Why is there no God of War Collection on PS4?

Serious question... How long can they keep moving it forward? There are moments of each GoW game that are probably less acceptable as society becomes more attuned to the sexualization and misogyny.

On the other hand, the moment in Ghost of Sparta where
you have to push away your daughter
still gets me in the gut every time. That's a good moment.

I love the franchise. But i think the only way i would buy them again is if they released all 6 games as some sort of legacy edition. The 4 PS3 games as well as the 2 PSP games. I wouldnt want anything missing.

I doubt that would happen and at most you would get the 3 main story entries. But if they did release a collection of all 6 games i would get it day 1 for sure.

All of the God of War games prior to 3 (Ascension is there too) are on PS Now. You even got a rental of God of War 1 and 2 upon preordering God of War 3 Remastered.

Wanna get into GoW, but don't have a PS2, PSP, or PS3? We've got you covered with 5 rentals on PS Now and God of War 3 Remastered on PS4 to top you off.
PS Now is fucking garbage though. Expensive too.
Every long running franchise in videogame history is spread across multiple generations, it's inevitable. Are they supposed to re-release these games for every console in the future?

So MGSV being on PS4 and not all the previous games doesn't make sense to you? Are they supposed to port everything to PS4 all the way back to MGS1?

You're talking like releasing a sequel without porting all the previous games to current gen is some kind of exceptional situation.

Maybe they'll be PS2 classics eventually but Sony doesn't seem to be making those a priority.

And yeah, they're on PSnow so you still have that option.

Dude, chill. I don't think OP isn't saying that every game ever made has to come to PS4. I also agree with him that it doesn't make sense that the older GOW titles aren't available on PS4, especially when a new entry in the franchise is around the corner (no, I don't think PS Now counts), and Sony obviously wants to hype the hell out of it, plus bring new people on board to boot. They did it for Uncharted, so why not GOW? It definitely doesn't make sense from the perspective that Sony is leaving easy money on the table, and could bring new GOW fans into the fold. They could be deliberately trying to promote PS Now with them, but again, that didn't stop them from releasing an Uncharted Collection.

The new one is set to be a reboot that distances itself from the hack and slash games so they likely want to avoid putting those old games on PS4 to maintain that differentiation.

By looking at the stoic grizzled chops of Joel from Last of Us and Marcus from Gears of War and thinking that's the kind of male archetype people want to play as. Like kids suddenly prefer to insert themselves into Sully's avatar than Nathan Drake's.

You're right.
But this is not a game made by a third party developer. It's a franchise made by Sony. I think they should offer you access to the old games on new systems. Especially when they release a new game in a series. I mean...just like the VC and Nintendo. You can play all the old Mario games...or Donkey Kong games. And it's not even necessary because the story is not important.
I do have a Ps2. I can buy them again on Ps2 if want but in 2017 this would be ridiculous, imo. Just put them on the store (digital download). Just like the old GTA games.

Yup, agreed. It's definitely something they should do, especially since they can get peeps on the GOW hype train. At the very least, GOW 1, 2, and 3 should be available for folks who want to get caught up. Also OP, the new GOW is not a reboot, and as for it being open-world, I believe there's been some misinformation on that front. I believe Cory Barlog (or possibly someone else) said it wouldn't be open-world at last year's E3. Then recently, it was stated by someone at Sony that it would be open-world. I'm sure we'll find out at E3, but personally, I sincerely doubt it will be a Horizon or GTA style open-world game. More likely, it will have large hub areas that you transition between, as well as more linear sections, sort of like the new Tomb Raider games or Nier: Automata.

I could be wrong, but I just think anything more than that would be too radical a change, and I wouldn't really be on board with it, personally. We'll find out the truth of this soon enough, I suppose.

Ever since that trailer last year I've been wanting to finally get into the franchise.

Between PS+, class action settlements, and a couple sales I've got all these on PS3 and one on PS4 but I'm hoping for an E3 announcement that a PS4 rererelease might come. My PS3 is a netflix machine now in the living room and I don't want to hook it back up in the den!

As much as I'd hate those fucking blades in GOW1, I'd play through the saga again on PS4.

Not Ascension, though. Fuck Ascension.

That was Chains of Olympus.
This is correct. Thanks!

Not the point. The point is that what the avatar does is vile. Like tying one woman to a wheel she can't hold so you can get through a door. (Given my inadequate memory replying to NoKisum, allow for some fuzzy details...)

Isn't Sony's custom to only remaster the games from the last generation? So PS4 only gets PS3 remasters, PS3 gets PS2 remasters, PS5 will get PS4 remasters, etc.?

Well, I just bought the GOW 3 Remaster on PS4 because I thought it was all the games, even the old ones, remastered. I've never played any of the games before so I thought it was a great chance to play them all! Aaaaand I goofed.

My question is, is it ok to just start with 3 remastered on PS4?
