Wii U Virtual Console - News and Releases

Ah, so that was you. You sure did seem happy to ignore all the previous evidence we had for how Nintendo was going to handle the Virtual Console going forward. If anything the "drip drip" strategy is only getting worse.

Feel free to quote some of my ad hominem attacks against you. My memory needs a reminder of how cruel I was.

I never ignored the presence of evidence, I questioned its relevance as a means to definitively predict an outcome, especially when you were using historic precedent only when it suited you.

And since you asked so nicely:

Throw out every excuse you want, there are plenty of obvious reasons why someone would expect an exact repeat with the Wii U virtual console release schedule. You can keep on talking, but don't think for a moment I'm not gonna make a point of bringing this up for you once again when they finally "officially" launch the Wii U virtual console. Of course I fully expect you to dodge, weave, and re-write the conversation once that happens

This was after you edited something out, but the intent is still very clear.

God, it's been so long since I last played SMW. Hard to believe, but my nostalgia is getting a bit of a rude awakening. I mean, I'm still loving the hell out of it, but it really demonstrates just how damn good NSMBU is.

Thanks for that link. I kind of forgot the fervent nature of your arguments in that thread. It was something to watch.

I have no idea how you could come away from that lengthy exchange and the first thing you brought up now was something about me "attacking" you. Playing the victim after having your irrational arguments completely blown up.

Except you stopped actually addressing the "irrational" arguments presented and went for an assumed judgment of my character to shut down the conversation, which is the textbook definition of an ad hominem attack. And continue to make such assumptions here. I remember it solely because I don't appreciate the method and see it as a means to remember how to approach a poster in the future. Like I did in that situation by walking away.
So now that you've had a chance to get in another petty dig, why not just leave it be so the thread isn't derailed, hmm?

Alright Euro guys, this latest trailer has revealed a few of the games you're getting soon. A comprehensive list:

Xevious
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA)
Super Mario Bros. 3
Street Fighter II
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Another damn Street Fighter II game
Solomon's Key
Pac-Man
Mega Man
Super Ghouls'n Ghosts
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Donkey Kong
Super Metroid

Edit: I saw your guys' list above, but figured that this was a full list, so I might as well post it.
So when do these games come out,and how will they be doing the trickling? 2 games a week? 2 games a month?

Sure growing tired of Nintendo releasing NES games over, and over, and over, and over...

You could always not buy them. That seems to be a rather simple solution. And if you weren't going to anyways, it doesn't affect you in any way, shape or form. It's not like VC is diverting huge amounts of resources that could be used on new projects from inside Nintendo, that much is abundantly clear.

But then it might send a message to Nintendo that people don't like the VC. I know I'm going extreme, but still. I think a MiiVerse campaign and complaining in Club Nintendo surveys could help.

Isn't that kind of the point of the post I quoted, though? That he doesn't like VC? How can you be tired of something on one hand and like it in another?

I don't see that at all. He said re-releasing NES games, nothing about VC as a whole. Some of us just want to play Nintendo's back catalog (not just NES with a trickle of SNES) on the awesome new controller they made. If you can't get that I don't know what else to tell you.

The number of repetitions of "over" in his sentence seems a tad excessive then for such a specific (and relatively recent) complaint and seemed more aimed at Nintendo leaning on their NES back catalog over the course of several generations. My fault for not properly interpreting an over-exaggeration, I suppose, if that's the case.

And my point still stands. Don't like it, play it in Wii Mode, you're not having your arm twisted.

Man I wish SNES games were 5 bucks and 2.50 for nes. I don't know if I should pick up LTTP and Mario world. On one hand I love those games on the other I don't really like how VC is handled.

No it doesn't, because if you read carefully

That is literally impossible in Wii mode.

Then you're making a choice as a consumer of what's more valuable to you. If you don't like that you have to pay, then don't. If you're fine with it, pay it. It's either a good value to you or it's not, and you still have the actual content either way. "Shit or get off the pot" comes to mind.

So does this:

Although Gamepad support is a bit more than a "new hat", the comparison still stands.

Just came here to see if anyone posted the new trailer. While the situation is by no means ideal, it's better than the near 'worst case scenario' that seemed to by unfolding before.

Also, concerning prices I think it would be best if Nintendo unilaterally take off 20% of the standard rate for VC games (with imports, like Earthbound, at a higher price). Although I'm one of the people who has never understood the anger some people have towards VC pricing, I think they are a little high considering the marginal cost is literally nothing. Then again, Zelda ALttP for £5.49 or whatever is pretty good, especially considering how expensive cartridges are these days: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_o...R2.TRC0&_nkw=a+link+to+the+past+snes&_sacat=0

EDIT: Just checked the eshop and realised that import/Hanabi festival VC games are no longer sold at a 'premium' price. Mario Picross is £5.49, same as the likes of Super Mario World. Why hasn't this got more attention? To me, at least, it seems like a semi-big deal.

I want this right here.
Pay more for imports like Earthbound.
Lower some prices on the Virtual Console.
Let me import my Wii games to the WiiU VC nao.

After that, I give zero fucks.

I'm guessing the import price only counts for new import games that weren't on the Wii VC [Super Mario Bros. 2 (Lost Levels) was the standard price also]. Since Mario's Super Picross was already released before, it doesn't count anymore.

On an off note, I'm going to have a blast watching my little sister play through some of my favorite VC games for the first time.

It started a while back on 3DS, with Ninja Gaiden and Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels sporting the standard price.

Kinda off topic, should we expect the DKC games to appear on WiiU VC ever?

Good question.

It would be great if they timed their release with Donkey Kong Country Returns, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up for that considering they've been removed from the original Virtual Console.

This does make me wonder if Nintendo may be planning to localize some of their older games to release them in the West as VC Imports. It's not like this is completely unprecedented, as SEGA localized Monster World IV exclusively for Wii VC release last year.

Of course I'm not holding my breath for this to actually happen, but I guess with Nintendo you never know.

For me it's a question of value for the money, and even competition between Nintendo and 3rd Parties. Using American prices, I could see there being a range of prices between $3-$5, with $5 belonging to the most classic of the classics (Zelda, Mario, etc). But asking to pay the same price for Mario 3 as Balloon Fighter is unreasonable.

A better example might be the NES port of PacMan for $5, when Championship Edition DX is out there for other platforms for $10 and arcade ports are available on the iPhone for (I think) $2.99 or less. There's just not that much value for the dollar, or much nostalgia tied up to the NES port to warrant the $5 premium. For $3, some might give it a go. But for $5, there's probably a lot of equally priced titles that will get their buying dollars first. In the end, the effort Namco goes through to put it out probably isn't worth it, because they're forced to follow the flat $5 fee.

I've been thinking of getting Mario 64, the actual cart, recently and decided I would just give it a try on the Wii VC. Nintendo is asking for $10. $10 for an emulated ROM of Mario 64. I could buy the DS remake for less, and the actual N64 cart for the same price. The difference is that some dude at a swap meet is getting my money instead of Nintendo. Why doesn't Nintendo want my money? I am not paying $10 for a single digital emulated N64 game that I do not "own" and will become unplayable when my Wii stops working.

You could also get it for 200 Club Nintendo coins for another week or so

Upon what logical base are you arguing that an N64 game is not worth ten dollars? How exactly are you ascribing value to it? You seem to equate "emulated" to "not worth anything." Did you used to download Nintendo roms on your PC? Does the value in a game somehow evaporate because it is old? You seem to want to play it, why is that desire worth less than ten piddling dollars, and the desire for a newer game is worth more? Where can you buy a new copy of Mario 64 DS for less than ten dollars?

My Wii stopped working, and after sending it in to get fixed, six and a half years of save data had to be wiped. It was pretty fucked up. And yet, the techs affixed my eshop account to the repaired Wii, so I retained ownership of all my games. Then I transferred my licenses to my Wii U. You "own" these games just fine. If the system bricks, you can get them back no problem.

It seems the US will, too, get Pac-man and Mega Man as the Wii U VC releases this Thursday.

Not bad, but I'm not ofgoing to pay $5 for a lesser version Pac Man, and I already own Mega Man 1 on my 3DS and won't rebuy it (hoping for cross play...)

Still, 2 releases a week and parity with Europe (except for Picross... fucking PICROSS) seems like a good sign, especially with the good upcoming lineup for Europe. Gamepad Link to the Past will be mine soon, hopefully. :)

I'd rather it be faster, or at least every so often they just dump a bunch on at once. Waiting to get, say, the FFs on again will be murder.

Might pick up Mega Man. How does it hold up when compared to 2 and 3? Those are the only ones I've played of the "original" games.

The original Mega Man is not nearly as good as 2 or 3 but is still a good game. I think it's a more challenging game than either of those. It's not as long and the music overall isn't as good as 2 or 3. I'd say it's still worth playing.
