I experienced no such lag playing SMW....

Me neither. I remember hearing people say they thought there was lag in Punch-Out, too, and I never saw it. I have SMW on an SNES cart downstairs, along w/ Punch-Out for NES. The gameplay going from my downstairs originals to my upstairs emulated was, for all intents and purposes, virtually identical.

I think their mistake is pricing all the games based on console.

Ice Climber is not worth the same price as Super Mario Bros. It's foolish for Nintendo to price them the same. Make the throwaway NES games 99 cents a piece and watch them sell like crazy. $5? Not so much.

But Nintendo is stubborn. They're not changing that anytime soon.

If Nintendo's games were the only ones that were going to be part of this service, this is a fair and reasonable suggestion.

But 3rd-parties are involved, so fair and reasonable are pulled off the table fairly quickly when we remember what they think about competing with Nintendo's content, not a stretch to suggest that those feelings would extend to the back catalog. Their surprising lack of presence even in the early days of Wii VC when it was at its highest mindshare is telling.

It also requires making decisions about what value some content has over another. That rarely turns out well for anyone.

What Nintendo needs to do is allow you to filter Miiverse communities based on keywords and alphabetical order. Right now everything is a mess.

But what happens once there are, say, 200 Virtual Console games to download?

Since Miiverse is most-accessed from within the games themselves and it auto-loads the appropriate community when you load Miiverse from the game, the largest use case scenario is covered. As for every other use case? Who knows.

That's if you transfer your Wii version over.

Seriously, I'm bummed that Nintendo charges this much for such an old game. It doesn't help that iOS games have changed the perception of pricing.

It's sure changed the perception of pricing, alright. Here's what Final Fantasy would look like if it was released as your typical $2 iOS title:

And if you gave Square Enix enough rope with the VC, they'd probably hang themselves with it exactly like that.

ugh I don't want to transfer my shit from my Wii and lose GC compatibility

why you gotta make this so difficult Nintendo

i think I'll pass on Mario World. Already own it 4 times...
Does the transfer brick your Wii somehow?

Where's my 3rd party titles?

Perhaps you should ask 3rd-parties.

Also why is Japan getting Mega Man 3 first instead of 1 or 2? It feels...weird.

It's my understanding that Japan largely views 3 as the superior title in the series from a gameplay standpoint.

I'm wondering how they could get around having no analog triggers.

Classic Controller required.

I went into the eShop today forgetting what the lineup was exactly and was once again aghast at how utterly terrible the lineup is.

How could someone forget a lineup like THAT?! LOL

So exactly what options did Nintendo incorporate into the Wii U virtual console games that contributed to the six month wait from the Wii U launch?

I dunno, maybe ask Nintendo why it took 6 months, cuz we're sure as shit not gonna know until SOMEONE bothers to.

Why would anybody whine if Nintendo "ran out" of games?

Post-2008 Wii owners absolutely did when the releases dried up completely. Unless you liked NeoGeo games.

How much is a super Mario world cartridge again? Remind me.

Apparently $144 brand-new, $13 used.

Boot into game for the first time, start up first level, proceed to get killed by first enemy. :(

You're also 20 years older than you were when you first played it and probably about 4-5 years older since the last time you fired it up on your Wii if you bought it then. Perhaps you're not as quick on the draw as you used to be?

I experienced not playing SMW.

Thanks Obama Australia.

10/10, will ROFL again. :)

The upgrade prices don't really make sense when they got the full price conversion right; $8/£5.49 if buying for the first time, but if you're upgrading it's $1.50/£1.49, should really have been 99p (I guess we knew that already though).

Sooo just to confirm I can buy virtual games in the Wii virtual shop and transfer them over ?

You can transfer all the Virtual Console games on Wii and transfer them to a Wii U where you will have to play them in Wii mode.

To get a native Wii U version, you need to wait for Nintendo to put one up and then pay a fee to upgrade.

Finally, Europe can join, too! I wonder when exactly they were finally available.

Do they? I used $ because I was typing from a tablet and was lazy finding the euro symbol.
PAL PSN stores have most of the PS1 5€
They changed the standard price point from $5 to $6 a while ago.
The PAL price is 5€, but to be fair in exchange you (mostly) get the shitty PAL versions everyone was complaining about on the VC. And a lot of the bigger titles (e.g. the FF games) are 10€.
Japanese FF games were 1,500 yen as far as I remember.

Once you transfer titles from your Wii to your WiiU, they're deleted from your Wii. You can't play them on that console anymore - only the WiiU.

Except the post I quoted was talking about GameCube games. For him not to be able to play them, the transfer would have needed to brick his Wii.

I'm pretty sure he meant using his GC controller. You can't use a Wavebird on WiiU. You can on Wii.

At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Btw. the notification message about the VC also mentions Pac Man, Super Metroid, the Mega Man series, the Super Mario Bros. series and the Street Fighter series as "coming soon".

Mario Super Picross is the Japanese version on the EU eShop and SMW is the American version.

Bought SMW. I hope they release Illusion of Time and Terranigma too.

I'd be excited about Pac-Man if it was a arcade port w/ speedup hack. But it's almost always some shitty console port that doesn't play right.

However, the Mega Man series? I'm all for that. Finding loose carts out in the wild for Mega Man is getting REALLY tough anymore.

Still hurts

Yeap bought it on Wii launch, shitty NES port, the same is on 3DS VC

I'd buy Street Fighter again. I wonder if they'll release World Warrior first again, like horrible people.

Looking forward to playing Mario World again, it's been too long.

Hopefully they get Final Fantasy II & III (IV & VI, whatever) up there soon.

Does it tell you it's the US version of SMW?

Yes, on the software description page below the screenshots it says it's the American version.

Also just beat the first castle and didn't see any stuttering someone mentioned earlier and no input lag. It plays fantastic, also I died at the first enemy, but that's like tradition for me, I died at the first enemy in NSMBU too. :(

$10.49 Aussie for Super Mario World.

Still kind of wish we didn't get boned with pricing but it's a lot more reasonable than some of the PSN price differences.

I could understand for GameCube games, but VC content? I love the GC controller, but it's blatantly worst feature is its tiny thumb-lacerating d-pad. (I'm not exaggerating, that thing broke the skin on my thumb on frequent occasion)

Yeah. Besides N64 games, I don't see how anyone would want to use a Gamecube controller for VC.
