Why isn't Madden On PC?

Does anybody know? I see FIFA, NBA 2k, PES , really pretty much every other sports game franchise seems to be on PC. Is there a reason EA doesn't put madden on PC anymore? I'm a die hard NFL fan and pretty hardcore madden player. Madden seems like one of the very few mainstream franchises that is MIA on PC. So what's going on here??

Bro gamers don't play on PC, that's the only thing I can think of.

It could be some bullshit legal/contract thing, but it's most likely that they just don't think there's a sufficient audience for it on PC relative to consol-

GOD

DAMN IT

It's gotta be pretty easy for them to just port it over from the console versions though right? Back in the day there was a pretty strong die hard community on PC.

This is what they said last year in a gameinformer interview

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featu...questions-for-the-minds-behind-ea-sports.aspx

Are we going to see more EA Sports titles on PC?

Bilbey: PC is literally based on demand. There's still the high demand for FIFA on the PC globally because of the global appetite for the game. I think that's less so with Madden, but I think if that changes and an opportunity presents itself, I think we would definitely leverage the opportunity.

Weber: Yeah, I think with Madden in particular, it used to be a good business, and then it declined and the economics just didn't make sense anymore. Then the compounding problem is that I guess in the last four or five years...as we get away from PC development, it becomes more and more difficult to get back to it. We're open to it; it's just a matter of when's the right time and when does the opportunity make sense.

Bilbey: I think part of the vision you've heard about aligning on Frostbite as a company makes that a lot easier going forward, because Frostbite is a very core PC engine that has the ability to move across consoles, up and down.

So I guess it is whenever they feel like it is the right time to go PC again, who knows when though :/

I know, right? It's pretty "Madden"ing.

Moddin'

I failed at that.

Really, I think EA fears that their games can be easily modded with new rosters and characters... even though they do have Origin.

I think the only reason they still sell fifa on pc is because of the european market. so I suppose madden on pc just didn't sell?

American football is only popular in one country, compared to the other sports that are popular worldwide. And in that one country, I imagine most Madden players are playing on Xbone, the one true home for NFL content.

Also it'd be on Origin only, so that's cutting the playerbase even more compared to Steam

They're probably afraid it wouldn't sell well.

I can understand that fear, and while they'll never truly know unless they bring it out now (Last PC MADDEN game came before the PC renaissance), EA is a very risk averse company.

Only way I could see them taking a shot at it is if another company puts a normal American football or an American football manager game on the PC and it sells well.

There's stuff like Axis Football on Steam, but people won't just buy any game.

Interesting! They moved madden to frostbite this year, so maybe that means it might actually happen soon?
I wouldn't hold my breath. Unless there was a ton of demand for it they're not going to do it. Even FIFA having global appeal the numbers for PC aren't mindblowing.
NHL isn't on PC either
PC gaming is too complicated for dudebros
They put their games out on PC for what, over a decade?

Fifa is only on PC because PC gaming is more popular then console gaming in a lot of countries that like soccer.

Madden probably only sells in Mexico, the US and Canada, and I think all 3 are fairly entrenched console markets.

It's been answered by the producers before. It's because of lack of sales. They put out FIFA every year on PC and it does gangbusters. NFL football is considered a niche sport since only one country really gives a crap so its just not cost effective. While NHL has more countries that care about it, its even a smaller foothold cause its just the countries that play hockey that do

I think its going to change soon though. Origin eliminates the entire manufacturing portion of it and with PC growing as a primary platform, its only a matter of time and the requests for it go up year after year. MUT doesn't matter as to the reasoning. FIFA has FUT and is feature for feature with the console version and it does huge business.

I think they'll do a Madden PC release at some point within the next 2 cycles. I don't really care about Madden personally even though Id buy its return to PC at least the first year, but I really would like NHL to return. Management games like EHM only do so much.

I have a few NHL games on PC, used to play them with a force feedback 2 joystick lol

Had no idea I was a "dudebro" because I play sports games, oh GAF

For NHL didnt they also include national teams?

EA are missing a huge chance. Make hockey, basket and rugby like FIFA. Add national teams and leagues. In the countries where those sports are popular those games would sell millions.

Instead mods have to fill the gap.

I would bet most of FIFA's PC audience is in markets that don't care much for American Football. American Football is popular in the main console territories and they don't lose much by ignoring PC. I would personally be much more likely to pick it up for PC.

Hard to sell yearly roster updates and ultimate team when on PC people are just going to mod rosters

FIFA and PES are on PC, though. That's not the issue. Most of you seem to forget that outside the US, the world doesn't give a crap about American football.

It's just a matter of the market not being there.

The worst part is that Madden PC died right as they were ramping up the online features. As a single player or living room game, it didn't make too much sense, but with a robust online, it would fare better on PC. I think they're afraid of people just updating the rosters and keeping the same Madden for a couple years at a time. People already do that with draft classes and stuff in console Madden. It would be even easier on PC.

Those games get more significant updates and polish than Madden.

I don't think there are lot of "dudebros" in Finland, Russia, Sweden and Czech Republic

Yep, that's the correct answer.

FIFA sure as shit doesn't.

It is pretty obvious, isn't it? Only USA cares about 'murican football and consoles dominate PC gaming in the US. You really can't compare it with football and basketball -- the world's most popular sports.

Their smaller sports games don't make it on PC like NHL, UFC and Fight Night, but I'd have thought Madden to be big enough. Oh well.

Football/soccer has global appeal. Many people around the world don't own consoles and just use standard (non-gaming) PCs to play it, which is why EA and especially Konami tend to try and base the PC versions on last gen engines for as long as they can, so more people can run it.

By and large, these people have zero interest in American football. Ditto ice hockey.

Bro gamers tend to be too stupid to run and maintain a proper gaming PC, and soccer has a more cultured and refined fan base on PC.
