Why would you ever choose a window seat when flying?

Aisle seat gives you

Easier access to the passing by flight attendants
Instant access to the overhead compartment
Instant rest room access
Infinite control over the plebs who chose the inferior window seat

Window seat gives you

A view of the top of the clouds for 10 hours

lol who the hell doesn't want window seats?

Nobody wants to be next to the aisle and have to deal with whatever fools are walking by.

Seeing a thunderstorm from above and at night was one of the coolest things I have ever witnessed.

Window seat forever and always.

Aisle seat gives you

Annoying people walking past
Ass in your face while some 300lb dude gets his gameboy out his overhead bag
View of ugly people for 10 hours
No view of the clouds

The guys who use your headrest to stabilize themselves when walking towards the restroom is one of the main reasons against the aisle seat.

Easier place to rest, nobody walking past you twenty times, nobody hitting your elbows or reading your shit from across the plane, much better view.
Generally far better unless you have the bladder of an infant.

And no, you have no control over anyone.
The window person can walk by and put their ass in your face as many times as they want and all you can do is smile and cry on the inside.
"Control".
First to the overhead? You mean first to have balls to the grill while others grab things from above you and you sit on the aisle.
Then first to get up and get in line while window person smartly relaxes and waits for the herd to clear before getting up and getting their things and exiting.

Aisle seats for life, thanks.

I agree with the OP regarding longish flights, but for shorter ones those advantages don't mean much so I'd rather have the view.

How much do you need drink, god damn?

Instant access to the overhead compartment
stop being fussy, place a small bag under the seat with your MP3 player and shit that you need and sit still mother fucker. What do you need to be so fussy blocking? sit down

Instant rest room access
empty your tank before getting on the plane, and stop drinking so much!

Infinite control over the plebs who chose the inferior window seat
i want window because I have only one human to one side to contend with and my other side has peace and quiet and STFU I love clouds.

this man knows what he is talking about, it's all about peace and quiet. Not elbows and hand ruffling on your head rest

I have no strong preference. Aisle seat makes me feel a little less cramped, but then I have to deal with people bumping into me as they walk by.

No one steps on your feet on the way to the bathroom in a window seat.

Or having that fucking drink cart next to you while the person across the aisle fishes for the cash to get a gin and tonic.

The reality is that when you get a plane without middle seats, everybody wins.

I have motion sickness, I must look out during takeoff and landing or my lunch is on my lap (again). Also I love watching clouds.

If it's a flight under 2 hours I don't really care.

But if it's over (I regularly take flights to Taiwan and back from the UK) 2 hours then window seats are a must:

1) You don't get woken up when the other person wants to get up
2) I have a strong bladder so I only really need to piss 2-3x on a 12 hour flight
3) I can rest my head on the wall (although it's still fucking uncomfortable)
4) You can see out of the window, something that's especially awesome when going over the Tibetan plateau

If you know you're not going to get up

You can lean up against the window area

The underseat compartment infront of you is actually larger than the aisle (actually, aisle is smaller than the middle and window for some reason). You can fit a bag down there, but your feet wont be able to fit if you're sitting in the aisle.

overall, window is more comfortable, but it's all about being able to stand up when the plane lands that makes me sit aisle everytime.

What? 90 seconds of not being able to get out that a window seat has to deal with anyway is the deal breaker? :)

Easier, but safer? What if your heavy head breaks the window sucking everyone out of the plane?

What if you fall asleep in the aisle seat and your head slumps off towards the aisle then somebody walks by and accidentally bumps into your head with their giant cack, knocking your head clean off?

Planes are death traps.

I always ask for window seats. Love them. Particularly if I'm taking off/landing during daylight. I got some neat pictures from my window of the english countryside a few years ago. I like flying. Not being able to look outside makes me feel like I'm on a large bus. :(

I like being able to have my own corner with something to hold my interest if I don't want to socialize with people beside me. I'm also small so getting up to use the restroom isn't a pain. Plus I love getting the free offered black coffee and a sweet biscuit at the beginning and then zoning out for the rest of the flight with a good book. I enjoy the sunshine and I don't really like being disturbed when flying.

Are you kidding? All I do when I get on a flight is pop in ear plugs, take a benadryl, tune everyone out and sleep from take off to touch down (or gate-to-gate if I'm lucky). Window seat is perfect. Great place to rest my head, don't have to move when the interior seats want to get up and nice view if I want it.

Less than 4 hour trip=Window
More than 4 hours=Aisle

True.

Long flight, 20 inches more leaning, shoulder room and privacy and in exit row or 1st class, fewer drawbacks. I usually go aisle though. More than 100k per year.

Always the Aisle cause I am 6.3" and I better leg room on long flights, and like OP you access the rest room easy plus you get up whenever you want, cause I am athlete I like get every 30 minutes- 1 hr on long flights.
