Why the hell doesn't Batman wear a power suit?

Ok, I don't follow comics anymore, but what reason does Batman have to not wear a power suit? He's got as much money as Tony Stark, he's one of the smartest guys on the planet, he's constantly getting shot at, and he has to go into battle alongside people like Superman and Wonder Woman. He's got the means and the motivation to make a power suit. It would seem like super strength, flight, and invulnerability would come in handy in his line of work. But instead, he straps on a Kevlar vest and a utility belt and calls it a day.

In hypothetical future comics, he's always using a power suit, although the explanation seems to be that he's too old to fight without it. But why wait? Ninja skills are great and all, but shouldn't Bruce use every advantage possible in his never ending war on crime? Am I missing something here? Has this been explained in the comics?

Edit: The suit doesn't have to be full on medieval style armor. It can be a light muscle enhancement like Crysis, or even as simple as the shitty suit Jean Paul wore after Batman's back broke.

Who needs a powersuit when your super power is prep time?

For normal crime fighting I don't think he needs it. But when going up against beings like Darkseid, he'd probably be better off with something special.

Those are both from the future. The suit Terry wears was in use towards the end of Wayne's own career, and the suit from Kingdom Come had to be powered because Bruce was basically held together by an exoskeleton after years of abuse.

Because he's a fictional character and that would be off-theme. Batman's supposed to be the Badass Normal, and a power suit would be too sci-fi.

Sorry, but most fictional characters (especially comic book super heroes) don't act according to what makes sense. They act according to what makes a good story.

Batman's mind is his main weapon & defense, he wouldn't normally need any special armor. For those occasions where he does need one, he no doubt has it available. I imagine, though, that there would be hesitance at using it too often lest he winds up using a power-suit so much that he becomes reliant on it.

It's not what people pick up batman stuff to see. He had one briefly in a recent comics sidestory that emulated various justice league powers, but he dropped it for the most part.... actually then I think later in the main story he used a different powersuit...

I'm sure that a powersuit batman could work now but in modern movies they won't do that because they are afraid of being seen as imitating iron man.

It's not at all, Bruce has made plenty of power suits before the BatBey suit. He just chooses not to use them.

It's not "The Batman Beyond suit was his first [power suit]", it's "The Batman Beyond suit was his first [before he gave it to Terry]". It belonged to him first, not it was the first he ever had.

The sentence is ambiguous, but one of the parsings is accurate.

Batman stories revolve around his detective work and his mind during the beginning and during the action sequences stealth and agility.

Power suits are none of those things. They wouldn't help him in his city against his villians with his ability. He dons them every so often when going up against a heavy but Batman is street hero. He spends his days chasing thugs, gangsters and cazy person. His whole point is to be essentially the Captain America (Human in top physical condition).

Ironman is essentially Batman with a power suit and his comics are far from interchangable with Batman comics, writing talent aside.

Iron Man and his suit is all about blowing stuff up and taking massive hits, whilst showboating.

Batman is more stealth-oriented, and while he could probably create a suit with cloaking tech, he prefers not to rely on that sort of thing due to the fact that it could ultimately fail and he may have relied on it too much. We're talking about the man who gave himself a "backup personality" in case he ever lost his mind, so to create a battle suit and wear it as part of the norm would be counter-intuitive. At the end of the day, Batman can only rely one one thing; Batman.

In one of the animated movies he's got a bulletproof suit with a force field, but opted to not use it because deflections could cause bystander injuries.

Too Iron Man.

edit: there is already a billionaire industrialist playboy with power suits gimmick. He's super successful and has a ton of lawyers. One of whom might be the Daredevil.

A power suit has certain liabilities if it malfunctions. There was an episode of Batman Beyond where hacking almost caused Terry to drown. The suit itself was unusable until its software could be rewritten. Computers and machines are just more natural to Tony Stark.

Also, RE: Kingdom Come. Bruce had already exchanged on-foot crimefighting for robots. He doesn't have to be in harm's way if he doesn't need to. I think Bruce could either do robots or on-foot crimefighting, but not both.

If he used a power suit, he wouldn't be Batman. He'd be Batsuit Man. I'm not even being all that facetious. It's like asking why Wolverine doesn't use an M2 Browning. He's Wolverine, not Motherfucker With A Machine Gun Man.
