one Main Mario game over 1 billion in profit they are to cheap to spend something like 50 million to make it that it looks like the newest Ratchet and Clank with voice acting newest tech and so on.Tjey know their customers buy and are happy with whatever they produce so you get these cheap games.

Metroid: Dread looks like a $20 nice indie game. Everyone was whining about Returnal costing $70, while I haven't seen anyone whining about $60 for Metroid: Dread. And the latter isn't likely going down in price like the former. I don't understand how people are fine with this.

I thought it looked like a $40 game. But I knew it would come with that Nintendo premium.

Hmm, I think it isn't fair to say BotW2 is "low effort" when we really didn't see THAT much of it. I'm by no means some kind of wild fan, just saying that I feel it's not quite fair to jump to conclusions without some legitimate and good footage.

Metroid Dread however, does still look odd to me and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because of all the variation of gun metal colors? In what we saw there was no variation in environments, etc. Just looked strange to me in a way, almost like some kind of Shadow Complex mod or something. But I'm still interested for the most part. It's just the look + UI looked off to me.

I've always respected Nintendo as they appear to just do their own thing. But a lot of it is pretty odd and has always been that way, haha.

I'm saying that Nintendo knows fans like you will lap their bare-bones remakes and remasters and be happy to pay full price for it.
Contrast how Capcom handles its remakes and remasters to Nintendo, never mind how Microsoft doesn't even look to charge for almost all its HD upgrades

As I said, Nintendo fans are mugs and NCL knows it.

Nintendo is doing great. Creating great ambitious software in major franchises cannot be that much of a risk. Although i rather see new ip. But lowering the effort for sure shot sequels seems weird.

Because that way the can invest the minimum on games and sell them for $60 and never lower the price because is Nintendo. They can release whatever they want and still the Nintendo fans will buy it. They say if it has a good gameplay that´s enough. Sure a game needs a good gameplay and that´s more important than graphics but for example if you invest in the game a sum of money and that game worth is $30-40 to say a price and you still will make money out of it why should i give you $60? Did you invest so much? For example Sony exclusives are $70 but compare how much Sony invest or spend making GOW or Horizon or any exclusive to sell it at $60 or $70 and look how much Nintendo spend on their games. I don´t think Nintendo spend even 1/4 of what Sony or MS spend making their exclusives.

Don´t know if my way of thinking is the way to analyze it I'm not an expert or anything. Of course if you have a business you want to make money and your company to make money i know that but Nintendo is more greedy or more ambitious than MS or Sony. Even if Sony will sell their exclusives at $70. Right now BOTW cost $46 on Amazon and it was released on 2017. Of course Nintendo will make more profit than MS or Sony that´s obvious. In conclusion low budget and high price the best business model. Low effort and high return. Why should Nintendo change if they can get away with that? Nintendo games could be so much more than what they are now but they don´t need to do that.

Like i said to someone else the only "remakes" ive ever brought is because A) ive never played them or B) the originals are way more pricey then said ÂŁ50 game, just by having a look links awakening plus a game boy/advance is like ÂŁ70 in total, why the fuck would i do that when i get just buy it for ÂŁ39

Because Nintendo fans will continue to always eat up shit no matter how many times it gets pumped out with zero effort for the same price.

Just imagine for one second if Sony released GT1 just emulated the same iso as the 90s for another 60 bucks, if Microsoft did it with Halo.

And if you don't know what either of those games are to imagine ask your girlfriends bull.

Plus i dont get why you have a problem with people lapping up remakes? Everyone lapped up remakes for crash and spyro, dont know how many times capcom has rereleased resident evil 4 in hd, we even got tony hawks afew months ago? Are you pissed at the wii u games getting rereleased on switch or sumit else?

Tbh in sonys case id rather an emulated game then that god awful medevil remake

I thought it looked like a $40 game. But I knew it would come with that Nintendo premium.

No way Metroid: Dread looks like a $40 game. Cuphead was $20 at launch and it was fully and beautifully hand-drawn, and hand-drawing in a game can be quite costly. Even a superb game like Velocity 2X looked miles better and it cost $20 at launch. The only reason could be that the infamous "Nintendo Seal of Quality" has a price.

And by logic, if Metroid: Dread costs $60, how much BOTW2 should cost? $70? $80? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Nintendo has two Wii U games that are sold at nearly full price in the top 10 sales every month. I honestly don't get why Nintendo bothers making any new games - what is the point?

And don't even get me started on the new Metroid, I really wish this game was announced before the whole bitching about Returnal costing $70 crap was going on.
