Wii U bundle with Super Smash Bros + Splatoon for $249

You either don't care at all for the system and probably will never get it even at $150 or you are just cheap.

The system is $130 right now and you still complain.

If you've seen Beysus post in other Nintendo threads, the answer should be quite obvious. ;)

Right now the WIi U is only attractive to people who like Nintendo. And around the holiday season it's about best bang for the buck. You say you can't play these games anywhere else which is true.

Or those of us with a PC that performs better than the next-gen twins. PC + Wii U, yum.

I don't know anyone in 2015 who doesn't have a spare External HDD laying around they couldn't reformat for the Wii U.

Got to love those goal post's.

Or those of us with a PC that performs better than the next-gen twins. PC + Wii U, yum.

Such a mature response, I have a gaming PC and a PS4, and want to get a Wii U just for Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, and Mario Kart. But those are the only games that interest me, maybe smash, so for 250 dollars for a system I will need external storage for, which I don't have and external just lying around to use since theya re being use for my work laptop and gaming Desktop, I would have to spend 50+ dollars unless i find a black friday deal.

So there's an added expense. PS4 and Xbox are giving away multiple games that are physical copies, and extra controllers for 50 dollars more.

People complaining about a bundle like this just seem plain ignorant. No matter what price Nintendo put on this bundle you had no intentions on getting it regardless.

To be fair, as time goes on, the perceived value of the system and its games decrease over time...especially when you compare it to the XB0 and PS4 deals

I gave my Wii U away after finishing MK 8 and Pikmin 3...

Thinking about getting one again for Xenoblade. Not really interested in the other games. Will get the new Zelda on the NX. But the base console is just too expensive for what you get in return imo.

It has nothing to do with being cheap. I just don't like to waste money.

If Xenoblade NX was rumored, I wouldn't care for the Wii U at all anymore. The future prospect of the console is just tragic. Like, seriously tragiqué.

I honestly don't see the value of the PS4 bundle. Uncharted Collection doesn't have the multiplayer and I've already played the games, so I'm still putting out another $100 for PS Plus and new games to play (Bloodborne + Old Hunters DLC, Until Dawn, Infamous...)

With this bundle, I'm saving $50, online is free, and I get two new games that will be played for hours on end.

I want both consoles, but WiiU has the higher value right now.

I'd half think about it if it was $199. Really though, I probably won't dip into that system until it's completely defunct and I can pick it up inexpensively.

Depending on your definition of inexpensively, this probably isn't going to happen. PS3 shit 12GB version and 360 are still $199 MSRP, and there's not anywhere selling them for much less. That's with no bundle.

I don't have a spare external HDD laying around.

Edit:

This. And rightfully so.

It's like they think everyone should be buying one because "they" think it's a great deal? When compared to other systems, and Nintendo consoles in the past it's really not.

Okay, but what do I need a PS4/XB1 for? Their best games are rarely console exclusive.

I wonder if Nintendo will ever get their traditional $200 price point back or is it just unsustainable now (for example not accounting for inflation the Famicom hardware cost less yen than many games do today).

Might have gotten this if the system wasnt region-locked.
I have to ask here what games do you want to play that are not out in your region?

That isn't defending the region lock or anything it is just there is so little unavailable as far as retail games go.

You...finished MK8? ^^

I'm surprised you got a wii U at all if multiplayer games couldn't even last a year for you. I sure wouldn't get one to begin with if Smash, Splatoon, Kart, etc got boring after a few months or less.

EDIT:
eh, why even post in these threads...

Most people are speaking from the point of view of having played the games. They're not necessarily making direct comparisons with what the competition is offering.

They see a $130 console plus two full priced games are worth full price. Or, heck, maybe $150 with two games discounted $10 each.

No one is saying it's the best deal possible. We've all accepted that Wii U in general is overpriced purely by design. But, honestly, I think this bundle is better than most of the Wii U bundles we've seen before, especially the $320 MK8 bundle.

Wow, someone is actually weighing the values of the gaming experiences rather than the pure dollar values of what's included.

Astonishing!

The taiko games. Not really interested in nintendo's franchises

Competition is offering more than just first party games, third party games, they also do more than the Wii U.

Right now the WIi U is only attractive to people who like Nintendo. And around the holiday season it's about best bang for the buck. You say you can't play these games anywhere else which is true.

It's only appealing to a specific number of traditional Nintendo fans from the 10 million sales its earned. Not only is it half the GameCube numbers ,but you can see a lot of dissension from many jaded Nintendo fans.

That makes it the worst kind of region locking as there too little to justify specifically importing the hardware.

Wonder why that franchise never made it to the PS3 and just ended up on Nintendo systems (it went PS2>Wii>Wii U as far as home releases go)
unless it is to do with waggle=drumming
. At least with Puyo Puyo Tetris (which is another notable JP only game in my eyes) the game is out on multiple systems without region locks.

It's not 130 dollars when I have to buy extra storage because those 2 games take up over half of the storage it comes with. I paid 149.99 for my gamecube and was able to get a bunch of games and had a longer shelf life with it then the Wii U will have. After 2016 it's pretty much dead. I bought my Gamecube in 2003 for 149.99, and they were releasing game slike Resident Evil 4 Battillion wars, Twilight princess 2-3 years later.

If you only want to play a small bunch of games then go ahead and pay 250 dollars for a system where a lot of the great games are not even in physical print anymore. If your a Nintendo fan, or nostalgic person I guess get it. But if your someone who want his money worth for 250 when other systems are giving you more value past 1 year life cycle wise it's not worth it at that price point.

Then IMO that just falls into the 'I really don't care about the system' point of view. $250 for all the games that have been released is not that much. People spend way more for experiences that last hours. What I mean is no one at this point is expecting a lot of life out of the system, but it already has great games and that$250 price point, which inlcudes 2 of the better games is a steal.

Instead of a snarky, overused gif response, why not answer the question? Because from my POV I don't see the value in either PS4 or XB1 bundles either and the Nintendo exclusives are way more interesting and attractive to me.

No because his first response was dumb saying Yum at the end of it, like "PC ELITE" anyone who likes PS4 or XBox or a combination of PC and PS4 are peasants. And if you read his comment he wan't to get into list wars. WHich I'm not going to do, which is why I put the gif.

He's baiting me into a list war, I'm not going to do that.

You obviously didn't follow my information post I put up, where there are quite a few of these great games that you can't even buy anymore at retail. You have to pay full price for digital or buy them for 79$ like pikmin 3 from some third party seller on amazon. So if you have to buy 3D WORLD and bayonetta 2 digitally for 59.99 your going to need an external. So your value your talking about automatically goes out the window.

If I didn't care about those games or the system I wouldn't have brought up gamecube or be in this thread. I posted the games that interest me that I can't play anywhere else. But don't feel 250 dollars plus and external drive is worth the price for 4-5 games.

The rest of Wii u's library are getting harder to find new, hyrule warriors isn't available at Gamestop, and still is 59.99 on amazon, and Bestbuy. Game should be 29.99-39.99 since it's over a year old.

I should be able to buy a lot of these great games for cheap since some of them released 2013. But you can't find them new retail, and ones they have through third party sellers are asking ridiculous prices for.

Might have gotten this if the system wasnt region-locked.

if you keep your system at 5.5, 5.5 homebrew will enable region free one way or the other.

(I can play out of region and latest games on 5.3.2 (Inject Virtual Console games with my own), have eshop and online, right now. 5.5 will get that and more.)

Keep in Wii U auto-updates on WiFi. (I set the DNS used for Youtubehax on 3DS, updates are blocked just fine)

This. People saying this is some sort of good or great deal are delusional.

What would be a good deal, then?

It sounds like some people want:

Wii U System w/Gamepad
Splatoon (physical)
Smash 4 (physical)
Xenoblade X (physical)
Extra Wiimote + Nunchuk or Pro Controller
External HDD included
$25-$50 eShop Card

$200

Not going to happen.

It is a great deal. I don't understand how Hyrule Warriors still being full retail price somehow makes it not a good deal. Obviously if you don't want any of the games for it, DON'T BUY THE SYSTEM, but it is a good deal. What is going on in this thread?

damn no pickup option?

I would buy this even if it was onlu online if they took out splatoon and put in mario maker, bayonetta or mario kart.

it IS a good deal, just not the "OMG! im fucking buying now!" impulse deal you were expecting, Splatoon and Smash are great games full of content you wont find anywhere else, and, if you search well, you can find a lot of cheapish Wii U titles, but you have to at least try to not devaluate the system that much.

in the end, they could go lower ($200 for this would be a very sweet deal) but the same people will complain its not enough because they were not interested in the first place unless it was literally a throw away sale.
then why not just buy it used from one of your friends or something:p

edit:maybe not Hyrule Warriors but try Bayonetta and Wonderful 101, great games at lower price.

It's a great deal for Nintendo fans that have not taken the plunge and purchased a Wii U. If Nintendo games are not your thing and you want a robust third-party lineup, then there is no value here. As I said earlier, value varies person to person. I have found great value with the system and there are still games I want to purchase for it.

But like I posted earlier a lot of them are not even in print anymore, and the ones that are, are full price 59.99 when they should be cheaper on a system that's on it's way out.

Especially when there are games from 2014 on PS4, XBox one that are 19.99 or less now and going into black Friday. Hell there are games from this year that are pretty damn good for 30 bucks. Some of them GOTY contenders.

Jesus, what don't you guy's understand about games that are not in print? So how much should Nintendo fan's pay for games that released last year or in 2013? Are those Nintendo fan's only buying the bundle just for those games? Or maybe just maybe, people want to go back and play the great backlog of games, not just ones released this year?

Maybe people want to pick up pikmin 3, 3D WORLD, Bayonetta 2, W101, Hyrule warriors, Monster Hunter 3, Super Mario Bros U. Those games are all mostly out of print in retail stores. ANd to get them you have to buy them either preowned, or digital, and the prices are too high for games that are from 2013, 2014. ANd if you buy them digital you need an external so there's more expense.

Anyone who is a pretty avid Nintendo fan already has the system. Selling it during black friday should be for people who might be interested in the system period. IT'S LIKE there's a premium for this just being Nintendo?

ANd to me when the competition is selling for less, and making games from backlog cheap, it really doesn't equate to a good deal.

Scorned hearts, Nintendo has done :( by many

What does this have to do with the PS4 and Xbox One? Who are you talking to?

This is the bundle we're picking up as our second Wii U, so my wife and I can play Splatoon together. We both have over 150 hours each in it, so it's a fine investment.

Anyone who perceives value.

Maybe you didn't do any research? I posted the prices of those games and they are high and not in print anymore at the moment. So that's my whole point, if you want to play those your options are used, or over priced digital.

I might grab this deal if I find it Black Friday, my son wants Splatoon, ive just kept pushing it off because we have the Xbox One and not sure if a 2nd console is needed but those are definitely two games we would have fun with, just wish it was $199.

If I do this do I need a wii remote or will the pro controller work with both of these games for two player? (also thinking Mario Kart and Mario 3d)

That's pretty easy to explain. Yearly franchises and hype cycle. By the time the next AC, COD, FIFA or the next OMG, YES, GIMME, GIMME, HYPE, PREORDER NOW game are close to release the old AC, COD, FIFA and the old OMG, YES, GIMME, GIMME, HYPE, PREORDER NOW game get a much lower price because otherwise they wouldn't sell.

The best games on Wii U are generally exclusives and one game per console gen type, so they hold their value much better.
