Why is the black level at LCD's so horrible compared to plasma?

I really hate the PC monitor market right now ..They are getting shafted big time. I recently bought a Samsung PX2370 LED LCD for my PC and my 8 year old Sony GDM-FW900 CRT destroys it in color, contrast & ESPECIALLY black levels (to the point its literally ridiculous).

They need to start incorporating the latest LCD HDTV tech into PC monitors.
Closest I have seen is the Apple Cinema displays. It has a glass screen that is easily wiped off, and its LED backlit with S-IPS tech. However, its edge lit, so black can bleed at times. It puts out a good picture with no ghosting though. Another downside is it only mini-displayport, which you will need a converter to DVI/HDMI.

Another close one i've seen is the Dell Ultrasharp U2711. This one has excellent quality, and is CCFL-backlit. I'm thinking about upgrading to this model, as it really looks nice. Its still edge-lit however.
