Wii U Deluxe Digital Promotion details

Great program they got here, but there are DEFINITELY eshop games I'll want on day 1 and I won't be able to use these points toward the games until 12/1.

oh well

I will hope you can get promotion points if you buy Wiiware/VC games from your WiiU

i'm assuming? it says if you buy them from a Wii it doesnt count, but i'm holding off on a bunch of VC (few wiiware too, mostly konami classics series) purchases just for this. where does it say/imply those wouldnt apply?

Please let the Virtual Console survive intact from Wii.

Please.

wait, why wouldnt it? ya'll getting me worried for nothing

awesome to hear credit is transferrable to the 3DS eshop as well.

the deluxe bundle really is a tremendous value. with enough digital purchases you'll easily save the $50 more it costs over the standard system, and then some.

Does anyone know what third-party titles will be available Digital Day 1? I've been looking all over the place for a list to no avail.

Don't be playin'. Lol. Seriously, people put all their games on like a 1TB HDD and that shit crashes. You'll spend weeks redownloading that shit.

Uh... I mean... the chance of your 1TB HDD dying isn't any greater than for the HDDs inside any PC or other console. :\

At least the Wii U has 32 GB of onboard flash that will definitely be safe.

I can't recall but how long is the Deluxe Set being offered in its current incarnation? If say one was to wait until 2013, would the Deluxe Set still be offered with the Deluxe Digital Promotion? I thought this version of the Deluxe Set might be only offered up until December 31st, but perhaps what I thought I had read was describing some other time-limited offer. Oh well, I'd like to get the Deluxe Set but I'd like to hold off for now so I suppose if I ultimately miss out on the digital promotion then so be it.

I think the only one announced so far is Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Who knows. Years, maybe? They haven't said anything about it only being available for a limited time. I guess they'll just phase it out when they eventually make another bundle, like they did with the original Wii & Wii Sports bundle.

the problem is that Nintendo seem intent on having digital download prices = highstreet prices... where we know highstreet prices are going to be a bit more fluid (?)

I don't understand why this is a) only for deluxe owners or b) why they don't just drop the prices of online downloads by 10% across the board.

Or is this a basic "even we don't care about the cheap model" nod?

They have to keep retailers happy too.

You want to buy your way into a discount program that gives you 10% in-store credit back? This isn't exactly Amazon Prime. You want to give Nintendo $20 or something for this?

Fairly certain they'll have to negotiate all the licenses with third parties they have. I think the best case scenario is unfortunately the Wii U and 3DS share the exact same set of VC games. :(

I guess this is good for people that don't mind paying full price for digital releases with no ability to trade in the games. I prefer Sony's method of lowering the price of the digital version straight off the bat.

I'm so glad I finally secured a Deluxe Set (and at 10% off to boot).

I had my heart set on white, but my mind is all over the value the extra $50 gets me.

One upside to this is you'll always get that extra 10% even if the price drops later. With Sony, most of the time the PSN price will just stick even after the retail drops and you'll end up with a huge disparity. This way, in theory, if the eShop prices drop alongside retail, you'll always get that extra 10%.

I'd argue that a 10% discount doesn't make up for the ability to trade the games in. Or price match to get the game for $40, etc.

I'd argue that both of these options stink. I'll always take the ability to dump a game I'm done with off on someone else over saving a measly 5 bucks. But if I had to choose which digital method I prefer, it's the one that gives me money off the game I'm buying right now. Not credit towards some future purchase that I may or may not be interested in.

crap...i swear if they take off Zombies ate my Neighbors before i buy it ima be salty!

I could see myself downloading alot so I dont have to swap disks. Its especially handy when playing on the gamepad you have all your games right there.

This was a big draw for me as far as a day 1 purchase. I download a ton of $10-15 titles. Over two years, they're gonna be giving me a lot of "free" Nintenbucks. Beyond that, I'm not even sure how someone could look at the two options available and ignore the value of the Deluxe edition. Unless you're very serious about white consoles of course.

YAY for NNID!! I think the 3DS will eventually move to it apparently, at least for eShop purchases?!

But this doesn't do that. Providing points which you build up for discounts keeps you in the Eshop

A flat discount on purchases is the same effective price to the consumer, but they are free to buy the next game at retail
Yes, but people still have the option to buy digital games from stores, and stores can offer still more incentives 'in addition' to the 10% price cut people will get either way.

It's just that in a certain situation that someone has saved like $60 in his eShop account and decides to buy a retail game through eShop that it won't be in the advantage of retailers. But I guess a lot of people will use their small 10% savings for small games that wouldn't be in the retail stores most probably.

For me, I'm still going to be buying boxed when it comes to retail games, but this offer will still benefit me due to all the eShop games that you can't get elsewhere - Toki Tori 2, Trine 2, Little Inferno, Chasing Aurora.......

Retailers can sell eShop games through card codes as well. So in this way, retailers still sell a game and you still get 10% off. It's not perfect because eventually that 10% builds up to one game but retailers can still make a profit from eShop purchases through selling codes.

Havent really been keeping up, but will all Wii U games be available for DD or is it just Nintendo published ones?

It's up to the publisher. All Nintendo games will be day one digital and every third-party is allowed to do the same if they want, but they can decline as well.

Tekken Tag was confirmed for DD already, possibly day-and-date with retail. Nothing announced from others just yet, so it's up in the air who's all on board. I'd think a 3rd-party wouldn't want to exclude themselves from a revenue source that their competitors and Nintendo are in.

Only thing that nags me about this is that the credit isn't directly applied to the account, you're given codes instead. Probably a workaround until 3DS goes to account-based purchases.

Show me where any NOA/NCL guy has ever confirmed an "account based system" (aka log into an account from multiple devices) anywhere.

GAFfers have been quoting this maxim for ages, but there has never been any confirmation of it... unless a single line in a customer service e-mail from months ago is "confirmation" now.

No formal or informal reference to Xbox Live/PSN/Apple-style accounts has ever been made, and I fully expect the Wii U to be similar to the 3DS as far as transferal of software goes.

(Note: I'm not saying it's impossible the Wii U will have a universal account allowing access to your titles on any system, nor that a unified account between the 3DS and Wii U won't happen either. I'm just saying there has yet to be any reason to assume that there will be, and no statement/hint/etc. of that, either. "Nintendo Network" ID doesn't mean you can use titles on more than one system...)

Nintendo has been talking about an account based system for Nintendo Network since the day they announced it.

And they confirmed we'll be able to access (obviously using your NN account) Miiverse from a mobile app (possibly web browser too). The app won't be available from day 1, though.

Again, show me any reference made by anyone at Nintendo connecting the words "account" and "download your software on any device." The assumption I keep seeing is that we'll be able to log into a Nintendo Network account on any Wii U and download all all software -- and nothing backs up that notion whatsoever.

Accessing the Miiverse and/or your Friend List is not the same as being able to download your software on any device you log into.

"User Account" does not necessarily imply universal access to software. People keep assuming that it does. If it did, I think Nintendo would have made sure folks were aware of that by now.

Have fun managing your fridge on nintendo systems !

It's gonna be a clusterfuck, I can already see game file corruption slow load times over USB and in general slow downloads, no preloading. It's gonna be a glorious learning curve for nintendo.

I keep telling myself that I won't go digital because it takes away the option of trading in or selling my games, then I look at the giant stack of 360 games sitting under my TV that haven't been touched in months. I hate trading in games.
I hate my 360

Almost brings a tear to my eye just thinking about the first time thousands of credit card numbers are stolen from the Nintendo Network. They grow up so fast :'-)

1) Why should we assume slow load time over USB?
2) Why should we assume game file corruption?
3) Why should we assume slow downloads?

I'm not saying any of these aren't possible -- I'm just questioning what you are deriving these notions from. Is there some inherent reason for file corruption, or slow USB access, or slow downloads?
