Wii U HOMEBREW Discussion Thread [exploits/apps/games/stuff]

I was all hyped for the n64 injected games....

...and then the compatibility list killed it all.

I was expecting everything to work flawless once you inject it (i know, im lazy and expexting a magical solution). It seems only a few games even work - and all of them full of issues

Who knows, as more stuff gets blown open and more people have access maybe we'll get more stuff working.

Also, I can't get the home menu/Mii Maker way to work. I always power down as well.
Small price for the early days.

The DS screen borders are a bit too tiny and the focus on one screen makes the other a bit too tiny. That's a big bummer for tv less VC.

Wonder if one could remove the DS border and make each screen say DSi size.

Tried editing the screen sizes and placement in the config file? I managed to get them side by side on the gamepad with no issues.

Just tried Ghost Trick and Phantom Hourglass in double res. Ghost Trick has broken graphics and is unplayable. Phantom Hourglass looks nice but has flickering and corruptions sometimes. I suppose this won't really be usable for most games.

How do you give these DS games the proper icons and box art in Loadiine?

Ah! Could you point out what line I should be looking to edit? Awesome stuff!

Rich you are a god

Played around with a few more DS games, and I mentioned that the Wii U would crash occasionally after trying to exit a game and boot another via Mii Maker (stuck on Wii U loading screen).

Didn't think about it yesterday, but after messing around with ten different DS games it's only the ones I've modified the json file for 2x rendering that crash.

It doesn't crash every time, but only the ones I've edited are crashing-- unaltered games open and close with no issues.

Obviously this could just be a coincidence, but it's pretty consistent on my system.

I'm having the exact same experience, 2x rendering games always cause a crash when exiting to the menu.

To be honest I'm not seeing much success with editing games to run 2x anyway, apart from Suikoden Tierkreis (which works perfectly and looks amazing at 2x render) most of the others get terrible graphical glitches.

This never works for me. Exiting to the Wii U menu sits on a white screen with Wii U in the bottom right corner. And sits there. And sits there...

Turning off and on is what I have to do.
Yup, same thing. And to add to that, I have to power off both gamepad and the console individually. And then I get that boot up message about how I didn't power down properly. lol

Well now that I know a correlation between 2x DS and crashing occurs, does every cafe file match each rom, or are they all the same? I might just go back to 1x for now.

I wonder if you can inject Wii games into the Wii U versions of Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Maybe I'll give that a shot?

Point me to where you said its specifically for running the Kexploit with command line, i can't see it...

Just for running the Kexploit, you don't need the command line...

Woah, dude. You're getting extremely defensive over a very trivial matter. Having the command line when you're running the exploit gives you a log of everything that connects to the exploit's server, so it's useful to diagnose any problem you may be having.

But, there you go. I edited my message to remove such toxic information.

It's gonna be excellent when someone gets that working with Wii homebrew, since the wrapper used for eShop Wii games supports gamepad controls. Inject Nintendont (or somehow load the Wii system menu) and then we can play any Gamecube game with the gamepad controller.

I felt you were defensive with your first reply, saying you "specifically" said so, while it wasn't the case and then ending the sentence with 3 dots. I just replied in the same manner as you chose to reply to me.

Sure its good to use the command line the first time you set up the exploit, but after its working correctly there really isn't a point in having one more popup window.

But anyway don't want to nitpick more, thanks for correcting your original post.

What screen setting do you guys prefer for DS games? Right now I'm playing with top screen on TV and bottom on the gamepad but with games like Phantom Hourglass, I'm staring at the gamepad most of the time. I guess I'll have to just try a few of them to see what feels right.

It really, really depends on the game. Like I was playing Sonic Rush, and that functions poorly no matter the setup. Both on one is too small, and one screen each makes it hard to keep track of Sonic.

I wonder if homebrew on Wii U would be able to eventually make it so you can run the Wii mode on a PAL console in progressive. The fact that it's only 480i is why I still only use my original wii to play Wii games.

Wii mode is progressive, but I believe only through HDMI. Somewhere in a Digital Foundry they talked about it around launch.

Dumping GBA games is easy. Same as dumping anything else on the Wii U.

However, I'm not understanding how to inject a GBA Rom.

In the /content/ folder I see a big file called alldata.bin. This is the only file where the GBA ROM could be but due to the file size it is way to big to just have the gba rom inside it. Perhaps it has the emulator?

So how do I inject a GBA Rom to replace the dumped one?

Is the .bin file similar to an .iso file in the sense that you can open it to see the contents within?

Sad to hear about the DS glitches.

I'm gonna wait for homebrew to improve before I try it.

Just an update on my DS glitch - I said earlier in the thread that Elite Beat Agents had graphical glitches, but that was with 2x scaling on. I turned that off, and now it's fine.

That would be my guess, but how does one do that? :)
Well I'm speaking (hypothetically) way above my knowledge but I would try something like simply renaming it to an .iso or .zip/.rar to see if you can explore it that way. I'm guessing it won't work but that's what I've done in the past with other files that contain more content within.

edit: or ignore me and listen to Rich instead - that's the safe bet. :P

With this python app!

It's easy. Just follow the instructions in -h

https://github.com/ajd4096/inject_gba

And it works with Goomba Color. Which means game boy games, complete with super game boy support, work on the Wii U now too.

Doing this from command prompt.. [trying to extract]

inject_gba_cli --inpsb c:/wiiu/vol/golden sun/content/alldata.psb.m --outrom c:/wiiu/vol/golden sun/content/

I get: 'inject_gba_cli' is not recognized as an intenral or external command, operable program or batch file

2x scaling has been the main culprit for any issues for me. The only games with graphical issues or crashes when closing out my games are the ones with the 2x scaling activated. Everything else I can swap between games easily by going back to mii maker.

Hot damn is this emulator perfect. My entire collection works so nicely. Was playing Chrono Trigger DS, Order of Ecclessia, Phantasy Star 0, DQ stuff...so many good games. They really look good on my HDTV as well depending on how I set up the screens and toggling smoothing via right analog clicked in (some games look nicer pixely..some nicer smoothed).

Most excited I've been for an emu in years!

Do you have python 3.5 installed to path?

Also, ignore the instructions they're borked. You want the file called inject_gba.py

I just installed Python 3 and have no idea what the hell I'm doing. I don't understand why people release shit and give zero instructions.

I wasn't referring to you not giving instructions, but I still don't know what to do.

The instructions are in the app. Use the -h command.

And remember, this is inject_GBA.py not the other one.

I don't have instructions to hand now but it's like allbin.PSB.m infile game.ROM outfile allbin2.PSB.m

I tried injecting GBA games and quickly gave up, as I understand for >8mo games you need to connect your Wii U with your PC, launch TCPgecko or something then a GBA game, then Smash bros, inject your GBA game, return to the one you launched on Wii U, reset and done.
This was highly confusing so I'll just wait for a better method.

Not tried the alternative method?

Are there any instructions on an idiot-proof method for SNES games? Also, would it be alright if I use a 4GB SD card for this process, or do I need to go bigger?

how do I even open the damn app

I'm a total noob, how would you go about dumping your DS games?

Or I guess what I'm wondering is how I get my DS game's ROM since that's what you need to inject correct? Like if I have say Metroid Prime Hunters as a DS catridge what would I need to rip it?

If you don't know how to use a command line, that's the issue.

I typed out detailed instructions for everyone to understand for dumping/injecting DS Roms. Can you at least to give out some kind of instructions? I can type out detailed instructions for this if I can understand what to do. Being vague isn't helping and is causing more back / forth than what is needed.

KingWool had posted this handy guide on the procedure, so follow it step-by-step. It was surprisingly simple to follow.

I just need to know how to do the same with SNES & GBA games, or if there is a different process to do that.

Would you mind typing out something for N64 ROMs? I've dumped Mario Party 2 and I replaced the ROM with another but none of them work. I renamed the ROM to the name that the dumped Mario Party 2 ROM had and put the whole thing in a folder with a [ABCDEF] code but, when I load the game on the Wii U, nothing happens.

This is what I'm also trying to figure out so that I can make an easy guide for everyone.
