Wii U Virtual Console - News and Releases

Woah, nine codes? I'm guessing you went all digital with the Wii U, because I've only just got my first code.

More or less. I have several Wii U retail games, such as NSMBU, ZombiU, Just Dance 4, Sonic All-Star Racing, Lego City Undercover, Resident Evil Revelations, as well as a good bit of VC and eShop content. so adds up quickly. lol

Check your points there. I have so far gotten 9 different eshop codes. This program has really come in handy.

cool, I got $5 :)

only gotta pay $3 for the next VC game I want. Possibly MMX or wait till something else gets announced.

all those games and no Monster Hunter? For shame.

VC Discount
If you have already bought a VC game before on the Wii, you will get a discount. NES games will instead cost $1.00 and SNES games will cost $1.50.
To achieve this new price, you must have already done a Wii to Wii U VC transfer.
Once done, the eShop will actively show you the new price as well as the words "Discount" shown in the listing as well, even before you go to buy it again.

Will Wii VC saves carry over?
No. Saves do not make it over. You will be starting from scratch.

I was bummed by this too. I went through and 100%ed every single Zelda game last summer, and now all those saves will be trapped forever in Wii mode :(

I kind of dislike Wii mode in general, really. I wish all the backwards compatibility stuff wasn't so closed off from the rest of the system. The 3DS handles it much better, you can play a game from the menu like normal (the fact that selecting the disc in the Wii U menu boots up the entire Wii OS instead of the game itself is so dumb), and everything's tracked by the Activity Log and stuff. I don't know why they didn't handle it the same way on the Wii U.

I can agree to an extent on that. It peeves me that the Wii U Menu is designed to have the Wii Menu and disc apps do the exact same thing with a Wii game disc inserted instead of the disc app loading straight into the Wii game. It's very redundant having it this way.

I liked the sale this week. I'd already bought Ghosts N' Goblins on the Wii VC, so $1 to upgrade and I get Mega Man X for $4 instead of $8.

Plus that money game from the Deluxe e-shop promotion. Good times!

Do we know what next week's VC games are yet?

For America or Europe? Not yet, other than that Spelunker is coming to NA next week after getting delayed from this week.

We already know that Japan is getting Super Mario Bros. and Punch-Out next week.

Weird. The last couple weeks we knew in advance. In the coming soon section does it just show spelunker?

Believe it or not, Spelunker is nowhere to be found in the eShop at all, even if you search for it.

The main if not only reason why we know Spelunker is coming to NA next week is that the game's official page says so, and that's the same place that originally said it was going to release this week.

I recognize that this doesn't appear normal. I remember previously having known of next week's games for NA about exactly a week in advance, and I think we're overdue for an update, assuming Spelunker isn't the only game. On the other hand, Europe only got Ghosts'n Goblins this week if I'm not mistaken...

at the lineup or $uper Mario world?

His response is to the original OP. I've since been updating it since then as more VC games are added. Back then it was revealed the 8 VC games at launch, 4 or so of which were already offered during the $0.30 sales. Even the Wii VC launch was bigger. Anyways, that is what he was referring to.

Spelunker (NES, Tozai Games, €4.99 / £3.49)

Seems Europe is only getting one NES game this week. North America is also likely to get this game as well. Though I wonder if we might get more in North America. Either way, seems like a slow week for once.

Edit: Seems like it's on sale for €3.49 / £2.39

Well, I won't complain. It's been a good last 3 weeks for the VC. Hopefully Nintendo will have a little something for us at their Nintendo Direct.

By the way, this thread title doesn't seem adequate, should it be renamed to just the Wii U Virtual Console thread or should we make a new thread?

I honestly could not fathom paying for these titles when they charge that much. 7.99 for F-Zero? Are you fucking kidding me! Emulator thanks. I mean if they had nice pricing maybe but that is going too far. Are there sales for these games?

Nintendo.com has Spelunker dated for tomorrow, so looks like that'll be the only VC game tomorrow. Wonder if they'll make that part of the weekly deal. Also, next week is Yoshi for 30 cents (though I have it on 3DS due to the ambassador).

While there are certain games that could carry a week by themselves

Chrono Trigger
Earth Bound
Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island

Spelunker is not one of them

Seriously? Only Spelunker? I guess that gives me another week to finish Super Metroid and Mega Man X.

And forget Yoshi. It shoulda been Tetris Attack!

No VC deal this week, according to Nintendo's press site. Just Spelunker and then Yoshi for 30 cents on the 12th.

Kind of off-topic but does anyone know if you make a second NNID on a premium Wii U, is that account also eligible to sign up for the Nintendo Network Premium?

Did you miss the 30 cent deal?

Kind of a kick in the balls; guess now I know what my European fellas felt like these past weeks. Would have been a good chance to make deals with past games; Get Megaman for NES and get X for half the price, something with the launch-line up, etc...

I don't know about Europe, but this was done (more or less) last week with Mega Man X. (obviously Europe didn't get MMX, so no deal)

Can't really complain about this weeks lackluster VC offerings, because I still have a few of the past releases to get through. The fact that it seems to be slowing everywhere else, including Japan, is kind disheartening though. Hopefully it's just a short lived lull and doesn't become the norm.

Also, is anyone else concerned about the Donkey Kong Country situation? Did we ever get any kind of explaination as to why they were removed from the Wii Shop? I'd really like to know whether or not we should expect Wii U versions of these games. It'd be sad if something prevented them from being released again. Seriously some of the best games in the SNES library.
