Wii Dragon Quest Collection will include Dragon Quest X footage

Why?
Horii himself said that the game would be more in line with DQ8 than 9.

I mean look wise, I think it will look a lot better than DQVIII. Isn't that what he was saying? Maybe I misread.

The boxart for the collection looks superb. I'd buy it just for that alone. (And the DQX footage which will be uploaded to youtube probably the day of release.)

What else do we know?

Not much.

Nintendo Power: Do you see any advantages to making Dragon Quest on a home console again?

Yuji Horii: The next Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest X, will actually be released on Wii. I feel that some users will want to play Dragon Quest on the big screen, which is why we are working toward releasing it on Wii. Of course, in the future we might develop on handhelds again, so it's really a case-by-case basis. It all depends on what the customer wants at that time. Something else we hear is that players want a new Dragon Quest that follows the same system of Dragon Quest VIII, so that's something else we're taking into consideration while in development for a Dragon Quest on Wii.

Before I get mobbed here, I was talking purely from a graphical standpoint. Though it looks like I'm already too late.

Ehh...I don't see why there's a 100% it won't look like DQ8 graphically. What's far fetched about it being cel shaded and realistically scaled?

They were on the last parts of the game a while ago.

I said it wrong I me technically it will look superior to DQVIII even if it uses the same style.

I thought the guy was making a The Wii can' put out a better looking game than the PS2 Joke =C

Famicom Shinken Guide Reprint
A reprinting of a classic guides for DQI, II and III, totaling 130 pages. This was produced with the cooperation of Shueisha. The content is unchanged from the original versions.

This part is really exciting to me. My DQ3 guide was lost in a house fire, so I'll be happy to finally get it back in new condition.

Of course Wii is more than capable of putting on better visuals than PS2. Problem is that it still requires effort and resources to make games look good. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of DQVIII assets sneak their way in to DQX. More so the fact that SE forgot how to make video games on time this generation.

*high five*

I don't mind DQ8 graphics for DQ10, but please make battles LOTS faster and have a modern save system. I don't have lots of time playing games at home these days. Thank you very much.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic or naive, but I really doubt that that would happen.

Also we don't know who is developing the game yet do we, I remember a rumor going around but not about who?

This. I know the church saving system is supposed to be "traditional" and all, but it winds up just being frustrating. :/

Mario Collection: ¥2,500
DQ Collection: ¥4,400
lol

At least there's some pretty decent pack-ins for DQ Collection.

But yeah, there's always the Square-Enix tax obviously...

No, they should leave the church as the only save method. It adds strategy to the game, and there is a quick-save if you just want to take a break.

I agree with this. I am all for traditionalism, with some way to quick-save.

Why not? I doubt we'd get advanced shaders or anything like that so PS2 assets should fit the overall game world aesthetic.

Dragon Quest VIII and XI pushed the systems they were on to the limits, I expect no less of DQX.

Like NOA was going to localize it anyway, haha.

I wouldn't say it would be impossible that NOA wouldn't localize it. They are pushing the Dragon Quest franchise extremely hard in the NA market.

So DQX is definitely coming co the Wii?

There was never a doubt it wasn't, or a reason to believe it would go to another system.

Haha. It's not as if the poly count of the enemy character models of DQVIII were lacking. They were fine in that category. Reuse models but with higher resolution textures and it should fit right in if they keep the same aesthetic.

How I expect DQX to look is to pretty much look like DQVIII, only with a much more detailed world and a higher populated world. I expect to see character models with comparable poly counts and the game to remain cell shaded, only with a much more refined look (like Skyward Sword).

Man, I'd buy it. Right nizow.

I'd say it could still be ported to WiiU.

zoner said:
Yes. Though they've had rumors of them adding some sort of WiiU bonus, but it's been a Wii game for many years now

That was a mistranslation, it's not.

I'm not saying it isn't possible that there will be re-used assets, I just don't think they will.

This is one of the biggest franchises in Japan, and it has been in development for years. We haven't gotten a single hint at what it looks like, so I should expect they want to wow us with it's reveal.

I don't see SE requiring much effort to top DQ8's graphics. I mean, just look at DQ Swords Wii, even with a low budget title like that there are already graphical elements that are better than DQ8 in many ways. I expect DQX to be much better given the much longer development time.

The collection package sounds great. Here's hoping that NA will get something for the commemoration as well.

That will get messy once again... Dragon Quest or Dragon Warrior now? :D

Thank God XD Love DQ8 <3

One of the reasons I bought a Wii. DQ 8 is one of my favorite JRPGS of all time. Even bought Swords too. I have no doubt DQ9 is amazing, but I have a limited budget and couldn't afford a DS. I'm actually broke right now. Even if it looked like DQ8 I don't give a shit. Loved, loved that game. Just give me DQ10

thank god we live in the age of the internet and youtube. Can't wait to see what this game looks like, actually it will probably look remarkably like DQ8. Wouldn't it be amazing if DQ 10 does what 9 was originally supposed to with real time battles and wifi multiplayer! I'd love that change finally being realized.

Just a question/thought: is it even conceivable at this point to imagine a dragon quest game selling poorly at this point? It seems like the franchise long ago reached god status and now even when japanese gamers complain about a certain faery companion, the game still breaks sales records. I wonder if the long delay, possible gameplay changes, and maybe, just maybe, being on limited hardware might actually hurt the game's reception? I'm not trolling or trying to start a fanboy argument, I'm personally very excited about the game. But I wonder if its even realistically imaginable to think that the DQ series might go the way of the Final Fantasy series, ie FF XIII's critical reception/post mortem and long delays to Versus and Agito/type-0 which may hurt their reception as well.

As long as it is still in the hands of Horii, and charater design is still Toriyama and music is still Sugiyama, then I would say no.

DQ8 was already quite a big departure from the series, but the sales were still pretty healthy in Japan. DQ9 even more so a departure, and look at the sales. DQX will likely be back to the traditional single player focused game again which lots of fans have been dying for, therefore I think the game will surely once again fly off shelves.
