Why upgrade when the older consoles have more (and better) features?

Because games? I also still have the other systems so nothing is lost.
what games

Nah but seriously I actually returned my PS4 recently because it was so barren of anything that wasn't PC ports or something already on my PS3/360.

Wii U's the only next gen console worth upgrading to right now honestly, then maybe Xbone during November when MC collection and sunset come out.
PS4 seems likes it's gonna be a mid 2015 system at best at this rate.

I only have an xbox one right now because it was a cousins and I bought it for just over half price, mint.

I still have my 360 hooked up and use it at least a few times a week, will probably stay that way for a long time yet.

I have only bought a Wii U so far, but it's getting to be about that time to pick up one of the other big two for me. The fact of the matter is that it is a new generation and these are going to be the main systems going forward. Even though it takes about a good year or so before a new generation really starts to get underway and that is why I think that between now and the holidays is the right time to go ahead make the move. At least for me.

But to your points, I agree that some things are worse right now. I see cons for each system, but there are enough pros to balance it out for me. I am not missing out on the new generation.

Ask us again once you join the fold.

The new consoles have plenty of features the old ones don't.

The most glaring feature missing is 3D Bluray Support. Other than that the PS4 leaves the PS3 in the dust. The XBO also has expanded features and much better Kinect UI navigation, though not as big as a leap as PS.

The only reason I can think of where upgrading seems to make a lot of sense is if you enjoy a lot of Multiplayer titles. Multiplayer communities can be notoriously ephemeral, so it would make sense to get into those games when they're fresh so you can maximize your player experience before the communities shrink to the point that they're harder to enjoy.

Beyond that, it's time and time again seemed smarter to wait for pricedrops, a beefier library, more features out of the gate, and just enjoy what your old console has to offer in the meantime.

The reason to upgrade is that you get acces to games not available on the old systems. Which is also why I have only upgraded to the Wii U so far, since there is imo nothing worth upgrading my PS3 or 360 for yet.

The only Upgrade worth getting right now is the Wii U. It has solid games and actually replaces your Wii and you don't lose any features.

The only reason to buy a PS4 right now is if you are confident you are going to be a Hardcore Destiny player or you love Sony Online's f2p MMOs.

There is currently no reason to buy an XBoxOne.

Not trying to hate on any console here, but, rationally, that's the way it is.

So I am irrational if I see a plenty of reasons to pick up an Xbox One? Interesting.

Please understand, these are new consoles and you can't just port a feature from the old consoles to the new. They must all be build from sratch and tested, Sony and Microsoft will have road maps for the features that are high, medium and low priority and will impliment accordingly.

Yes, to Spend four or five hundred dollars on something that doesn't do half of what it's supposed to and only has roughly two games that you can't play on your 360 is irrational. It's pretty much the definition of irrational.

I got bored with the old toys, sold them and bought new ones.

missing another tower of games in the shot.

Had my 360 and Wii since 2006 (AU launches) and PS3 since June 07 (3 months post AU launch).

That's long enough I think. It was time. I still have them set up though.

Hm, let's see. What if I want to play:

Forza 5
Dead Rising 3
Power Star Golf
Ryse
Killer Instinct

Those are not on my 360. Pretty sure that is more than two games as well. Then of course later this year I want to play:

Sunset Overdrive (also not on my 360)
Forza Horizon 2 (It is on the 360, but without weather, so no thanks)

Then of course it is more powerful for multiplats that are also on 360 and also has features like Snap that I am really looking forward to using. But these are just my reasons, and as such, do not make me irrational in any sense. The value proposition is easily there for me now and especially going forward.

For video games. Couldn't play Second Son or Dead Rising 3 on the PS3/360.

okay just continuing to play devil's advocate here.. I know people that have PS4 and Xbox1, and they still keep going back to the old consoles. From what I've played and heard, Second Son is not that great, nor is Titanfall, nor Killzone, nor Ryse... so again I ask "what's the point?" when so many great games are on ps360?

Please name a few specific games that I must play that are new gen only?

For you, it might not be worth the upgrade. However, other people might find those games more motivating, or might care about the upgrades to the next-gen versions of multiplatform titles.

This is a very subjective, personal thing and nobody's going to convince you if you've already made up your mind.

Calm down bro, no one said you had to be rational. It's video games. I buy every system too.

+1 for including Powerstar Golf. That game is the most surprising of any game I've played during the past year.

Calm down? I am actually very calm, lol. I am merely trying to explain that one is not irrational for wanting to buy one of these systems. There are games out now, plus features and a boost in power that more than justify one doing so. And there certainly are plenty more reasons in the coming months.

well they don't....
I got bored with the old toys, sold them and bought new ones.
I'm having a hard time imagining the situation in which you ,on the one hand be required to sell your previous consoles and games and on the other have the necessity to buy the same console three times over.

Why does it have to be current gen only? Many people, including me, bought PS4 or Xbone to play cross-gen games. I have friends on PSN, I want to keep pilling up my PSN trophies and I want to play the best version of games like Watch Dog. That's why I bought a PS4. Also I know what games are coming in the next few years and I would eventually be a PS4 owner anyway so why don't own it now?

Because you can?

I got it because I wanted it and with the crap i delt that month and half i deserved the both of them.

Almost all games are in FullHD and the controller is better (on PS4). That is enough for me. In terms of gaming the new gen is pretty dry, true, but it's only one more month until the games start rolling, so I'm ok with that.

Voice commands is a huge reason to upgrade, but last-gen graphics and resolution should be making your eyes bleed at this point.

- on ps3 online multiplayer was free, but with ps4 you need to subscribe to a service.
You can thank all the schmucks who paid for Xbox-Live for that shit, buddy.

MS has been making practically free money off of these chump-ass gamers for years. Sony finally said "Well, fuck it then" and decided they wanted their finger in that free money pie too. It fucking sucks, but it is what it is.

At the end of the day WE did this to our selves.

PS4 having party chat has been major draw personally since PS3 doesn't have it.

The PS4 will have its features over time. The PS3 feature set now is not same as it was when it launch back in 2006, so give the PS4 some time.

This is some really basic stuff... And it's pretty cut-and-dry.. No talking points, only questions.

Why are both ps4 and xb1 offering less features than their ancestors? I'm sure there are many examples, but just for clarity:

- games take forever to install on xb1, while on the 360 they were always speedy.

I read somewhere, that you don't install the full game on the Xbox 360, while you do on the Xbox One (somebody please correct me, if I'm wrong). An other explanation would be, that Xbox One games are much larger, than Xbox 360 games, so it obviously takes more time, to install more content.

- on ps3 online multiplayer was free, but with ps4 you need to subscribe to a service.

Sony probably can't afford to offer free servers and whatnot anymore and Xbox Live Gold has proven, that people are willing to spend money for a online service.

- xbox360 games with gold lets you keep your games even if your script runs out, xb1 requires an active subscription.

No explanation for that. I think that sucks, but whatever. Maybe it's the way it is, because Xbox One doesn't have many games, yet.

- ps4 controller can't hold a charge past a few hours while ps3 had good battery life.

That's some serious bullshit on Sony's end. I can't believe they screwed up on this.

I could go on, but really... Why not at least try to duplicate the features we love while giving us more and newer options? Why remove features?

Answers in bold.

That said, I don't own a Xbox One or a PS4, because I can't afford them. They are also currently not worth the money for me, because I don't see any interesting games out there, that I would enjoy playing.

Also, keep in mind, that features on both Xbox 360 and the PS3 weren't there, from the beginning. It just takes some time, until they add some really good feature to the systems. That's just how consoles work these days, so be patient, I guess. :P
