Wii Fit Trainer announced for Super Smash Bros.

Buying it because of this.

I'm going to buy this game on my 3DS and make love to it.

I still don't understand the hate for Wii Fit Trainer... or rather, I do understand it, but I don't get the irrationality.

I only read GAF, and I feel like for the most part we love Wii Fit Trainer. Is there a lot of hate for the character elsewhere on the Internet?

Is there a high-res version of the poster lying around. I looked in the Smash Bros Wii U E3 press kit but could only find the Village and Mega Man ones.

I also liked how Mario's arms are too short to do the pose correctly.

She's probably gonna turn out OP as hell just for the heck of it.
Character strength proportional to sales numbers? So what was that, Wii Fit > Mario > Pikachu > Animal Crossing...

Funnily enough, Samus could actually be a better fitness trainer due to the Chozo DNA.

Or maybe not, people will die in those fitness classes.

Check again. I'm not at my computer right now, so I cannot verify whether you will find that poster in there, but they updated the Super Smash Bros. folder after she was announced. Try clicking on the corresponding link in the right column.

Its an approach to the casuals.

Next challenger YOUR Mii
Fuck.
I imagine a reveal trailer for a Mii being a special app available on the eShop where the trailer is actually real Time graphics, where Mario, Kirby, Pikachu and Link do something or other, then YOUR ACTUAL MII WITH YOUR FACE jumps in with the caption "YOU are joining the fight!"

That would be the actual best thing that could ever happen to Ssb.

I guess the only thing that bugs me about WFT is that she looks so placeholder by design, but her animations really bring her to life so that's alright.

This is great, but I only assume that Fawful isn't in the game because we're getting a full RPG with Fawful as the main character, right?

I love Geoff Keighley's reaction to this:

Move to 2h 51m 18s to see it. It's right after his Reggie interview.

Maybe someone can capture it and load it up on YouTube?

I think a lot of people have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Smash is to Sakurai and a large chunk of the fans, and it's not surprising that Geoff is one of those people. In the context of Smash being a tribute to all aspects of Nintendo, WFT makes perfect sense.

The people that are mad about this are probably the same people that want a "mature" and "realistic" Zelda game. As if that would even make sense.

Ya gotta lighten up, and remember that Nintendo is all about ridiculous shit and whimsy and making fun of themselves. Super Smash Bros. has never been serious and I hope it never will be. It's got fucking Mario and Pikachu beating the shit out of each other. It's not edgy or cool or tough, it's wacky and fun. Wii Fit Trainer is a much better addition than sempai from your fav JRPG.

This franchise has officially jumped the shark. Sure the trailer makes her look like she has personality. But if they can do that with a non-character, wouldn't you prefer them to turn that talent on someone interesting instead?

Like who? No matter who you choose, she is going to be more popular and known.

Interesting is subjective though. You can pretty much use that argument to any character you don't like.

Exactly. Stuff like this is part of what makes Smash so lovable - it's the random picks that at first sounds weird, but when you think about it, it all makes sense... all while presenting them in an over-the-top, non-serious, all-hands-barred presentation. It's not some random picks like a Rabbid or something doing the slow walk as though it's meant to be a parody of something badass.

Yah. This should totally happen.

It's an iconic nintendo character. Everyone knows her now. She has more her place in here than snake or even Fox.

The unexpected is part of Smash's appeal. Sure, many characters will be things you expect to see, but then Sakurai surprises you with a character you wouldn't dream about. I've actually learned a ton of things about Nintendo's history through Smash Bros. -- just consider that I had no idea who R.O.B. was when I saw him (I hadn't unlocked him in MKDS at the time), and he ended up being one of my mains.

And in the end that's what makes this game so amazing. It's not just a fighting game; it's an uncompromising love-letter to all things Nintendo that you could probably never fully foresee. Literally anything could happen.

I like the aspect that since she was no obvious traits gamers are begining to create one for her, thats what is gonna make her a fan favorite over time, kinda reminds me of the companion cube on Portal.

Did the lady suggested that Geoff become a character? What a fucking joke.

How is it jumping the shark? She's just as much a Nintendo character as Mario, Link and Samus. The fact that they can give so much personality to a "non-character" is amazing to me.
Hell even the internet is joining in on giving her a personality

People are funny. A lot of people dismissed Sony Smash because the characters were not really fan favourites and I can understand that but then Nintendo adds this "character" to smash and its gobbled up. So weird.

I don't think Sony ASBR's problem was that people don't care about Sony characters. Although Nintendo has the upperhand in popularity, Smash Bros would be just as forgettable as SASBR (or even that Brawl-based TMNT fighter) if Sakurai brought as little imagination, creativity and craftsmanship to Smash as those teams brought to those games.

Luckily, the guy is a genius and can pretty much make any reference or source material fun and interesting. Just look at how he revived Kid Icarus for 3DS. The original NES game made no indication that a modern sequel was going to be that fun and innovative.

So I really don't question what he decides to put into Smash...it's probably going to be really well-done.

The majority of Nintendo characters barely even talk so they don't display much personality either. People just happen to like the games they are in. At least Wii Fit Trainer has a voice. Besides, if R.O.B. and Mr. Game & Watch can work, why not Wii Fit Trainer?
