Wii U owners, is the Pro controller worth buying?

But how's the build quality specifically? Is it grippy or really slippery?

Super solid. No squeaking if you grip it hard. It's matte underneath so just like the GamePad it's a nice surface to hold on to, and the glossy top (and side) provide extra grip to your palms. Also, IMO best ergonomic shape of any controller, largely because of two things; the open space underneath (for your middle finger) and the symmetrical analog sticks.

Terrific controller. Second only to the DS4. Having said that, I don't use mine all that much since I do most of my Wii U gaming in bed on the Gamepad.

The DS4 is my least favorite controller of all of the systems I own. I wish I could play the ps4 with the pro controller

No. I bought one and like it but fucking Mario made me use the gamepad on maybe 3 levels so it became pointless. If you could play games 100% with it then yes it would be, but then there are so few games for the WiiU, why waste resources buying an accessory for it?

I have the Pro-Pad & for games especially DKC-TF, it is far better than the Screen-Pad, the only thing i do recommend though is to get some stick-grips, because the tops of the sticks are convex & not that grippy at all.

This is how mine looks.

Well worth investing in some imo.
Which ones did you get?

OT sidenote: Can someone recommend me similar for 3DS? My thumb is always slipping when I play that.

Man, that thing is shiny. Is it a fingerprint magnet?

Yes it is, the same as the WiiU itself, the Screen-pad is a fingerprint magnet, but it's very easy to clean off, basically because it's so shiny.

You probably should use a screen cleaner cloth to wipe it off before taking beauty shots :P but it uses the same plastic as the GamePad. Very easy to keep clean.

I did give it a quick clean before i took the photo :P

yes, it's amazing, and it works fantastic on a PC
With an adapter I've heard that it works fine, but I've tried using a Bluetooth setup with no avail. How'd you do it?

Also OP, I recommend the Pro Controller. You could do a 3 day long stream on Twitch and not have the controller die on you. And it's quite comfortable.

Yes, yes, MOTHER F'N YES!

If sold as an "accessory" the GamePad would have been pretty darn neat, however, the Pro Controller is probably my favorite Nintendo controller yet and should have been the primary controller.

It's heaven in your hands and even works pretty good on PC games as well, if you're into that sort of thing. It's worked wonderfully for Tropical Freeze and 3D World for me and I'm sure it will be great for smash brothers and bayo 2 as well. For games like Zelda U and Mario Kart though, I'm not sure I'd be willing to trade off some slightly increased discomfort (I still find the gamepad surprisingly easy to hold and play with), for the loss of inventory management or race map information on the screen.

Saw a generic one on ebay with free shipping without the WiiU name on it ..

Anyone have this one ?
Is it good ?

I am thinking of using these to make Mario Kart 4 player on pro controllers

Yep, bought a pro controller for myself late last year, haven't used the game pad for anything but netflix and miiverse posts since. As someone else said, it's absolutely perfect for Donkey Kong; I can't really imagine playing the game with anything else now, and I generally like the game pad. It's gotten to the point where I get annoyed if a game doesn't have pro controller support, or in the case of Sonic I outright won't buy it

WWHD is still the best with game pad though

Very, very good controller. Even though I got it last year, Donkey Kong was the first game that I only played with the Pro controller exclusively. Fantastic battery life, I can't remember the last time I charged it.

I only wish that the Wii Mode had support of the Pro controller

Yes, OP, the Pro U pad is indeed awesome, but remember it can only be used on the Wii U. If you were to buy a Wiimote+ and nunchuk here for $20:

http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wc...atalogId=10001&storeId=10001&categoryId=70706

Then grab a classic controller pro from any where for another $20, you'll be able to use these in the Wii hardware side as well, and all cheaper than the ProU. And like the ProU, they can be used on PC via bluetooth.

Its a classic controller in Pro controller shell beware.

I got a white one "used" on eBay for like $23. It was basically brand new and it's a GREAT controller. It's basically the 360 controller but lighter, with a good d pad, and insane battery life.

Also white doesn't show fingerprints.

Where did you buy those stick grips? I've been looking for some here in the US.

I use the Pro controller for everything. GamePad gets propped up on my coffee table, if I bother to pull it out at all. Pro controller all the way.

Also, +1 on a link to those analog grips!

Great controller, love it. Long battery, good feel, near perfect button placement.

That mayflash adapter works on OS X as well. I couple it with Enjoy 2, works like a charm.

Highly recommended.

Oh and it works on PS3 mostly with that mayflash. Have not tested many games but it does get recognized.

Yes, amazon and best buy are selling the pro for $40

Dude, thanks for the heads up on that. I just ordered mine from Amazon last Monday for about $6 more, so I contacted them and they're refunding the difference.

More on topic, I haven't had mine too long, but I like it. It's very light and comfortable to use.

I find the GanePad fine even though I have a Pro Controller but if you need the battery life, go for it. So long as you get it cheap (got mine new for about US$7 equivalent in a Wii U firesale)

Are there any good prices for it? I was searching for a refurbished one on Nintendos site (they had a wii+ and nunchuck for only $20! steal!) but couldn't find one and a lot of the cheaper ones are knockoffs that are really hard to tell.

I bought mine for the upcoming smash!! Having the control sticks in the top corners is something that you will have to get use to though.
The gamecube controller is still the best (wavebird especially).

Really solid controller.

My main personal issue is I like the gamepad and it's features so on a regular basis another controller for me personally isn't really needed.

The controller itself is well put together and lasts a really long time though.

It's up to you whether you'll get use out of it. Also depends on what you can snag the controller for. $50 new could get you a game instead. If you can find it on a deal or really would use it everyday I'd say go for it though!

The Pro Controler uses the same battery as the 3ds, that's why it last for so long. It's pretty good, too bad my 3ds battery broke and I had to remove the one on my Pro Controler. Now I need a new one

Yes IMO.

I find it much more comfortable than the gamepad. I tend to use it when playing on tv and just use the gamepad for off tv play.

It's one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever used and any Wii U game that supports it I always prefer it over the gamepad. The only games I don't use it for are the ones that require the gamepad, which are very few, like 1-2 of the 8 I own.

Can't recommend it enough.

Definitely. It very comfortable and has an amazing battery life. Using it to play DKC Tropical Freeze was a far better experience than playing DKC Returns with Wiimote/Nunchuk, plus the battery was still at 4 bars when I beat it.

Doesn't this allow you to use it on PS3? I might get it just for that.
It does but you'll need to update the driver inside the Mayflash adapter which you can only get by emailing Mayflash themselves.
(The instructions they provide in the email are shit so let me just break it down for you just for reference:
1. Hold SYNC BUTTON then plug USB adapter into PC (to start device in UPDATE MODE);
2. Run PS3 UPDATE.)

The only problem I have with the adapter PS3 wise is that some PS3 games just don't like USB devices so they strangely turn off the L2 & R2 triggers (so far happened to me with Bayonetta demo and After Burner Climax (full game)). You can alleviate the problem by booting the game with the DS3 though and then plugging in and switching over to the Wii U Pro pad.
