Wii U or a PS4/Xbone for a 7 year old?

Get them whatever you think they'll like.

If he already enjoys Minecraft on the tablet... why bother getting him any console? Show him some games on youtube, and see which games he prefers or just pick something for him.

I'm amazed that a thread like this managed to turn into a console pissing contest.

The sales of a console does not mean that the console is bad for a 7 year old, the games should count and there are mor kids friendly games on the Nintendo Wii U than the PS4 in my opinion ;)

The fact that a console supposedly great for 7 year olds is selling so horribly is actually a good sign that it might not be a good console for the modern 7 year old. Otherwise they'd be demanding one. Any parent of a child that young knows how vocal they are when they want something. They don't want Nintendo.

As someone else said, kids don't have nostalgia glasses. They see Nintendo for what they really are, not what they were. My daughter and her friends don't care at all about Nintendo like I used to. The lack of Minecraft definitely plays a role.

Yes. I agree with these points.

I never said WiiU is a bad console. But I'm saying it now. It's a bit shit to to honest. Woefully underpowered considering the time it came out and with a low resolution single touch screen controller with a woeful battery life.

There's a handful of first party titles that are pure gold but if your not into the colourful cartoony graphics then there isn't a lot else and it has almost zero third party support. So in all honestly. I could not recommend this console to anyone.

I'm actually surprised that Nintendo are still developing for it considering how hard it tanked.

Just show your kid a video montage of the games on all three systems and ask them which one they liked the look of most.

What's with the nostalgia goggles argument? The Wii U is the first Nintendo console I've ever owned and I'm really enjoying it. Big surprise but everyone is different.

In my opinion with a headline like this "PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 PS4 Xbone PS4 PS4" you really make yourself look like a PlayStation Fanboy who is not objective enough when it comes to decide between a Nintendo or Sony console. But this is only my opinion!

You're really new here, ain't you?

And it's shit opinion not based on any sort of fact.

To counter this, I would recommend a Wii U to anyone that likes playing good video games.

WiiU has minecraft knock-offs (or at least on the way) which i think would be good enough for him. The console has a touchscreen interface, which suits young children better i think (not just in the game, but for apps such as netflix or youtube).

On top of that, there is Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pikmin, Captain Toad, Super Mario, Lego City, Nintendoland, Splatoon (on the way), Kirby (on the way), Yoshi's Wooly World (on the way)... So the lack of third party, does it matter? What high quality 3rd party games will you find on the other consoles that are so suitable for children?

No. He should listen to his kid.

I hope to god you don't have any kids yet.

Tags aren't self applied. The mods and admins do that at random, frequently ironically.

try listening more and being less "opinionated."

Just wait til he/she asks for a new one? No doubt their friends will have a big part in what one they want rather you just second-guessing it. Til then the 360 and iPad Minecraft isnt that bad!

Oh, and if its for a 7yo, I'd probably go with the cheapest option if you MUST get them a console. (Why not a handheld? Vita has MC on it, or 3DS for the library.)

I wouldn't spend more than 350$ on a 7yo who may or may not play the console much or at all. I'd, honestly, from what I did over the holidays, recommend the 8GB WiiU's if you can find any still left in the wild since those were 200$, or go with 7th Gen or a great deal on the X1 if it must be current gen.

Ask him what he wants. Show him video footage of some of the more kid friendly games on each system and let him decide which one he prefers. It's a real shame that the Wii U doesn't have Minecraft. Nintendo really dropped the ball on that one. Hard.

Heh, and you are?

I do not support Sony because of their business practices. I can't mention all their bad practices now but their latest is how they treat the PlayStation Vita and their PlayStation Vita customers. First they act like the PlayStation Vita is a AAA blockbuster game machine and now we can be happy when we get indie games (which is not meant in a bad way) and even Sony does not care about the PlayStation Vita anymore!

If you already have all three ask your kid which one he likes the most and get that one.

Though if you already have all of them this sounds like a real first world problem.

My kid of 6 plays mostly on the Wii and Wii U. We sometimes play on the ps3 too but not that much. He prefers mario, smash and other games.

Personally we don't allow him to play violent games or games that are not suited for him so the Wii and Wii U are the most logical choices.

Do you remember being a kid? do you remember getting shitty knockoffs of the thing you ACTUALLY asked for? Do you remember how much that sucked?

I hope to god you don't have any kids yet.

Pot, meet kettle.

Maybe it's just me but when I was a kid I wasn't brand conscious or snobby. As long as it was good I enjoyed it.

Well yes, but that's not what the OP is asking at all.

Yes, there are kid friendly games on other consoles besides the Wii U, Minecraft for starters.

Ps4 has a boatload of indie games appropriate for just about all ages. the argument is a complete nonstarter.

i think "no man's sky" is going to be a surprise hit across all age groups, personally.

Some of the Nintendo first party titles are fantastic if you like Nintendo games and that colourful cartoony presentation.

I love my Wii U and honestly think it´s the only worthwhile console if you have a PC....

but kids are playing COD and Minecraft. You won´t get that on Wii U.

What Nintendo really is:

So if your Kids want a game for 18 years old gamers you would buy it for them? I don't think so ;)

Some day when you're an actual parent, you'll understand how dumb your post is. You don't simply stop listening to your kids because they may want something inappropriate for them. Because guess what? Kids want what they can't have. That will never change. Doesn't mean you stop listening to them.

I hope to god you don't have any kids yet.

I do. Your problem is with me saying you should listen to what your kid wants?

Kids aren't stupid, contrary to popular belief. They know the difference between the real deal and a janky knock-off. You sound like the type of parent who would buy your children Kre-O or Mega Blocks instead of LEGO. :P

Why do you have to qualify it like that?

"This pizza is good if you like pizza"

"I mean, I guess this sex is okay if you like having sex."

They are just very well-made fun games.

If you really would buy your 7 year old son a game which is for 18 years old gamers than you are a horrible father in my opinion!

ok you need some kind of tag for this

TheDarkTriforce
people should be judged by the content of their tag
not the content of their character

Get her Minecraft on your phone/tablet. Meanwhile if she's still into princesses, if she likes playing with female characters, if you are intending to play with her in coop games, there are many great games in all kinds of genre to consider for a 7 years old girl on Wii U.

Whichever of the X1 or PS4 that you can find for cheaper. All you need is Minecraft.

Then again the X1 is more likely to get new Minecraft things with it being owned by MS and all, so you might want to consider that.

Basically Minecraft > everything.

Should we listen to yours, "Junior Member"?

Anti-Junior elitism is really silly, whether or not you agree with his opinion or misunderstanding or someone else's tag. (yes, yes, I was a junior then a member and am a junior again, but I still felt this way as a member)

Speaking from experience, all sex and pizza are not created equally.

A lot of differing opinions here. Ultimately it boils down to what games the 7 year old enjoys. I have a 7 year old brother who only plays Minecraft, a 12 year old sister who only plays Persona and visual novel games and a 19 year old Nintendo and Hearthstone fan.

Get the system with the game they wanna play the most.
