Why Silent Hill 4 isn't in Silent Hill HD Collection

lol Konami.

I'm ok with SH4 though. Would have made the collection more of a "collection" if it included SH4.

SH3 doesn't count as fan fiction?
SH3 follows SH1 more than any other SH game follows another while its major, lasting contribution to the series has been to cause unnecessary confusion with Vincent's "
they look like monsters to you?
" line. Dressing the main character up in sentai clothes, revisiting SH1/SH2 locations (with reason or not), fighting
God (again)
, SH1
character cameo
, introduced Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, and gave the series a cutesy mascot in the form of Robbie Rabbit. Or does it get a pass because it looked pretty?

It "gets a pass" because it had a ton of people who worked on SH1 and 2 behind it, including the same writer behind 2. So it isn't "fan fiction," it's a "real" Silent Hill game.

I wasn't crazy about SH3's connections to SH1 (and I still prefer SH4 to 3 partially because of those connections, despite believing SH3 to be a better game overall), but I think they handled it pretty well. 3's plot didn't answer too many questions (it actually posed a few), and it left plenty up to the imagination.

Well, they could have included SH4 and people could just play SH2 and 3 if they don't like it. I do like SH4 despite its glaring flaws and it could have looked nice in HD.

Oh okay, so it's a staff thing.

Yeah, I think a lot of people tend to hold SH3 in too high of esteem. It definitely is a competent title, but it does so little to actually progress the series in comparison to something like 2 or 4.

What do you mean exactly? If anything, SH3 is the only game in the series that charts actual progress, narrative wise, besides 1.

4 is much more interesting than 3.

It's very flawed but has some really great concepts (that are executed really well on occasion).

Give us Shattered Memories HD.

It looks great and all, but it's almost an exact retread of SH1; from locations, story, characters, and even themes to a degree. It's just far weaker than SH1 or SH2 (even 4) was in terms of what it brings to the table.

edit: If you mean in regards to the cult, maybe. I have never liked the cult, and the more ambiguous, background role it plays the better. How it is used in SH4 is far more effective than how it was used in 3, in my opinion. It gives context to the development of characters and events, but it isn't in your face like it is in SH3.

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but who exactly is this Tomm Hulett guy?

He's the current producer of the series. Yamaoka was the producer from SH3-SH Homecoming. He eventually left Konami and Hulett took over the position. Yamaoka was the last link to Team Silent.

I agree, and that's one of the many reasons Origins falls as flat as it does.

This would be my ranking:
2 > 4 > 1 > 3 > Shattered Memories >>>>>>>>>> Origins >>>> taking a dump >>>>>>>>>> Homecoming

The more he addresses the fanbase, the more I'm convinced Tomm Hulett is absolutely the worst person to be in charge of this series.

/stating the obvious

Well yeah there has never been any doubt about that. His posting on sh forums even comes off as nearly Dyack quality.

I think he's justified here. Silent Hill 4 has always, as far as I've seen, been considered weaker and the point where the series really fell off. It wasn't even designed to be a Silent Hill. Sure, in hindsight, it seems relatively good compared to the fate the series faced after but this collection doesn't need SH4. Hell, Silent Hill 2 alone is worth the price of admission here.

What I'd really love to see is an updated Silent Hill 1 provided, just for the sake of its continuity with Silent Hill 3.

Can see where they're coming from but still would have loved to see it on there. Different from the first three games, but still very good and creepy as hell.

Most horrible collection ever.

Removed the orginal voice work, only features two games. SH4 was a Good horror game which deserves to be experienced.
It also pisses me off that they removed Silent Hill(1) from EU PSN due to not wanting to update some middleware license (and probably why we will not see it for a long time...).

Pretty much. I'm a diehard SH fan, but I will only pick this collection up from the bargain bin.

And while SH4 was not a very good game overall, it still had some amazing amazing parts.

Gotcha, Yamaoka = Silent Hill for me, so if he leaves, the series is over.

I wish Team Siren (formerly Team Silent) would make another horror game, though I'm ok if it doesn't revolve around Siren.

Hey appearantly I'm also not a Silent Hill Fan because I like SH1 and Shattered Memories the most.

At times Silent Hill fans remind me of Fight Club fans... and then I get depressed.

The Room is such an awesome game. Maybe I should bump that thread I made about it at the start of the year.

Since we are listing...

2>1>3>5>0>4>SM :3

I really couldnt care less if SH4 is in the collection or not. It would increase the value of course but SH4 aint the kinda game I would replay unless it got completely reworked.

I like Homecoming more than the original Silent Hill.

3 is still my favorite.

I have replayed all of them in the past 4 months except for origins because I can't find it anywhere, I should probably get a new copy on PSP because the PS2 version price has gone way up.

I'd rather get a reason for SH1 not being on it.

And besides, why not include an "Art of..." of the games, either digitally or as a hardcover book? At least SH2 and 3 deserve as much, and seeing how this should be a re-release of said games, why not further entice buyers to get the collection?

This will scratch my itch to play SH2, when is it coming out?

YOOR TERRINN ME APARRRHHH HULETT!

But nah, The Room wasn't very good. I don't miss it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game based from your avatar ranks lower than The Room. :P

I respectfully disagree with Hullett, i like 4, and i consider myself a "fan".
I get that they're trying to cash in more $$$ possible with the little amount of work possible, but they really had the cance to do something wonderful here:

• Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 and 4 in 1080p, with 5.1 sound and whatnot.
• both original and redone voice work selectable.
• an extra blu ray with tons of HD (when possible) extras, like all the making ofs, soundtracks, artworks, interviews and such.
• a slick cardboard cover, with a good classy art, and maybe some goodie ( a poster or whatever).

They completely throw it out of the window, by releasing this halfassed shit, but i can't say i'm surprised.

Whatever people thought of Silent Hill 4 at release the subsequent fate of the series as handled by clown Konami and their outsource happy new self retroactively makes it a masterpiece.

But that is okay clown Konami, you don't have to include it with anything, I got my old copies all safe. Today I wouldn't take a gold nugget from your hand anyway, with your magic overseas outsourcing touch It'd be sure to turn into a turd nugget before you even let go.

1=2=3=4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> wait let me poke around with a stick in this rhinoceros sized pile of diarrhea, yup, there is the rest of the lot. Ugh, Unreal Engine, better cover this back up again.

2 > 3 > 1 > 4, no idea where origins goes. i gotta play Shattered Memories again, kinda hated the waggle there during the running scenes.

those putting 4 > 3...man, what is going on today. Team Silent weeps, from somewhere.

I disagree. Silent Hill 4 absolutely deserves to be in that "collection." Silent Hill 2-4 were the games Team Silent made for the PS2 so they really should all be included. They really have a distinctly different feel to them compared to the Western-developed ones. (not to mention they are much better). Bundling 4 later with Origins etc. would feel weird.

We all know the real reason anyway. Konami are being cheap, and they don't want to pay for another re-dub for a single release. :/

Konami, delay the collection so you can include 4. Put in the original voice tracks as well, please.

They probably just like a game that had a more original narrative than the rest of the games in the series, or that it isn't a retread of the first game. Or they're diehard HenryxWalter fans. It tends to be one or the other.

It's turned into another one of those "rank the SH games" things, eh?

SH2>>SH1>>SH:SM>>SH4>>SH3>>SH:H>>SH:O

I still like them all, though. Well, I give Origins a bit too much crap, but it was okay.
I'd still rather play any of the SH games than the majority of what's super popular, right now.

Why does everyone always rate taking a dump so poorly? It's not that bad, actually.
