Wii Fit Trainer announced for Super Smash Bros.

No F-Zero characters though cause Sakurai never worked on it and it doesn't sell.

Looks like characters are getting in by "sales figures" now, not whether they'd be a good fit

Wii fit did sell to a lot of people, do you think the average Wii fit owner who would normally pass Smash by, are now more inclined in any way shape or form to give Smash a try?

Rob, G&W and Ness are reasonably interesting cartoon characters where as wii fit girl looks like an illustration from a safety manual. Yes this is subjective I know.

The wii sold a lot and in the every Wii news channel is a little black cat, there is also a little safely man that appears when you start up the wii or a game if I remember correctly.

True it was an entertaining intro and it does help sell the character, but for the people who don't really pay attention to E3 she is not really going to be a selling point imo.

Were people this angry when G&W/ROB were revealed? I mean, they took spots that could've went to Isaac! Or, or Ridley! Or King K Rool! !!!

She's an addition to the cast, she's not replacing/taking someone else's space. I like quirky, out-of-nowhere characters. I'd be a little bored if the new characters in the game were just the top 15 characters in a most requested characters poll.

I think it's got as much to do with overall vibe of the thing as anything. The main problem with All-Stars was probably that it didn't feel cohesive, but Smash manages... somehow.
 
Whoever says Villager is a wasted slot is mental. His moves, especially the one where he puts projectiles in his pocket, are god tier!

But that's not the Wii Fit girl.

The Wii Fit Trainer is an actual character in the Wii Fit products. She's not a "random" silhouette. She's an actual person who does instruction videos and has been constant and represents a hardware much like how ROB and MGW represent their hardware.

And notice how Smash does their characters - they do not simply go "look at how epic we are with the cliche slow walk" in how PSA did their presentation. Smash manages to make them more cohesive and actually active. They manage to make a random, non-fighting character actually visually pleasing and exciting.

I think they're great character choices. The 3 newcomers look really good, and I'm already planning on trying to main the Villager and Wii Fit Girl. Can't wait what other characters they have in store for us (just no Mii, please).

I wouldn't say it's all that weird. Smash has always had a great roster of characters, and Wii Fit Trainer definitely has a place in it, even if as a niche character.

A fighting game clearly can't be made out of Wii Fit Trainers, though. Marios and Links are necessary.
 
One thing I'm now realizing was so brilliant about this reveal, is that if they'd announced it at ANY other point - there would have been lethal outrage. If this game up on the Dojo while people were waiting for Ridley/Geno/etc to be confirmed, they would be really frustrated. If they'd put it in the announcement trailer - people would get a wierd initial impression of the game (You aren't able to really naturally edit in the Wii Fit reveal into the Direct trailer. The big after-trailer reveal was Megaman). If they'd kept it secret until launch - people would be pissed that their favorite was "snubbed" over a joke character.

But no. They announced it out of the blue, when we had zero reason to think a character announcement was coming - yet we were still paying the maximum amount of attention. Absolutely brilliant timing.

Get ready for every character reveal for smash to have exactly the same reaction every single time. Goes with the territory. I love this character.
 
I love the character, and in my opinion it fits *perfectly* with the tone of the series.

Sony has so much to learn for their next battle royale game.
 
I like how the current roster consist of characters that all play and act completely different from each other. I hope they keep that up.

This makes a hilarious joke character because there was so much active dislike of wii fit back when it was relevant. Trolling > apathy.


It also oddly... kinda has personality because it's so different from the likes of mario and link and such.
 
Wow some of you, really. This is this game's Game & Watch. It's a funny addition, and a nice one to troll friends who dismiss these characters with.

Also, this character probably didn't need too much dev time or budget. I mean, take a polygon/wireframe fighter they had, add simple colors (no big texture work) and the moves are referenced from something pre-established, Yoga. There is a basis to the moveset and there's some time to think of ways to implement them but it's not like creating new moves for other characters.

I know it's youtube comments, but I don't want to picture Sakurai or anyone at Nintendo having to read comments so bad they actually had to block them.
 
Hilarious and creative, I would have never thought of this but it's actually a pretty decent match. That and it adds another female character to the roster.

I don't know about G&W but man were people pissed about ROB. I wasn't on Gaf then, talking about other places. Everyone had their hopes up for all kinds of characters and then they got crushed by something they didn't see coming. Nintendo is good at this sort of thing.
 
Wii Fit Trainer looks fucking awesome, and the trailer was hilarious. I can't believe people are actually upset about this.

Okay, I can, but I still think it's stupid that they are.
