Wii U production officially DEAD

I am genuinely concerned for all of my Virtual Console titles I've purchased on my Wii-U. Nintendo hasn't said a lick about this as we move into the Switch generation, have they?

I can only hope this doesn't imply Zelda will be difficult to find for the system.

Godspeed you tiny, crazy, poorly sold console.

Just ordered a white refurb yesterday, right before the news officially came out. Great timing and I got tired of the black color anyways. Still a lot of games to be played on the system.

This will be a very rare and expensive collectors item. Sell them at your peril.

Some classics may never leave the system.

Imagine something as rare as the virtual boy but with amazing multi-year library.

The Dreamcast sold less and they are available cheap. A console needs to be a VirtualBoy level flop or only available in Japan before it will become a valuable collector's item.

The Nintendo exclusives are so polished, unique, and fun. Nothing on PS4 or Xbox or PC even can compare in terms of quality, gameplay, and fun factor (in my opinion).

I'm sorry but that excuse doesn't work anymore, Sony's 1st party teams create just as polished, unique and fun games as Nintendo does.

If you want to preserve the Gamepads life please charge it and remove the battery pack. The Gamepad can't be turned off and constantly drains the battery which could kill it for being in a critical low-power state.

Didn't know this and am interested in preserving my GamePad. Can anyone confirm or elaborate?

I would agree with you but Sony's 1st parties have been killing it in terms of critical and financial success.

Nintendo's games tend to be great but it's a shame they continue to be stuck behind their ultra conservative and lacking hardware. People want their software but not so much the hardware barrier to play them.

RIP Wii U. No one will really miss you because most people thought you were still the Wii.

I bought it because I liked the Wii and I was gullible enough to expect betterment after its horrid reveal and launch year. Unfortunately it only turned out to be my worst vg related purchase ever made. It was a drought machine with many of Nintendo's most uninspired and lazy titles to date. It's the first console to turn prejudices like "zero 3rd party games" or "Nintendo's only rehashing ideas" into a harsh reality. It completely turned me off being the company's fan within a single generation. In theory it should have been impossible to make something this bad after having dominated the market with 2 devices only a few years earlier. I don't know what happened, but looking at the Switch, they apparently haven't sorted it out yet.

WiiU was an amazing system. Unfortunately internal Nintendo politics lead to brand confusion. Even with that it featured what I would call some of Nintendo's best work. Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 are arguably the best installments in their respective series. Splatoon and Mario Maker showcased the systems strengths.
To many people got hung up on the game pad as the majority of games could be played with the Pro Controller(easily my favorite controller so far). Topping out at around 200+ games in the US, some with really low print runs will cause the many titles to get to Sega Saturn levels of cost/rarity in a few years.

The past few months I've been picking up titles to round out my library. I have about 20 titles left to go until I have what I feel is worth having.

Current titles selling for more than they should are:
Wiiu Sports (low print run)
Mario and Sonic at Rio (recalled)

That's because they aren't linked to your account, they are linked to the unit, you're not holding onto those games for the Switch, there is a reason they haven't said anything, they'll expect you to buy them again.

Goodbye, $230+ system I bought for 2 games.

Now, how do I go about selling this and erasing my account info...

No it won't. There is nothing exotic about the WiiU. replacement lcds can be installed, and there are enough machines out there to get replacement parts.

Im sure it will not,its fucking Zelda even if they want to sell the Switch version too they wouldn't dare release both at the same time if they didn't had expectations for the Wii U

And they won't be getting my money for a Switch either. Voting with my wallet.

lol

DC has a line-up 10x better than Wii U....

Yeah, it's such a ridiculous comparison. DC probably had more new IPs than WiiU had remarkable games in general, lol. DC also had some of the most ambitious titles of its time, while Nintendo rehashed 2D platformers and minigames ad nauseum.

People who wanted to play video games.

Not the people who want to buy more than 3 games each year though.

I've been tossing out the "big boxes" like the Mario Party, Amiibo Festival, and Twilight Princess ones. Hopefully I don't regret that someday.

I've got about a half-dozen titles left to pick up to round out my collection but I should be done by the time the Switch launches. Here's the document I've been using for tracking.

The big bummer is that I haven't been able to play my Wii U since September of last year when I moved. Its still packed up and I don't want to put it out until we get our furniture in.

Loved the gamepad and off TV play. Great set of exclusives as well. There are certainly flaws, such as gamepad battery life and third party support (though indie support was solid and carried over to the switch).

Overall, it's a transition console that led to the Switch (with a "gamepad" that you can take everywhere and is less bulky and has better battery life) that appealed to Nintendo fans alone and had very little mainstream appeal. But it will be remembered fondly than it was during its short lifespan and it will become valuable to collector's I think (more or less value depends on how many games get ported such as Tropical Freeze, 3D World, Smash, Xenoblade, etc.).

Terrible system. Bought day one kept it for 6 months than sold it. Super Mario was fun like always but zombi u which I bought the system for was so bad. That game pad was the worst thing on wiiu. Switch looks promising tho.
Nintendo just need to release all the wii u games to switch and we can forget about that garbage

That's a bizarre opinion to have when Bloodborne nails everything about being a fantastic video game and Gravity Rush 2 has the most unique and best traversal mechanics in gaming.

They are linked to the Nintendo Account of course!
It depend on what Nintendo decide to do but there is no mistake they know exactly what a user bought from WiiU/3DS eshop (and even Wii).

Just bought a used Wii U gamepad for the cheapest I'll probably find it. A white one at that, which are harder to find. Glad I've got a useable Wii U now, because the prices can only get worse here on out. Now I just need to finish my library before I can call it a day.

Clearly you're done with Nintendo then, so why keep posting in Nintendo threads? If you didn't actually care somewhat, you wouldn't be doing what you so famously do.

Stay classy man.

The Wii U may be a failure in the charts... but not in my heart. It has Super Mario Maker. It has served me well and will continue to serve me well.
No, that hussy of a 3DS version won't replace my waifu.

I really need to pick up one of those extended batteries and stash it away for future use. No problems with my gamepad right now but rechargeable batteries only last so long.

My favorite console this gen, I just love everything about it. It was just too beautiful and weird for this world :')

This. Loved the Gamepad and the games that utilized it good (Nintendoland, The Wonderful 101, ZombiU, Rayman Legends, etc.), free online, 2 player co op with each person using their own screen (one on TV, the other Gamepad), TV button to use the Gamepad as a remote, Miiverse to share snapshots and interact with fellow players of the games you play, Off TV play, Wiimote support, Wii mode with optional Off TV Gamepad use (the Gamepad has a built in sensor bar so you can use the Wiimotes with it!)

Two of my gripes with the system is the restriction of transferring saves via SD card to another system (its tied to the console AFAIK), and things like system settings and certain games needing the Gamepad to function even though no specific Gamepad features being used...that's an unecessary restriction that shuts out other controllers from being used for these

I feel the positives outweigh the negatives, and the system overall has provided me and my friends many good times...one of my favorite systems of all time...so here's to the Wii U, RIP

I just wish the game pad had a longer range. I couldn't even leave the room and play. That was a huge letdown for me. I guess that won't be an issue with the Switch

To be fair, as great a Bloodborne is as a game, it certainly doesn't have the universal "fun factor" that many Nintendo games do. Particularly those that are family friendly and can be played by "casuals" just as well.

Gravity Rush has enjoyable mechanics, but I found I didn't enjoy the game as much as the mechanics themselves. For the record I played it on the Vita at launch and haven't played the PS4 version (yet).

Poorly conceived console.

But damn, the exclusives are something else.

I've had more fun with it than my ps4.

Well, ofcourse you're going to have more fun with the console with a whole generation full of games as opposed to the one whose just started...

Easily the worst console to ever launch especially in the wake of wii.

Had fun with a few games and indies but it won't be missed.
