Wii Sports Resort

I don't know, but in the official trailer the guy is just "pedaling" without any kind of steering whatsoever and the biker takes corners on auto pilot.

Now that I think about it, you can zig zag a bit in Wii Fit when you're jogging, but you're not in control of it at all. I guess we'll have to wait and see to be sure.

I played that mode at E3 and it was just as awesome as it looks. The bridge fight mode reminded me so much of the side-scrolling action sequence in the film Old Boy.

You're killing me.

What's the (U.S.) release date on this game? I had always assumed it would be out the same month as the M+ but I've seen some people mention that it won't be.

July 26th. Sort of odd that there is such a differential. I ended up with two M+'s as gifts, so now I will need to give one away when WSR releases... Perhaps their plan assumed situations like this would happen :p

It should be in stores on July 27th.

Honestly, people would hate to say it, but there's no reason why, in terms of experience, Wii Sports Resort should not or could not be a GOTY candidate.

For a lot of people, it could easily be the defining Wii experience.

Wii GOTY, sure.

It's almost criminal that the hype for this is so low amongst enthusiast gamers.

That's because it doesn't have Sony's name on it. Once Sony brands their waggle controllers and releases something similar then all the "enthusiast gamers" will be going nuts. Just look at what happened at E3.

Ya, it's pretty crazy that the game media was so hyped about Sony's copycat wands that have no name, when Wii Motion+ is out and essentially just as good.

Or its because we don't all live in a bubble and think a bunch of mini games should be something we should get super excited about.

Or it could be we are all sony bots :P

unfortunately i don't think it will be recognized as even a candidate.. the gaming journalists won't let it (hope i'm wrong though).. i see something like red steel, conduit, (or my guess) nsmbwii taking it away

Lest it be forgotten, video games are for FUN. Just because Wii Sports Resort is a compilation of minigames does not invalidate it as a real game, because it looks to be, and is being reported as, a huge boatload of fun.

I'm personally excited about it. I had to bite off temptation of spending money on the ea sports line with the wii motion +. All I was saying is that I can see why the majority of GAF aren't. Not everyone had that magic moment with friends around the tv having a blast with Wii Sports. Unfortunate, yes. Lack of it being a sony item? No.

Thats because they dont have any friends.

The game media obviously still shuns the Wii because it's not HD, and therefore not "for them", which may be why they seem to be showing favouritism to the unnamed Sony wand over the Wii Motion+.

I bought into Tiger Woods M+ because I figured that I would need 2 to get the most out of Wii Sports Resort anyways.

I think even using the term 'minigame' is so full of shit. How the fuck do you expand events like archery? Every 'game' in Wii Sports Resort is represented by a base example 'game', and on top of that various challenges and other extra features, and also multiplayer.

I think its less on expanding upon events like archery, but instead incorporating that mechanic into a game that we have come to expect in this day and age.

I wonder if Nintendo will sell these games individually on Wii ware once the wii motion plus package has been in the wild for some time.

edit: Imagine if they upcharged for early access? Who here wouldn't pay $15 for ping-pong motion +

And yet all Sony showed was a collection of demos that could be called a collection of mini games........

Listen all I'm saying is really promising shit was shown with Wii Sports Resort and M+ is out, WSR will be out in a month. No one gave 2 shits, Sony showed basically the same fucking demos and half this board shit its self and went "OMG now Motion controls are cool!"

I think everyones just waiting for WSR to come out. We know all the games in it . . . we just want to play it now!

JPN-Gaf will start the hype-train next week I guess.

I'm looking forward to kendo, disc golf, and airplane the most...oh, archery, table tennis, and jetski look awesome too.

Na, it's a great game that should be nominated at various publications. I was referring to the games listed form the post I quoted.

I'm less drunk now. I'm not sure where I was going with that bubble shit. I think I was just trying to reason the lack of hype with the rest of gaf, but I'm not sure why.

Archery, Kendo, Table Tennis, and Golf are what I'm looking forward to. I really wish Square Enix would just make a Bushido Blade Wii using M+.

Or better yet, how about expanding the Wii Sports + idea into Wii Adventure/RPG territory where they use the mechanics created, along with some new ones, in an adventure rpg where your Mii is the star.

I think that would be a kick ass nintendo game. Especially if they got some of the level designers from the Zelda and Mario games.

Dam straight, I think we will see something like this. Miis of your selection could also be the NPC's.

That'd be a pretty cool idea. I wish they would do more with the Mii's.

Look guys, stop complaining about no one giving a shit about Wii Sports Resort. These "hardcore gamers" are a small minority, this game will be the biggest hit of 2009.

FFS, its not the same - WM+ only tracks orientation, not position/location - sonys thing does both - wm+ type thing for orientation, eyetoy tracking for location in 3D space. wii relies on the pointer for position tracking and I don't think thats absolute space, just distance and pointing

Anyway, you could also argue that Nintendo promised all this originally, and they are only just catching up to that now with an add-on.

Regardless, a ton of people are looking forward to WSR - including me. A good experience is a good experience. and its clear that even with orientation only, it will improve a lot of things.

Heh, and I would have replaced conduit (which was only there so i could have three) if I had remembered it while typing the post :D

Just for some perspective, by 'enthusiast gamer' you mean 'GAF'. GAF are tiny subset of the group enthusiast gamer.

Anyway, after having played a metric tonne of Grand Slam Tennis over the last few weeks I'm super excited to find out what fun Nintendo have managed to extract from WMP+.

He said essentially. Most games are likely going to use relative motions rather than absolute positions because most houses are different sizes with different objects in the way and most people aren't actually going to want to run and jump around their living room avoiding coffee tables and sofas to play a game.

For standing up/sitting down and swinging your arms, they are essentially the same.

This.

I like motion controls, but the day I have to duck to avoid things and shit like that is when I'm done. :lol

Maybe it has something to do with the console it's compatible with? Dunno, just guessing.

A new add on already? DAMMIT NINTENDO

The EyeToy/PS3 motion control has an easier time of it thanks to the giant bulb, but as long as the wiimote is pointing toward the sensor bar the principle behind detecting the location is the same: a camera gets a visual of the placement of lights, and from that determines relative location.

The wands have gyros? Wonder how much they will be - will be pretty expensive to manufacture I guess.

I think because it's the other way round (camera is in the Wiimote, lights on the TV) people don't really see it's comparable tech - basically Sony's way of getting around patents I guess.
